  1. Some varied opinion on players, a good read! Worth taking into account that players out of contract might have no interest in resigning and be looking to move on, while also players in contract (i.e. Turnbull, Hastie, Dunne) might have suitors and be part of the model 'need to sell a player'. I suspect there are underlying matters with Cadden (carrying injury but playing / transfer talk) and Mchugh (captaincy / concussion) that impacted their performances and recent game time. I doubt we could get more qualified replacements from our usual transfer sources and I think we would do great if we could retain both players! Others out of contract also have continued value to the club if we could retain. Whilst there has been some eye piercing games to watch, we have stayed in division ( 17/18, 18/19... looks that way) and its down to having better players than 4 or 5 other clubs who are not improving anytime soon. Our gradual introduction of our youth is promising and what most fans want/believe in, but it would be mad for a complete cull. We need some seasoned campaigners to support and bring the youngsters on. I trust the club judgement as a whole more than 90% of the short term views splattered in this and other threads on who brings what to the team.

  2. Do you know what is on offer, or just making a wild guess? Even offering him a first team wage doesn't mean it isn't miles away from what he wants. And we don't want to follow the Dundee Utd model of tying down every youngster on 5 or 6 year contracts on high salaries. (Plus there's still the chance he could be the next Paul Mills or Paul Tracey).

  3. We didn't get "caught out" though. In fact, quite the opposite - we stuck by Erwin when he had long term injuries and renewed his deals even when he was unable to play. He had his head turned by "better" offers when we had a good one on the table, and the rest his history.

  4. I have been a member on these boards since 2009. Over time you get to know the posters. They remain anonymous but their forum names become well known to the people who read the forum regularly. I have absolutely no problem with differences of opinion. It is the differences of opinion that make these boards successful. The post above resonates with me for two reasons, one because Kmcaplin (whoever you are) is a great example for me of a familiar name on these boards, who's opinion I sometimes disagree with but always respect because the opinions are always reasonable, fair and rational. He (I am assuming he because of my narrow minded, last century view of the footballing world) never that I can recall, attacks players or managers personally and seems to have a sensible view of Motherwell's natural position in the footballing food chain. A poster above said 'Criticism is part and parcel of a football managers job'. Sadly, this is true, but sometimes that is an excuse to allow faceless people on football forums to hurl all sorts of abuse at managers, when quite possibly these same people are not reaching the elite heights of excellence and performance in their own lives. We put an expectation on football managers at times that goes beyond what is reasonable. Secondly this post resonates with me because by admitting that possible she (in the interests of balance and with the pretense of having an enlightened view of the modern world) got it wrong, Kmcalpin displays the same attributes that Stevie Robinson has shown in turning our season round. The ability to see that mistakes were made and change it is a sign of a very good manager. My feeling is that in Stevie Robinson we may actually have won a watch. Time will tell. This is a very long winded way of saying that the post above is a great post!!!

  5. I remember walking with my pals through Stirling town centre one afternoon when I was 13 or 14 (around '94), giving it "theres Mark Hateley" and laughing when we saw a tall guy with a baldy/mullet combo, "theres Basile Boli" when we saw a big bald Black guy, etc. Being a Well fan,I shouted "theres John Philliben" when I saw a guy who looked like Softy, only for the actual guy to turn round and say "its Mr Philliben to you, ya wee prick!" lol

  6. Personally I would let Frear go, I think we can find better regardless.

  7. Like a few others I was beginning to lose faith in Robbo going into the winter shutdown. We failed to kick on after last season and the summer recruitment drive was less than successful. I didn't like the longball style of footie we played but was lesss concerned than many others about that. What concerned me most was our poor results. However Robbo has turned it around suddenly and dramatically. We're now winning gmaes albeit against bottom 6 opposition but we're also playing attractive footie with home grown talent featuring prominently. So, I take my C&A hat off to him. What he has done, unlike many others before him, such as Maurice Malpas, is acknowledge he had made mistakes and change things. Thats why I've really warmed to him in the last month or so. No manager is going to get things 100% right be it tactics or signings. He's really turned things around and deserves credit for that. I'm happy to say that my opinion of him was wrong.

  8. Why do posters bother with the wind up merchants ? They are so obvious like a glo in the dark stick. Robinson deserves criticism for most of this season, but behind all that is one of the lowest budgets in the top flight. Most sensible fans could see he had something about him. 2 cup finals for only then 2nd time in our entire history. On the back of a reduced budget to boot. I could list the names but no need, most fans know who they are. The miserable brigade. Still find something to moan about after 5 league wins on the bounce. Here is a clue. Anyone who is still negative on the back of those results need to stop winding the good folk on this forum up. But then they have bugger all left to do in their miserable lives.......

  9. Is that the same man that brought in Carson, Gillespie, Dunne, Kipré, Aldred, Tanner, Gorrin and Johnson? I'm not Robinson's biggest fan but people have selective memories when criticising his transfer record. Most of the signings that didn't work (Fisher, Plummer, Petravicius, Taylor-Sinclair), he moved on pretty quickly....

  10. What a great post. One of the reasons I seldom come on here anymore is not because folk have different opinions (which is healthy) but because of the vitriolic and personal nature of some of the attacks on our manager, chief exec, and some players and fellow posters. I see the usual suspects have gone quiet, awaiting no doubt a defeat or poor performance to take to their keyboards again. Don't get me wrong, there were questions to answer and mistakes made, can't say any of us were happy at what we were watching. I just despaired at the lack of reasoned thought, balance and the vindictivness of some contributions. Suppose its easy sitting behind a keyboard. Sent from my SM-A320FL using Tapatalk

  11. It’s that “grass is always greener” mentality. History tells us it rarely is and when running a small budget a management position at a club like ours and those around us is always going to be tough. We’ve just gone above Hibs, a club with a budget probably three times higher than ours which is an achievement in itself in my view. Sadly I guess it’s just human nature that when things are not going well people go on the attack and someone is getting it, whether some of the accusations are actually factual does not seem to matter, Turnbull and Robinson had fallen out being only one example.
