Bloody hell that game was embarrassing as is hammells interview

Highlights how far we are behind top epl teams and their reserves.

This was a friendly but I'd imagine any Well player of any substance would have looked upon it as a game v a top English team and seen it as an opportunity.

Alas our players were too scared to go near them.

I watched from 30 mins on and watched their midfielder Skipp rattle 3 of ours but we never committed 1 foul between 30 and 65 mins.

We think they are a different breed and are scared to tackle them incase they complain.

Scunnered with that today and some will come on and say we can't compete with them which is their right I just don't get lack of application.

Rab Shannon jamie Dolan Jim Griffin Dougie arnott etc all average scottish journeymen would not have accepted that today .

Felt like this after sligo and honestly struggling seeing any positives in our team before next week.

The league and players down south are a million miles away from the Scottish Premiership.

Cornelius should in my opinion start every week on the basis he has attributes that the other midfielders don’t have - he has energy , pace , can tackle and looks to play forward where possible - I think he is 21. The only other youngster to come through of late is macguire and he is the opposite of Cornelius.

My point is that with Hammell in charge of the academy no other 20/19/18/17 year olds have really at any game time other than the lad who came on at st mirren at start of the season and then disappeared. Each of these squads is at least 20 strong so thats circa 40 players possibly more who hammell signed/coached as part of his academy role and none are ready. He has put Ferie , Miller and Ross on the bench a few times and not used much/at all.

He sold us on youth and a team trying to play football for us to be proud of. In 4 months I’ve yet to see that other than a small spell of games around united/hearts at home. It’s a lack of progress and lack of ideas on change that’s alarming me. Some players are going backwards as well - Slatterly , Lambie for example.

Yea it’s better than Alexander but honesty as of yet not by far. The league table and quality of what we are watching shows that.

Massive January window ahead for him and his chums on the board.

The football on the whole may be but the win percentage is certainly not and that’s the thing that depends where we finish this season. We’ve had a run of tough games but that’s not the case after the break and regardless of the entertainment level that’s the stat that needs to change. There needs to be an understanding of why some players are going backwards, why we look so disorganised, he’s been hit by injuries for sure but with a fully fit squad there is not going to be the same excuses. He can’t go on forever stating “it’s disappointing” in just about every post match interview.

If we consistently can't bring in the right type of players during the summer I wouldn't get your hopes up for the winter window.

It's getting harder and harder to bring in good quality players .  You've got the impression it's been a real struggle going back over several managers now and Hammell probably has fewer contacts in the game.

And that’s why it comes back to improving those we already have, we’re not going to bring in half a dozen quality players.

  4. Good point on paper of course but also one win in the last eight, things need to improve dramatically after the break if we don’t want to hit that bottom two. Hopefully we can get everyone fit and Hammell manages to sign two or three players that can strengthen the squad but of course everyone else will be looking to do the same thing.

Can’t believe SH has picked the Three Stoogies again they let him down every week and after Spittals performance on Wednesday night he should be nowhere near the team

Yes I’m pretty surprised we’ve not seen a change in midfield with all three very much out of form.

A strange fixture in the context of the season, given our injuries, poor run of results and the impending break. It almost has the feeling of a free hit.  If we win, then great result. If we lose, disappointment but the hard work that is required during the break and leading up to the January window  remains and three points, one way or another, are not going to change that.

Having said that, a win would  be most welcome from a short term moral point of view, both for the players and fans, so COYW!

I see this as a really big game, team moral but also every three points against teams at our level are now crucial. Everyone is assuming we’re going to have a really good transfer window but there are no guarantees.

This is why our academy is so important. Alan Campbell is the quality of player we can't afford to bring in. Even more so for a Turnbull. To lose both of them in a relatively short period of time was always going to be a huge hole to fill.

We pretty quickly went from bringing through Scott, Turnbull, Hastie, and already having Campbell and things looking very rosy to losing them all.

I agree that the midfield of Slattery, who couldn't pass water at the moment and Goss, who couldn't tackle anything, are not what's required. We need tacklers  and chasers in there.

Unfortunately I think we need to go back to long ball shite against this mob,  if we try and play out, they will close us down at every opportunity.

