We took advantage of the rule being different for cross border transfers, as both coke and porter would have commanded a fee if they moved to an English club. I see the Cadden situation as similar in that clubs worked something out to their favour within the existing system.

It would have been genius if we did the same. Seem to remembering us shafting an English team when we signed Chris Porter, and I’m sure a few more. We’ve had some good fortune on the transfer front recently (Heneghan, Kipre, Moult, Johnson), but this time we’ve lost out. Our development of Cadden wasn’t wasted, we got 100 games out of him. That’s a pretty decent return on investment.

Good for him, well deserved, but based on the reaction of the twitter-sphere I don’t think many people read the actual story.

Campbell signs improved deal https://www.motherwellfc.co.uk/2019/07/23/allan-campbell-signs-improved-deal/ Doesn’t look like an extension though, pretty sure he was already under contract until 2021.

    2019-20 League Cup

That Morton keeper is woeful, very Samson-esque with his refusal to catch a ball. Their left back should have been sent off twice, some absolutely wild tackles. Hylton has a really good game, the ball seemed to stick to him out on the left flank and that was a great finish for his goal. Scott should have had a hat trick, but those two goals will be great for his confidence. seedorf is crazy fast, he’s going to be fun to watch, and illic looked handy when he came on. Donnelly is doing ok, but he was wasteful a few times, similar to McHugh at his worst without the ability to win headers. Nice finish though. Polworth played well, but Morton seemed to give him acres of space all first half. Interesting to see Maguire in midfield for the last 20 or so. I really like the look of Gallagher, solid player.

Our experience against stjarnan was similar, and possibly Mypa before that. It’s difficult for clubs like us and Killie to sustain success over more than a couple of seasons.

    Robinson yer time is up

It’s good to have some stability, especially with our model and the need to overhaul the squad almost every year. The manager gets all the blame when things go wrong, so it’s only right he gets the praise when it goes well. He has tended to revert to the percentages based approach when things were hard, so he has to get credit for switching to a more attacking style to turn our season around. He has also been involved in 3 overhauls of the squad, which I don’t think any other manager has had to do here. So for the sheer number of signings he’s going to have some duds in there, but I’d argue his success percentage must be up there.

The combination of one tweet and a post on here asking about said tweet means the daily record has an exclusive on its hands.

There have been a handful of truly great players who managed to be world class without necessarily working hard, or were afforded a more free role due to the work of world class players around them, I think he might think he’s one of them.

We said we had two wingers lined up just prior to the seedorf signing, and the videos of ilic suggest he plays most of his games as a left winger, so I don’t think we need to worry about him taking playing time from livingstone or Carroll.

They haven’t said that it’s stopped, so I’m taking that as a sign that it will continue.

Not much to go on here, hasn’t played many professional games outside of a couple of short loan spells. Will be interesting to see how he develops.

    2019-20 Rebuild

It seems we have Johnson and Scott who are designated as strikers only, and cole and long who have been described as strikers/wingers. Then hylton who is purely a winger. Johnson didn’t fit into the front 3 setup last year, so I’m wondering what changed there. I think we need another striker who can play up top alone and one more winger. This gives us competition and something from the bench.

Would you welcome a buyer for the Club

Never say never, but unless we had a motherwell fan who had come into a bunch of money and truly had the club at heart, I don’t see that happening, or working. Source: we tried it and it didn’t work.

    Signings that you got wrong

All the talk of who we’ve signed so far, and who we’ve still to sign got me thinking of the past signings I was way off the mark on one way or the other. Someone who I thought would be terrible - Martyn Corrigan. I’m pretty sure he wasn’t getting a game at Falkirk, so seemed like a backup at the time. It also took me a while to warm to him when he got some games. Someone I thought was going to be awesome for us - Neil Tarrant. He was a free scoring striker for Ross County, and was on loan at Ayr when they roasted us in the Scottish Cup at fir park. He was particularly impressive. So when we signed him from villa I really thought we had got a bargain. Don’t think he played more than a couple of games. I’m guessing that Michael Higdon might feature a lot here, but who could have predicted his huge season?
