You should try sitting in the East!

The St Mirren fan recently tried a similar scheme to this, so a fans society could own the club. They raised 1.5 million quid, but the board demanded 2 million to sell up and so the scheme failed. If those fans can raise 1.5 million to put into the back pocket of Gilmour etc. for a chance to own their club I think it'd be pretty embarrassing if we can't raise 250,000 to help the club out, considerring we're to be gifted the shares. I can't believe that level of apathy exists among our support. I know not everybody can afford it. If not, chip in with a couple of mates and buy one membership between you, or sign your kids up for the juinior membership, don't just shoot the idea down in flames.

On the "Ojamaa" thread, the MFC Official account has confirmed that neither is a done deal yet:

^^^^ This ^^^^ Nobody can think it's a coincidence that our best home performance of the season comes in the game when the crowd provide the best atmosphere, and everybody gets right behind the team. What's a shame is the fact it took a wrongly disallowed goal and a red card for it to happen! Everybody needs to get right behind the boys on Saturday. Whether we start well or poorly, whether the ref's a donkey or not. With everybody kicking out the negative sh!te and creating as good an atmosphere as possible we can help the team open a 6 point gap on our two rivals for 3rd place. As the boy says on the PA at Fir Park before every game: "C'mon 'Well fans, let's hear you get right behind the 'Well"

We have dropped off, but the placing's are always one year behind. (so you know at the start of the season how many places are up for grabs at the end.) The year before last we were 16th so Last year we had 1 CL spot and 3 EL Last year we were 15th (we were poor but the Swiss were worse), so this year we have the 2 CL and 3 EL This year we have dropped to 18th but this is still subject to change, but we're likely to be back to 1 CL and 3 EL next season (unless Celtic win tonight and go on a great run). 16th or lower and we wouldn't lose any more places in the draw, just all Scottish teams would come in a round or so earlier in the qualifications. Hope that made sense!

I'm pretty sure that's wrong, in fact I was sure we had one of the widest (but shortest) pitches in the league. EDIT: A quick check on http://www.scottishgrounds.co.uk/ backs up what I thought, whether their numbers are accurate or not I'm not sure: Rangers: ......115 x 78 yards Motherwell: ...110 x 75 yards St Johnstone: .115 x 75 yards Inverness: ....115 x 75 yards Celtic: .......115 x 74 yards Kilmarnock: ...115 x 74 yards Hibs: .........112 x 74 yards Hearts: .......107 x 74 yards Aberdeen: .....110 x 72 yards Dundee Utd: ...110 x 72 yards Dunfermline: ..115 x 71 yards St Mirren: ....110 x 70 yards Second widest (after Rangers), second shortest (after Hearts).

There have been a number of good balls into the box this season which have resulted from Humphrey getting down the wing, being double teamed, then playing the easy ball back to Hateley. He then has plenty time to measure the cross as he is left unmarked because the defending team has 2 men on the Humph. I see it all the time in front of me in the East Stand, not sure why others don't. Humphrey isn't setting the world alight this season, but IMHO that's to a fair degree down to being doubled up on. Even then I do still think we are getting benefit out of having him in the team. In saying all that, it's an area where we have decent cover, so I wouldn't be too upset if he did go (assuming there was a fair bid).

I went for big Higdon, though was a toss up between him and Jennings. Couldn't believe what I was hearing at times though, at one point someone behind us was shouting "Get your self back on side Higdon ya big lazy b@astard" This was as Motherwell were taking a goal kick, proving that his critics clearly don't have a clue about football.

While it's a shame that some people won't be able to make the game because of the change, I'm actually looking forward to the Friday night game. Quite like a midweek fixture under the floodlights anyway, this'll be like that but I'll be able to get a few pints before/after as well. As long as it's only an occasional thing I don't mind. I do have the same gripe I have with all the TV fixtures, they should announce these things at the start of the season, rather than changing the date/time of fixtures a few weeks before the game when people have possibly already made arrangements.

Good interview up on MFC TV with Stevie Kirk talking about the scheme they were running for the kids during the October school holiday. http://www.motherwellfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/TV/FeaturesDetail/0,,10292~2495237,00.html Hammy and Las look to be having at least as much fun as the kids!

