  1. We see our own transfer mistakes more than we see others, because most of us don't care about Ross County squad players. With the finances available to us, when we sign a known quantity, they're going to be flawed in some way. Blair Spittal is a good example of this, he has been an ever present for us and a potent threat going forward with a good number of goals and assists, but he isn't fast. There's a reason players drop to our level, and pace is probably his. He will make a good career hovering around mid table in Scotland, and hopefully we can keep him. Despite some of the stick he gets in here, most teams would kill for someone that produces what he does. If we were able to sign 10 players at Spittals level, we'd be in a very good place, but we probably can't afford that. When we sign an unknown, there's that chance that we unearth a gem, but that's less and less likely as every club has access to the same data and analysis as we have, and for the most part they have more money. So, we have to try and be clever and shop in non traditional markets, or bring in someone who we think we can improve, i.e. a project. Because of that, we don't want to out all our eggs in one basket, in case the project doesn't pan out, so we need to bring in a couple and hope that one works out. We already know the pitfalls of loan signings. Then you get to January signings, which at our level is picking up the scraps. We're not prizing a good player from another team that wants to keep them, so we have to rake through the cast offs and see if we can reclaim something. Then, since we don't have the chance to sign anyone again before the end of the season, we naturally panic and stock up on a couple extra just in case. On top of that there's form and injuries. We can't afford to let players hang around in the squad until they are in form, or drop first teamers when they are out of form, so we often have to move player on in the hope that we can bring someone in who can hit the ground running. Some clubs are better at this than others, but I'm sure that if someone did some analysis, the margins would be pretty small.
  2. I think the championship is more likely.
  3. How often have our fans legitimately been unable get a ticket for a game because they are sold out?
  4. Turnbull has won a bunch of medals and made a fortune, and he's still just 24. He will be just fine.
  5. We need a lot, but we don't neccessarily need to sign them in order.
  6. I wonder how many clubs have made last minute panic signings just to appease their fan base. It would take some balls to stop after the properly identified targets didn't pan out, and just say "we will have to make do with what we have". Instead most teams will try to find *someone* Then you're left with someone you didn't really want for at best six months, if not longer. It's also a sellers market, where agents know they can move on clients for inflated prices by generating a panic driven bidding war in the last day of the window. They can hold clubs to ransom. We all fall for it too. Imagine we made 2-3 really good signings in the next couple of days, but shut up shop on the last day of the window. We'd be furious. We all want that last minute deadline day signing.
  7. Nouble has been utter gash for a while, and anonymous the last few times they've played us. I like Anderson better, and he's shite as well. Sounds like we weren't really in for Fraser and the agent was just using us to get a move for him.
  8. Something about the popes religion or a Bears toilet habits.
  9. No, he said Wilkinson went to southend, instead of the other obscure team he actually went to.
  10. Gent played well, but seemed to forget we don't have biereth anymore. Hopefully we get someone that can get on the end of his crosses. Was great to see him get his first professional goal after what must have been a really difficult time for him. Picked spittal, two excellent goals, and goals win games.
  11. Looks like all of the premier league teams struggled today, so good to get the comfortable win and move on. Also good to get Miller and butcher back on the pitch, and debuts for the two new guys. Easiest possible draw for the next round please.
  12. I'd love to know the actual number of new sign-ups. For all we know, we get an average of 4 new sign-ups every two months, and we got 5 from the first 48 hours of this.
  13. January signings are generally loans, cast offs, and people that aren't getting games elsewhere. We are not paying fees, so we are limited. They are also by their nature panic signings, which means clubs are going to pay over the odds because they have no choice.
  14. Our system relies heavily on wing backs getting up and down the pitch. Going into the second half of the season with just one lwb would be madness, as we need to account for injuries, suspensions, and substitutions. In Montgomery we now have competition/backup. We do have Wilson, but maybe we want him getting regular games somewhere? Despite it coming up so often, I don't think we have ever used a combination of two fullbacks (one strong attacker and one strong defender) on one side, outside of an in-game issue.
  15. I have definitely chilled out to a degree after watching McMahon's interview. Some of my initial criticisms were based on assumptions, i.e. "is that it?", but this looks to be one part of a wider strategy, and we're just going to have to wait and see how that part pans out.

  17. Where's this Watt chat coming from? Is it just common sense because he's in danger of spending a full season somewhere, which would be weird for him? I like Penney, but does he not hate Scotland?
  18. Or Sam Campbell's? It's a tricky one.
  19. If we're serious about attracting investment, then we need to be serious about how we go about it. A tongue in cheek hail-mary video isn't going to cut it. Some actual information on the benefits and what the club means, and would do with additional investment, and actually targeting people, is the only way to do this.
  20. I watched it in bits, with the sound off and subtitles because I'm at work. My colleague actually noticed my despair and asked me what's up. I shared the video, so we got some American exposure. He thought it was cringe too. I also sent it to my wife just there (also american), she feels so bad for me, you'd think my gran just died. This is St Mirren opening a Celtic shop in their stand levels.
  21. Was interesting that in the interview DW talked about our player recruitment success stats, and how comparable they are to other clubs. We are always going to be more critical of our own recruitment, because we remember all our shite players, but only ever remember the good players from other teams. It's the same as when old firm fans go on about so and so being a good wee player, because they played well in a backs to the wall draw five years ago. Jump on any other fans forum and you'll find all clubs have a bunch of shite signings every year. When the clubs throwing around tens of millions don't have a great strike rate, it's hard to expect the ones fishing down the back of the couch for pennies to do much better.
  22. He was really coming onto a game before he got injured at tynecastle. This has been the story of his career so far, small runs of games broken up by injuries. He has all the physical attributes, but makes too many mistakes on the ball. He will be just fine as a bench player for the rest of our season, in place of one of the 4 weans we currently put on there. And with his much heralded two-footedness, it's like we've just signed two players!
