Big game, big away support, and as usual we shit the nest....its the Motherwell way.
-
Aye, best keep him for next seasons title charge....
A title charge and a challenge cup win might be what we need after a shit season, we might enjoy the footie again
-
DEWELL has called a MORITORIUM. That's it close down all unrelated threads.
How will focusing on the HERE and now in a forum help our survival - only the PLAYERS and MANAGEMENT can do that.
This is a forum FFS. Oh and I fail to see how you come to that conclusion on Lawson - nobody's seen enough of him in a Claret & Amber jersey to form an opinion of any kind, be it good or bad.
Lawson could be the greatest player in the country, but if he is constantly injured he is feck all use to anybody. The club have invested a lot of cash over the last 2 seasons in him, wages, bonuses etc for no return so he needs to go. If he had played enough to show he had the potential to be a good addition to the team then he might have been worth another contract, but as it stands we need to let him go, the money could be better spent on players who would actually play once in a while.
-
A wage thief!
He has been totally scunnered with injuries and has never had a chnace to get a run in the team. I feel sorry for the guy as its not his fault.
Very harsh post.
OK maybe a bit harsh, but the fact still remains the club have probably invested a significant amount of cash in him over the last 2 seasons for no return.
-
Yep. Incredible revision from folk here. Lawson has been here for two seasons, and his contribution that anyone can remember is a first half against the Arabs. Get rid, immediately.
Agreed, its unfortunate that he has been injured but he has been a wage thief and contributed feck all to the team in 2 seasons, punt him ASAP.

The first 3 games after the split are vital, especially if one of them is against RC, we need 9 points and hope that RC slip up in either 1 or both of their other 2 games. That would allow us to get back on terms (or hopefully ahead of them
) with a couple of games left, then it will be all to play for.
-
The problem is that we now need someone else to slip up to allow us to avoid the play offs.
Before yesterday's game the players held the clubs destiny in their hands - today they rely on others to pull us out of this mess and having sat through that display I find it difficult to see us winning all our remaining games.
Its still in our own hands,we wont finish bottom so worst case is the playoff,so win that over 2 legs and we stay up. while i dont want us to finish 11th there is nothing to fear in 2 games against Hibs, QOS or Rangers. Have some faith
-
Particks next 2 games are away to aberdeen and celtic so tbey will get feck all from either of them. Then we play them at Firhill so they can be caught assuming we can do the business against kille and St mirren. Our target is 10th place and we are still in touch, countys good run will end but we need to make sure we can take advantage. Another 5 or 6 performances like Friday and we will be ok
-
He is as slow as a week in the jail...but he scores goals on a regular basis give him decent service and he will score more than he misses. If he wants to stay then we should give him a new deal he has earned it
-
Ainsworth for me, but a mention for straker he actually looked a decent player last night
-
We owed that mob a pumping..that was an excellent performance from us tonight it could have been more than 4, and straker actually looking like a footballer as a bonus where did that come from.
-
Signing him long term means we want to develop him and/or sell him on. It doesn't mean he's a starter.
Again, I'm not saying don't play him or only give him 5 minutes - but let's not jump the gun and pretend he has the strength, fitness and guile to be a regular first team starter. He looks the part from a talent perspective and definitely worth a run out in most games.
I agree in part with that, and if he was part of a team with a large squad with half decent players all competing for a start then yes he could be nurtured and given limited starts to develop him. But its Motherwell and the squad is down to the bare minimum and a lot of the players who have been regular starters this season have not exactly covered themselves in glory, so we need to maximise the resources we have.
From what we have seen fromThomas in his limited apperances so far, he seems to offer a lot more than our regular starters, midfield and up front so in the position we are in just now can we afford not to give him a lot more game time. If that means giving him a regular start then thats what needs to happen, the only way he is going to develop as a player is by regular and sustained game time, he will learn feck all sitting on the bench or the odd 5 or 10 mins sub apperance here or there, get him starting and let us see what his real potential is.
-
But the question is, is he better as a starter?
I think the answer is possibly not yet - but certainly worth much more than 5 minutes at the end of a game.
The club have decided he is good enough to earn a new long term contract so he should be playing on a regular basis ie starting every week.
-
Keep the faith guy's we owe this mob a pumping and i think it will be on Friday night, hope we get right in about them from the 1st whistle.
-
I think our season will end next friday.... <_>
Thats a change for you, its normally August you predict that our season is over.
-
Erwin's first touch is substantially better than Suttons.
Suttons performance at Pittodrie earlier in the season ranks as one of the worst centre forward displays I have ever seen. Truly awful.
Thats because all we done was pump high balls over the top for him to chase, and he is feckin pish trying to do that. Get the ball crossed in from wide and have him run on to it, that's where he is most effective and scores most of his goals.
-
Summer football, its a no brainer sitting / standing watching the game on a warmish pleasant evening or sitting / standing wrapped up in several layers of clothing, wet and freezing your balls off, drinking luke warm Bovril to try to get a heat. Aye its a tough choice
-
I would say we need pace at Pittodrie particularly on the counter attack, Erwin does give us pace but I'd actually play Ainsworth up top with McDonald as on his day Ainsworth is capable of scoring but hasn't being showing it enough this season but maybe that might change again on Friday night. I think him and McDonald could work well together.
We need some width as well as pace in the team, so i would have Johnson and Ainsworth starting with Sutton in for Erwin as he is more effective, scores more goals and will hopefully get himself on the end of the cross balls that Ainsworth and johnson are capable of delivering. Erwin has potential but he gets bullied off the ball to easily.
-
Just got it in my head that we need to be approaching 40 points to be safe.
Thats a big ask, at least another 6 wins from 10 games left, not impossible but we need to keep the momentum of the last 2 weeks going.
-
If we did find ourselves in 11th at the end of the season , I am a lot more confident that we'll get through them than I was pre ict game. It will ,however, still be a very tough task.
If its Hibs or Falkirk yes, but if it's Sevco then we will probably bottle it as usual against them, but that said pumping them in the playoffs would be a great end to the season.
-
Anything from this game is a bonus, but we seem to be in better shape than a few weeks ago so never say never, our record up there is not too bad, respect to anybody making the trip up there.
-
Johnson quality of cross is great. If he continues whipping in top class balls we'll be ok.
+ 1 for me as well tbought johnson was excellent today
-
2 points dropped for me,the sending off and Skippys equaliser with the last kick of the 1st half swung the game massively in our favour. But we never got in their faces enough so a big chance missed.
That said its 4 points out of 6 and i am happy with that, plus we are off the bottom so onwards and upwards. Thought straker was ok today, but Erwin was pish all game, Johnson looks a good prospect thought he was excellenr today.
-
£1.5k pw off the wage bill if in the unlikely event Gunnar willing to walk without settlement for his contract
Left by mutual consent according to the official site, so maybe an agreement re money due was agreed, but i would be surprised if it was for the full outstanding term of his contract

I cant believe the utter pish thats been spouted on here re Barraclough, after the 3 recent wins he was a great guy, giving youth a chance, sticking with Erwin, etc etc now after 2 bad results he is a clueless fud. Somebody even suggested Jimmy Calderwood would have been a better choice aye right.
if results stay as they are today then we are still only 6 points adrift with 12 to play for so its not over yet. IB is here for the long haul so we should support him wherever we end up. Which i think will be still in the premiership next season, worst case we finish 11th and then 2 games against Hibs, Rangers, or QOS nothing to fear there. Have some faith guys
