Some crazy options here. You can't fire a manager every time you hit a bad spell. For a start if you start doing that you'll never attract any decent quality managers because no one will want to join a club were you are 6 or 7 games away from the sack. You review the situation at the winter break and if it's look bad then.....maybe.......but it'd have to be bad, right now we are a point off being top 6.2 points

The pp game think we might scrape a win here god knows we need one to restore the faith. Let’s get behind SK and the team. Since I was young I followed on Motherwell fc THE team for me….1 point

The notion that KVV gets the credit for the run last year and SK gets none is nonsense. That being the case you couldn’t criticise the manager for recent performances as it’s all down to the players.1 point

Happy Clappers. Such a patronising phrase. Let's fire out Negative Nancies at you boys for your style. If you add up the points you predict we will get in any season be lucky if it's double figures. Complete joke. Forums suit negative people like yourself and Steelboy. Trying to talk the loudest and criticising everyone who doesn't share your viewpoint. Tell me this why have the Hibs, Livingston, Ross County managers not been sacked yet?1 point

Maybe the reason Kilmarnock splashed out on McInnes was to make sure they got out of the Championship. He does well in that league. And maybe the reason we didn't push the boat out was because we absolutely fucked 2 of his teams in cup semi-finals, or it could've been the fact this managerial giant won a total of one trophy with Aberdeen's budget and fan base behind him.1 point

Who has won two trophys since we last managed it in 1991? Us or Kilmarnock? Who has beaten Rangers several times in the league since 2002? Us or Kilmarnock? The answer to both questions is the same. I’ll give you a clue…it isn’t us.1 point

Who finished higher in the league last season? Who was in the play off? Bunch of panic merchants in here.1 point

We're in an odd position with SK. If we brought in a mgr with a win 50% win percentage fans would be delighted. It's the feast/famine that is hard to take. Albeit no-one complained when we had the feast. Had there been an even spread of wins/defeats draws over the last 30 games, with a 50% win rate I reckon we'd all be reasonably satisfied with progress. It's the run of 7 games without a win that kills the mood and creates an intolerance. Coupled with recent games not creating any real chances. A similar famine killed off the likes of McCall, Robinson and to a lesser degree Alexander. All clubs good through good/bad spells, we could do with ours being less polarising. SK needs to turn things around and we do need to start winning games but give him the opportunity to do it.1 point

You simply can't compare Tommy McLean's time with today. In those days a manager could attempt to buy his way out of a really bad spell, there was no transfer window to tie his hands. If a club is stuck on a losing run now, the boss better pray it happens in December. Otherwise, him getting the boot is the only change that can be made. I doubt any manager would actually want to stay at Fir Park for 10 years these days. Building a successful team has become almost impossible when any decent player is off within 6 months or a year. Look at the countless duds Tommy brought in before he got there with a couple of sides. We haven't seen his like again and almost certainly never will.1 point

Good point. If these figures are right it is pretty impressive. 8 in 36 would have us finishing top 6 in a league season. Do we really want to sack a manager with that record? There is a few mitigating factors in the last 7 games. Firstly two of these games were against the OF and could so easily have been draws. Secondly we have missed a couple of key players in Biereth and Butcher. Yes, they are now back but they have to be given time to get back to full match fitness. KVV is the X factor that makes both past and current form difficult to quantify. We can only hope that Biereth fills that gap when fully fit. A 1-0 defeat at Rugby Park is not uncommon. We have had results like that during good spells in the past. I think we need to see how the next two games play out before jumping to any conclusions. The Ibrox game seems a long time ago now but was actually only just over a month ago. It is funny how quickly the mood music changes.1 point

I think we're past the inspirational stage as far as fans are concerned. Anything he said after the game was gonnae piss folk off. It's simple - Kettlewell and the players need to start picking up points, whatever way they can, because words are literally pointless now.1 point

It's beginning to look a lot like it was actually KVV who did a great job of keeping us up last season.1 point

I didn't go to the game yesterday because I had more important things to do, and it looks like my decision was correct. Going by the posts here, it seems like Kettlewell has lost the plot, and the players have downed tools. Very concerning.1 point

So is the Motherwell Football Club manager strategy to replace the manager every season for the new manager bounce then sack him? Alexander got about a year before the support started to turn. Kettlewell has had 9-10 months. A month ago people on these boards were posting Kettlewell's fantastic managerial stats and touting him for the Hibs job. This bad run started with us running both Rangers and Celtic very close, so we are really talking about the last four games as being the start of the loss in form. The notion that we have any pre determined right to beat the likes of Aberdeen, Livingston, RC or Killie is unrealistic. If after a season, we find ourselves at the bottom of the league then it may be time to look at a change of manager but are we seriously suggesting that this is the correct decision after four poor games? As a sustainable model for any club that type of strategy is unworkable in the long term. RC were a whisker from relegation last year and they stuck with the manager. Killie likewise. Is it poor decision making from these two clubs to keep those managers or can we recognise when taking the emotion out of the argument, that these football managers are doing good jobs in difficult circumstances. The manager of Motherwell has a task that is equally challenging. Kettlewell did a great job to keep us up last season. He has proved already that he has the skill set to turn things around. The notion that we bin him after four poor games is ridiculous. St Mirren fans wanted Robinson out after a run of bad results early in his time there. Aberdeen fans were starting to voice concern about Barry Robson. He has just won two games on the bounce. It is the fans more than anyone that drive this unhealthy desire for change at the first hint of trouble. Give Kettlewell a chance. He deserves the support of the fans.1 point

