Must win today and as long as we get enough support to KVV I think we will. Thankfully County don’t have a striker anywhere near the level of Nisbet!

Expecting to see Cornelius & Shields out, McKinstry and Crankshaw in, with Spital playing in midfield.

You realise it’s nailed on that White will score.

So we now have 3 players signed with 1 more definitely in the pipeline and possibly more on the way. Lets park the negativity for 24 hours and get behind the team for 90 mins. We need to win. Any which way we can. Lets do this.

Yes it’s got to be 100% support then it’s down to the players, they need to stop talking the talk and start walking the walk.

Premiership pedantry in operation are you weeyin in disguise? 😀

Sadly my teen years were spent watching York propping the division up applying for re-election from it. Miserably times football wise going to night games in January with 1200 other people.

Not sure what the financial situation is at York notwithstanding the similar  level of crowds as ourselves. Question that occurs to me is.... What level of wages are York paying those two players in the hope of promotion? I would guess the players  are on a decent wages at their parent clubs and York will likely be taking on a fair % of that total. Sadly, perhaps that is something we are not in a position to match.

Not that long ago Salford, then National League or lower were able to outbid SPL sides like Aberdeen. Similarly Wrexham the past few seasons. Not saying York have a rich benefactor but finances might be the issue that limits us.

The York chairman has stated they are cheap options with the two of them costing less than one player signed from a second division club at the start of the season, cheap is of course relative. York is 49% percent fan owned and the chairman does not bankroll them, they are not Wrexham. The National league is full of clubs big and small loaning young hungry championship and premiership players looking to move from playing in reserve and academy football to full time mens football. What they have is a manager who was coaching and recruiting under Pochettino at Spurs and at Leeds, he appears to have lots of contacts and a knowledge of young exiting  players who have developed over the last 10 years or so, in that there is an advantage.

Genuine question but what do you think we should be doing? And from what leagues and teams do you think we should be looking to sign from?

Can I use an example and mention York city yet again, playing at National league level. Shaqai Forde has just come in on a season long loan from Watford, four goals in one and a half games, will probably end up playing in the Premiership. Olli Tanner a winger from Cardiff, came on for them against Leeds last week again on a season long loan, turned down a move to Spurs, young and highly rated. York’s average attendance is around 5k this season, why can’t Motherwell look to players like this ?

I know there will be those who will have a go at me for this post but I couldn’t care.

If Stevie Hammell seriously thinks our situation will be improved by players like this, even on loan, then I’m afraid we will be playing in the Championship next season!

Two wingers. Really! We’ve already got one on loan - James McKinstry.

No disrespect to these two guys, but one by his own admission can’t get a start in a team that plays in what is really the old English 3rd division and the other is a 21-year old rookie with only 7 games under his belt.

    Utterly bewildering!!

Actually the old English fourth division.

I will of course give him a chance but signing a player on loan from a conference side doesn't inspire me....brings back memories of Tony Straker on loan from York.

Hopefully we can sign a player called Stan and announce Stan and Ollie as our new acquisitions!!   Mmmmm mmmm

York were looking to sign two Stockport forwards on loan before the manager was sacked, I’m pretty sure he would be one of the two given his experience at nation league level. Pretty much in line with the level of player we’ve brought in over the last few years. Likes to take a player on but more an impact sub for them.

With Hammell under the spotlight and being scrutinised, I thought it only fair that some of the other key figures at the club see the same discussion.

So, Nick Daws. Appointed head of recruitment on June 11th 2021, he was brought in the season after Alexander replaced Robinson, replacing Martin Foyle.

It's obvious that Daws was Alexander's guy, having worked with him previously.

Let's look at the transfer business we've done since he came in:

    • Justin Amaluzor
    • Kaiyne Woolery
    • Kevin van Veen
    • Liam Kelly
    • Darragh O'Connor
    • Mich'el Parker
    • Callum Slattery
    • Juhani Ojala
    • Sean Goss
    • Sondre Johansen
    • Ross Tierney
    • Jordan Roberts (Initial loan from Hearts, then permanent signing)
    • Victor Nirennold
    • Joseph Efford
    • Robbie Mahon
    • Liam Shaw (Loan from Celtic)
    • Blair Spittal
    • Paul McGinn
    • Josh Morris
    • Aston Oxborough
    • Shane Blaney
    • Stuart McKinstry (Loan from Leeds)
    • Matt Penney (Loan from Ipswich)
    • Rolando Aarons (Loan from Huddersfield)
    • Louis Moult (Loan from Burton)

One thing I would point out is that Amaluzor, Woolery, Van Veen and Kelly all arrived within a month of Daws taking the job, so how much we can consider them to be his signings I'm not sure, but it's worth considering that those players were most likely identified if not already being spoken to by the time Daws came in.

Anyway, that's his transfer incomings thus far.

Folye was more successful in my view.

Shields should be sent out on loan for rest of this season, and then sold ASAP. We need to cut our losses. He's 18 months into a 3-year deal and offers nothing.

Blaney should get a chance in defence as Lamie is shit. Not sure about Penney in midfield, mainly as he looks like his head is back in Ipswich. I'd throw caution to the wind and blood the youth, who surely can't be any worse than the dross we currently field.

I honestly would keep him, he’s under contract and will do well in the championship.

For me, out of that starting 11 only Kelly, Goss and Van Veen are worth keeping.  A rag man wouldn’t give you a balloon for the rest!

If we go down it’s major changes anyway. The wage bill will be dropped by some margin, every high earner will be leaving if the club can get rid. Kelly and Van Veen will be away. Strangly the likes of Shields will probably do well at championship level.

Penney was left with two players to mark. Lamie was marking Nesbet then left him alone by going towards the Hibs player with two Motherwell defenders beside him - Lamie to blame not Penney.

As Lamie moved forward he clearly told Penny to watch Nesbit, Penny was way too slow to react.

I don’t believe we did have alternatives to Aaron’s and particularly moult and the fact we had to rely on managers own contacts at that stage highlights to me that our head of recruitment is under performing

our last head of recruitment was well lauded by Robinson/McGhee/baraclough and looking back martin foyle identified a number of players who did well for us

how many have we had under Dawes? In fact how many have we signed since foyle left that are actually worth mentioning?

I thought Foyle did pretty well in truth given the pot he had to pick from.

  13. I honestly don’t see a change of tact from the club regarding recruitment. Everything will still be within budget, no major loosening of the purse strings, league of Ireland, lower league down south, better championship level in Scotland  to carry on being the norm. I know it’s not want people want to here but it’s been that way for years and the club have made it very plain they won’t go overspending again. So for me as stated before as well as maybe two or three fairly predictable level signings the main thing is improving what we already have before it’s too late.
