  1. brian mclean got injured on the 2nd austria trip i think. we played a romanian team doing their preseason in scotland in 2008. burn_broomfield and myself went up to dalziel park to watch the game on a saturday afternoon only to be informed the game was finished and was played at bellshill's park
  2. steve jones. law has been a great signing but mccall hasn't handled him too well. he spent a large part of the season trying to change a dangerous winger into a centre mid playmaker and it didn't work. it's pretty obvious law is his favourite and he even gets a hard time from the other player's on twitter for being the gaffer's pet. omar is a bad joke but mccall still chose to give him a two year contract despite the fact that there wasn't one other team in for him and he is a very inconsistent player. that deal was clearly based more on sentimentality than reason and we can't afford that with our budget. this guy is 31 in december, has never played above league two and has only managed 20 games out of 104 for his club over the past two seasons. not the sort of player we should be looking at.
  3. because 2 out of the 3 signings he has made from his old club have been duds and he doesn't seem to have any sort of objectivity when it comes to his old boys. we've got 5 centre halfs at the club already and i'd be quite happy to go with them next season.
  4. any chance of signing anyone who hasn't played for bradford?
  5. we can probably look forward to a few more televised games than usual next season. you would imagine without rangers in the league our fixtures against the likes of hibs, united and hearts will be high on the list of games that sky and espn want.
  6. if this was anyone else i'd assume it was a piss take.
  7. just pointing out that even if we replace jenno there is a decent chance we will sign a dud. omar might up his game this season but it's more likely he'll continue to contribute fuck all and take up a wage.
  8. he had a couple of difficult years but he came into the team very young and burned out. he was our player of the year in each of his final two seasons and had a decent goal scoring record in both of them.
  9. falkirk and accies would have had clauses cutting their players wages if they got relegated. we haven't been relegated and have to pay our players what we agreed to. we have no overdraft or benefactor so if our outgoings are more than our income and we can't pay our bills we will have to go into administration.
  10. looks like a high horse to me. multi year contracts are why we might end up in administration. if we only offered one year deals it would be easy to cut our cloth to the new financial reality. but if you want to build a decent side multi year contracts are a must and you run risk of an unforeseen change in circumstances leaving you without enough money to cover your liabilities. anyone who was truly concerned with us not being financially dependent on the old firm would have been screaming from the roof tops not to sign any player to more than a one year deal.
  11. i'm sure he's far too level headed to spending everything he's earning. i suspect he will have been saving the majority of his wages. he doesn't seem like the bentley and cristal type anyway. i'd imagine hammell, las and reynolds were/are the same. quinn is probably skint.
  12. an idea for getting clarky on board might be to offer him a low wage this season with an increase in the second and third years. even with a budget reduction we will still have a lot of wages freed up next summer. if we can't do it, we can't do it but the prospect of bringing in a quality centre forward with the club at heart who would be the focal point of our team for 6 or 7 years isn't something that happens often. clarky is a guaranteed hit for us and will stick with us for years. jenno's would be replacement could well be the next omar daley. i'd take my chances with las, law, hateley and carswell and go for goals.
  13. there's not one self sufficient football club in the entire world! why wouldn't we rely on income from the old firm? they've been a large and reliable stream of income for most of the existence of the club. we are on a precipice financially for the next 12 months because we budgeted for rangers and celtic to be in the top league - as they have in every other season of scottish football since the league began. if we can through the next 12 months then we have plenty of scope for changing our financial model. i don't recall you warning of us of the dangers of signing players to multi year contracts when we signed randolph on a three year deal or extended hutchy's contract so don't be getting on your high horse now.
  14. i'm going up to buy my season ticket on wednesday and handing my stamp back. i'd urge all well fans to do the same. if we cut back on stamps we can probably bring back shaun fagan to fill the number 8 jersey
  15. stamp addressed envelopes, a4 paper and printer ink?
  16. i am voting yes! pissing in the wind but i'm genuinely worried about a potential cash shortfall this season.
  17. dunfermline have a guy called gavin masteron who they owe £10 million to. ronnie macdonald allegedly uses some dodgy methods to balance the books at accies. also they only have two low maintenance stands and all their players are utter shite.
  18. i've seen a few first division fans saying they could handle a newco if they got a second promotion place or playoff. one year of hunnery for something that would boost the long term prospects of every club.
  19. we're already 18th. when the good year drops off we'll be mid 20s unless something unbelievable happens this season. bert
  20. they are banned from europe for 3 years regardless.
  21. i remember being at the game thinking that united's support was terrible for it being a reduced entry game. i also remember the east being so busy people were standing up the back and near enough every seat in the section i was in being used. edit - 900 according to their website. so the financial equiavlent of a 250 travelling support.
  22. when the points from 2007/08 - manchester, celtic making the last 16 of the CL and aberdeen getting through the group in the uefa cup - drop off next season our league ranking is going to drop to the mid 20s. we will have a champs league spot and 3 europa places.
  23. we won't have any more or less chance than we do at the moment. that's not going to encourage any extra bodies to come to fir park. we only need to look to the attendance at the st johnstone game to see lure of european qualification.