I'm definitely getting concerned but I don't see any reason at the minute to get rid of kettlewell but I think a few more bad results then we will need to seriously look at changing it around the turn of the year.i hope he doesn't start overthinking everything and we start to see a number of changes and daft formations each week out of sheer desperation,he needs to find a way of making us hard to beat again and build on it from there, confidence looks gone and individual mistakes are happening to often,we need to stop the rot and quick.i would be dropping kelly for a start,he is installing no confidence in anyone, get spencer at right wing back and give gent a go on the other side and get a bit balance to the team and let them attack all day long,it might not work this time but we seen what happened when johnstone and furlong came in last season.we need mika in the team as much as possible,if that's on his own or part of a pairing, either way we need a body or two getting forward from midfield.i think we can turn our form around but it will only happen if we get back to basics.the manager is coming under more and more pressure but the players need to have a look at themselves there's still to many that go hiding at the first sign of trouble and guys like kelly and slattery among others have previous for it.1 point

Completely with you . The short term view of many baffles me - albeit I understand the emotion. a few months ago this board was full of ‘the ketttle is boiling ‘ a few bad performances and we’re ready to bin him ?! When you look at the size of crowds , coupled with not having a wealthy benefactor where do people think we should be in the league ? 8th - can’t really argue with that . Performances have been poor for last 3 games but that’s what happens with confidence . Today I think SK lost the plot with his formation , several bad decisions and it’s the first post match assessment that I felt he’s hidden from the facts but until now he’s delivered pretty decent return . He deserves time to show what he’s made of . See where we get to in the next 8 or so games . Suspect we’ll pick up points .1 point

Thought it was quite a bold team selection from SK today. Wasnt really sure what it was going to look like, but he did what a lot of fans were asking for by dropping SOD, Slattery and Bair. It was clear from the outset that he picked a team to combat the pitch and try and keep us competitive in the match. For the most part it worked. We looked more solid in defence and didnt cough up any easy chances in the first half. We made Kilmarnock work for them and they didnt have a shot at goal for the first 30 mins. Not going to say I was pleased at the style of our football or that we created a raft of chances, but today for me was about playing the circumstances, so I wasnt that unhappy at half time. That all changed with the goal. We got a warning just minutes before when we failed to defend a cross into the box and the Killie player headed straight at Kelly. We didnt heed that warning and again got caught in the transition with Kelly spilling a very easy take and none of our defenders making any response to allow Cameron an easy finish. After that it became very much more open as we yet again chased the game. It was clear the players were under instruction to play it long, so it was somewhat ironic that our best play and chances actually came when we got the ball down and played football. Over the piece Killie deserved to win. But it was another game of fine margins where poor decisions from the manager and players have contributed our own downfall. Thats now 7 without a win. We are still in the pack and a couple of positive results would take the pressure off. But every game that passes without that win will just keep heaping on the pressure. Tuesday night now becomes huge.1 point

Kettlewell is still in charge, let's bin this talk for now. Let's see how next 2 games pan out. He has dropped players not performing today. Defence more solid as lost 7 previous 2 games Let's focus on Tuesday and hopefully a huge win1 point

McCall wasn't good enough for the championship with either Ayr or Partick. Both teams got relegated . He hasn't had a decent record since 2002 and is now 60. We all have opinions , just surpises me that his name crops up. A few weeks ago we were going fine. I'd personally give SK time to turn things around.1 point

Some Motherwell fans need a reality check. 6 weeks ago, Kettlewell was the messiah, now they want him sacked. Yes his transfer buisness, especially in the forward area is questionable to say the least, however that is probably more down to the money (or lack thereof)he was given to spend. We can`t keep sacking managers every time we go on a bad run. Get behind the team and hopefully we`ll recapture that early season form.1 point

Six losses out of seven…doom and gloom, realism/to-MAY-to, to-MAH-to. Or perhaps you’d rather hear the story of Goldilocks and the three Bears? Albeit in the Happy Clappers version Goldilocks is wearing a Claret & Amber ribbon when the bears find her asleep in their bed having eaten their porridge and broken their chairs, so for that reason they forgive her, fire up Twist and Shout on Alexa and they all jump about the house shouting “there’s only one James McFadden”…0 points