While the keeper was poor, I don't think he was particularly lucky. How many Motherwell players now or in the recent past would be comfortable slotting away a chance like that from a narrow angle with his "wrong" foot. The vast majority would have wasted time getting the ball back onto their "good" foot, allowing the defense time to get back. Higdon has more than once this season already calmly taken a chance on his weaker side. (PS. this doesn't apply only to Motherwell players, Fernando Torres cost £50 million and only uses 1 foot.)

Stats updated to include todays game: GOALS Michael Higdon...6 Jamie Murphy.....3 Keith Lasley.....3 Tom Hateley......2 Steven Hammell...1 Chris Humphrey...1 Robert McHugh....1 Nicky Law........1 Steven Lawless...1 ASSISTS Nicky Law........7 Michael Higdon...2 Jamie Murphy.....1 Keith Lasley.....1 Ross Forbes......1 Tom Hateley......1 As well as indicating that Higdon is doing his job, highlights how important Law has been for us so far this season. Two great signings by McCall.
-
Yeah, and I'm not claiming that the stats tell you everything either. If Higdon was to keep up a scoring rate of better than 1 in 3 and do absolutely nothing else then I'd be happy. What is annoying me just now is that he's bringing more to the team as well as goals, but still getting terrible abuse. Man of the Match against Hibs winning everything in the air, created numerous chances (which unfortunately weren't taken) against St Mirren, adding much needed aerial power to our defending set pieces. Yes, he played poorly against St Johnstone and Aberdeen but even then I don't think he was the worst player on the park. Some folk need to waken up.

The guys down the end of the east have been doing a great job so far this year getting an atmosphere into the place. Some of the new songs (Humphrey one and Keith chant especially) are great, and the colour added by the flags etc. is brilliant. One thing I would say - and don't anybody take this as criticism - is that I'd prefer if every now and then they could start some of the classic well songs as the only ones that the majority of the ground will join in with are: Well Well super Well... Motherwell Motherwell Motherwell... We are the Motherwell FC... Might be a bit basic in comparison to the new stuff going on, but surely there's time during the 90 mins to get a couple of renditions in! The only way we're going to have a chance to drown out all the miserable barstewards is to get more folk singing/cheering/supporting the team.
-
As a striker Higdon will be judged on the goals he provides/scores for the team, there's obviously more to it but that's his bread and butter. It's early days yet and his form has been hit and miss so far, but: GOALS Michael Higdon...4 Jamie Murphy.....3 Keith Lasley.....2 Tom Hateley......2 Steven Hammell...1 Chris Humphrey...1 Robert McHugh....1 Nicky Law........1 Steven Lawless...1 ASSISTS Nicky Law........6 Michael Higdon...2 Jamie Murphy.....1 Keith Lasley.....1 Ross Forbes......1 If he keeps up that up then I'm not going to be complaining.

You don't believe that's why he never worked out here? With the same Motherwell team that did well under McGhee partially through the extra level of fitness they got from his double training sessions and training every Sunday? (we all saw how well that went down with the genuinely lazy bassas up in Tcheuchterland.) I think Gannon had something about him that could make him a great manager, his personality is getting in the way of that. His not lasting at Motherwell was nothing to do with Lazy players and everything to do with him being offensive to many people within Fir Park, in the playing and non-playing staff.
-
Motherwell Staff Payroll in 2009 was £3.4 Million Kilmarnocks was £4.1 Million Killie don't seperate Football wages from Hotel wages on their accounts, so (unless you have inside info from the club) there's no way of telling if they're spending more or less than us on players. My guess would be that it's about the same.

Yeah, but if the fences weren't there the crowd would have just spilled out onto the pitch, regardless of how badly they were controlled. Which is why the Taylor report banned the use of such fences, obviously in addition to everything else. I was only pointing out that weeyin's comment wasn't totally wrong as was being said.
-
Correct me if I'm wrong, I was only a boy at the time, but was the Hillsbourgh disaster not basically a direct result of the fencing which was only put up in our grounds as a means to control the football hooliganism.

Fair enough, and that may well be Gow's best position. But from my recollection he can also play attacking left midfield which is a position we are lacking in. From what we've seen so far, Forbes can't play there, and from last nights performance Blackman certainly can't. Just a thought, but when we've been lacking creation for a while now, why not try Gow from the left and Forbes in the hole.