It’s not that they can’t do a job, it’s the fact they have both gone backwards. Slattery was the best midfielder we had at one point and Goss was getting better and better, they both now look a shadow of their former selves.

A tad harsh and perhapsn impetuous Greg, but yes you do have a point, and a valid one at that.  At what stage, or date, do fans stop blaming Alexander for absolutely everything, including today's tactics, and accept that Hammy is maybe at least 1% responsible? We're making the same mistakes and have the same weaknesses game after game. The fact that he is a very popular former player shouldn't cloud folks' judgement.  I've stopped listening to his post match interviews as they're tedious and all the same. As for today, why did we sit back at 2-2 and let Hearts come at us?  Losing 3 goals to a ten man team just isn't acceptable and  serious questions need to be asked.

The squad does have serious weaknesses especially in central defence, centre midfield and up front. However its the lack of leadership and character that worries many.  Something is not right. Having said that, we do have some decent players who just aren't performing and who have gone backwards - Kelly, Slattery and VV for example. I'm not saying its all Hammy's fault but.....

We are stretched for bodies but we do have alternatives in midfield and I'm not sure he's getting the best out of what we have. The personnel and formation with a lone striker just doesn't seem right and it isn't working.

You sum it up perfectly for me mate, I get that people are protective because of who the manager is but we’re now a few weeks down the line and if anything we’re actually getting worse. I just don’t believe he is getting the best out of what he has available and we’re still making the same basic mistakes. Tracking back, workrate, basic organisation, putting in a tackle, confidence levels seem to have dropped, the players don’t appear to be responding to our manager the way I would have expected. Thank god for the three points last week but even that was a huge struggle against 10 men. You are correct in stating there are no leaders and that’s not his fault but I’m genuinely worried in a way I never have been in the past that we could actually be relegated if we allow things to carry on sliding.

Don't think we were/are anywhere near as bad as people making us out to be. We weren't particularly good today, but it wasn't quite the bombscare I'm reading. We were far FAR better with Moult and KVV through the middle with McKinstry drifting about in behind them, I'd like to see us continue with that. I'd also like to see us not let an opposition player run 30/40/50 yards with the ball resulting in a goal for the other team.

I had initially said we would make the top six this season, but unless we can beat teams like Aberdeen/Hibs/Hearts once in a while it's unfortunately going to be beyond us. Not a chance we'll be in a relegation fight but unfortunately I can't see a top six finish any more.

Really pleased to see Moult coming on after the chat of him seeing specialists/he might be done. He looks rusty as fuck but the movement/threat is there. Hopefully he can use the world cup to build up his fitness and we can get something from him for the rest of the season.

IF we can get him fit he would be the difference between the struggle it is now and a comfortable position but again as above we need to start getting the basics right with the other players, and it is the basics.

Players signing PCAs and engineering a way to get the move in January, or just leaving for better money = bad, horrible, evil, Judas

Clubs tearing up contracts and offloading players fans don't like = good, getting rid of the deadwood

Players letting clubs renege on contracts and not getting the money they're legally due = fantasy land

When players are "let go" during a contract, it invariably means they were paid to go, and I sincerely doubt that anyone in their right mind leaves money on the table, especially in a short career like football.

Of course this is the case, it’s a two way thing. I also find it quite strange when supporters believe you can just offload players while still under contract with no penalty. You’re not suddenly paying out less in wages simply because you have to pay them off.  Now of course if they ask to leave to join another club that’s a different matter. Maybe there is another Premiership club wanting to sign Shields on the same or better wages and he’s willing to move but I would not put money on it.

  12. I can’t criticise his work ethic, always puts a shift in but by now I would have expected him to have pushed on and that’s not really happened in truth, maybe  just a level too high. I had high hopes of D Johnstone when he joined us, again neat and tidy and put a shift in but just a level too high. He’s now flying down south scoring goals for fun but at his natural level.

That is exactly why there's as much debate yabba. Loads don't know the rules.

I'm a big believer in if refs came out and explained any big decision in a game or even the head of referees came out after game and explained why certain decisions were given then it would clear a lot up.

Pundits quite clearly don't know rules and it creates untold problems for referees in their next games.

I’m surprised the pundits don’t understand that play continues at times, it’s worked like that down south for ages, maybe they only watch Scottish football,
