  1. Doesn't the article say, "Van Veen, now 31, is out of contract at the end of next season" though?
  2. I'd only give him a hard time for his haircut.
  3. Was it Slatts? Fairy Nuff. Thought KVV pointed at Spittal giving him credit for the pass but who cares? What a finish!
  4. Our defence was so deep it took an age before the lads caught up with KVV to congratulate him. Nice touch to see the lovely Sellick stewards get off their lardy arses to stand in his presence. Great pick-out from Spittal to unleash The Phenomenon. Could watch this on a loop all day.
  5. Not wishing to contradict SK but KVV is a very good example of a player with an ego in the most positive sense: great self-confidence, which many Dutch players have naturally. His goal today stemmed from a long clearance out right which might have ended up as just a corner for most attackers at best but look how he finished. Great credit to the manager for setting up in the best formation for our limited resources. The players seem to believe in him and a result like today can only bolster this.
  6. Great draw given the results at St Mirren and Tan Your Dice. I should listen to my cough mixture more often.
  7. I’ve tried expunging that memory but it’s still there: one of the lowest points I can recall supporting MFC, made worse by the fact that Pettigrew was fouled in the Rangers penalty box by Greig just a few minutes before Johnston’s dying swan act near the 18 yard box. And then the hailstorm came to make it worse. And let’s not forget their 20 minute pitch invasion in the 3-5 game a few seasons later either. Bitter, Moi? Just a wee tate…..
  8. I hear the lovely Hugh Keevins thinks it’ll be 4-0 by HT today. I can’t remember him saying anything positive about us in his long, goggle-eyed career.
  9. Hilarious: for some reason I ended up in the old enclosure for that night game (the only other time was a Texaco Cup-tie with Notts County) and laughed my Gove off at the defensive meltdown that evening. Oh dearie, dearie me 😂!
  10. Perhaps, but you can only play the team in front of you. We'd had a pretty shocking record at Celtic Park until the mid-70s, if my memory is correct, and so going there to see us win was brilliant. I wasn't thinking of the 80/90s. Those five-goal thriller games were in the mid-70s. I think our wins at CP began under the managership of Ian St John and continued for a few seasons. I haven't checked the records in 'Well Again but I think that's correct.
  11. From memory Ian Taylor scored from a free kick in that game. Loved Willie P's winner as he dragged Roddie MacDonald and Fat Pat McCluskey around the final third before neatly finishing in the far corner. IIRC Kenny D ballooned a great chance over the bar at the Taggart's End in the dying minutes: a wee shame for him soanitwuz. All particularly sweet since at half time I had had to endure the patronising "You're a good wee team really" patter from two Sellick fans in clerical garb in the main stand who had miraculously disappeared by the final whistle. We also in that period beat Celtic a good few times at Celtic Park, including the famous 2-3 "Chance of a lifetime for Pettigrew!" match (still avaiable on YT). "And it is THERE!"
  12. Looking back after all these years, the two jaw-dropping goals are Dougie's header and, of course, Colin's Exocet. I was just about to say to my pal beside me, "He's not going to hit it from there , is he?" when the ball arrowed high into the net: a stunning goal in any era. Loved the way Kirkie almost forced the Celtic players to shake at the end. McStay's face is a picture 😱.
  13. You should get your marching orders for that. My cough mixture tells me that we will get an unexpected point on Saturday.
  14. Re Alexander: thought the same thing. Thanks, Graham 😱. Having read some of the panicky commenters on SoL since the DU game, imagine if they were Arsenal fans tonight. Meltdown madness!
  15. Yes: I can think of Higdon and Moult immediately. Having said that, if KVV got a big payday somewhere at this stage in his career then it wouldn't really matter if his new club's investment wasn't really worth it in the end. Having played for clubs like Scunthorpe and Northampton you couldn't really begrudge a 31-y-o a golden sunset before retirement. Having said that, let's hope he stays and leads us to a cup victory next season 😀.
  16. Indeed: I blame it on the roundabouts.
  17. For so many seasons we haven't expected much from a direct free kick and now we have Goss, KVV and Slatts. I'm presuming our new manager must have had an input to this turnaround.
  18. Sorry, in my world "Ah-hoo, etc" equates to "Ah'm aff ma heid" and I require swift medical attention.
  19. Adding to that, our great away victory at Easter Road, an articulate manager and team on the up, and an expectant, 3 o'clock crowd at FP tomorrow........... Oh God! I'm off to YouTube to watch one of those vids about blocking intrusive/negative thoughts. Ah-hoo! Werewolves of London!
  20. Nice of Big Kev to inquire after Marshall's health.........
  21. Great to hear most of Texas is claret and amber, TWF 😂.
  22. 'Well Again says the scorer was (Andy) Walker
  23. Yes, I'm thinking the same. And I pay tribute to your scintillating alliteration skills.
