  1. When Gannon was there, Hateley was one of the best performers on the park. Since he has gone he's never kicked a baw! The unrest probably came from Craigan who might have influenced the players because he didn't get on with Gannon. If Gannon was still our manager i think we'd be in a good position at the moment and none of us would be worrying!

 He was an arse who lost the dressing room, its ancient history 3 managers ago FFS, get over it and get behind McCall and the team, they have a season to save. mon the well

  2. time for mchugh, casagolda and Gary Smith to get a game? I think bob and casa are out of contract in the summer so they should at least get a chance

Casagolda was another Brown investment that we have had feck all return on, :whistling: its time we chased him as well and freed up the wages to use on a player that actually contributes something to the club .

  3. We seem to be stuck in this bizarre world where the benefits of playing the OF four times a season over rules everything else, but the main problem is in fact the boredom factor of playing teams like Accies and St Mirren all the time. All the clubs in the SPL figure each other out by Christmas!

Thats the problem the clubs are far too dependent on the income from those games and dont want to lose it. Most if not all SPL clubs if they were ordinary businesses would have closed down years ago as they are not financially viable. They are paying way too much of their annual turnover on players wages, at some clubs it 85% to 90% of their annual income !!!

All the TV money has done is fund ridiculous wages for average players, so its no surprise that clubs want as much cash as they can get. The situation is too far gone to change, you cant just cut wages overnight, you would have no players left.

There needs to be wage caps put in place and clubs forced to gradually reduce their expenditure till they are financially stable and able to live within their means, ie financing all expenditure from ticket sales, merchandise, hospitallity and catering, advertising etc. Any TV money would then be a bonus which could be used to lower ticket prices, attract more fans which in the long run would earn you more money. Simples

  4. Fair enough, he wasn't interested after Brown left so get him to fuck.

Totally agree he wont be missed, just off to the bookies for the odds on Blackman as first goal scorer when we go to Pitoddrie on 15th Feb :D

  5. Why does it seem that nobody wants to come to play their footie at motherwell, all we seem to get in the press are stories about who will be leaving Fir Park. But will it really make a difference if some of the players go this transfer window, i dont think so.

Blackman - Scored a few goals and played well Sept, Oct but has not been interested since we would not have been keeping him long term so if he wants to go let him.

Gow - He has been found out at every club he has played for, done nothing in his time so far at Fir Park, he wont be missed.

Fitzpatrick - The last meaningful thing he done was scoring the winner at Tyncastle in the CIS semi in 2005 !! so again he would not be missed.

We have no money to spend so McCall should be giving the younger players a chance, McHugh, Paige, Forbes, Meechan etc.

The real problems start in the summer as we need to be thinking about a new defence, Reynolds will be away and Craggs is past his sell by date, Hammell has been crap this season but he still has a few seasons in him.

So McCall has his work cut out to try to bring in 2 maybye 3 experienced players, Defence, MID and up front to work with and bring on the younger players, if we can get the balance right we have the makings of a reasonablke team that could be together for a few seasons.

  6. A 10 team SPL is bollocks but the Turkeys wont vote for christmas and change to 16 teams, they wany the extra income that 8 games against the old firm generates. Sky will put some extra cash in as there will be 4 old firm ties to cover and the ugly sisters will get a few extra quid.

So the whole thing is nothing to do with improving the game in Scotland its about extra money for the clubs, SPL, SFL etc. SPL 1 and 2 its a joke, will any of the clubs in the top half of div 1 who will make up the bulk of the SPL 2 be wanting to spend lots of cash to bring their grounds up to SPL standards ? i think not.

They have tried a 10 team set up in the past and it did not work, now we are going back to it as the solution to all the games problems  you could not make it up.

  7. Why all the negative predictions, we will win, i cant see it being a classic but i think we will be too strong for them, i am going for 2-0 to the well.

Dundee are playing well few clean sheets but the standard in Div 1 is not as good as the SPL so you cant compare like for like, would they have had 5 clean sheets in a row playing Hearts, St Johnstone, Aberdeen, Rangers etc i think not.

We have a tough January and Feb that will make or break our season and this is the game to get the momentum started with a good win.

    mon the Well

  8. Really is the most disliked "journalist" aint he? Seems to report any story which is negative towards us with glee. Git.

Keevins is a whinging little :wank: who will make up stories to suit himself, but if it is true why worry the goal machine that is Casagolda will do the Business

  9. Well the ticket prices for the SPL games are already set for the season, so shouldn;t make a diffirence.

    Maybe next season.....

Definitely next season, i think we are going to see the VAT increase as well as any increase the Club makes going on to the season book prices and individual match tickets. As well as that Pies, programs, Bovril etc will all go up as well, so much for trying to encourage fans to come back to games

  10. Hugh Keevins reporting that Blackman on way to Aberdeen. What can you say to that?

If He does go it will be a certainty that he will score a couple against us when we play them up there in a few weeks, thats the way our luck goes. Wonder what the pre match odds on him as first goal scorer are, Jenno will know

  11. That may be what the term has come to mean in recent years but when we 'earned' the tag is was used to describe someone who likes a sleep as part of your cut & paste job above says.

Stop moaning, you can't change history, officially it might Steelmen, and you can choose to use that if you prefer but those of us who choose to use the historical term have just as much right.

Fair point, its everyones right to choose but steelmen or dossers we all support the same team. mon the well :wallbash:

  12. I thought the term "Dossers" was as a result of an Off The Ball competition to find a nick name for 'Well fans. I've been a 'Well fan since about 1970 and never heard the term used by anyone to describe 'Well fans before that programme. I believe it was meant to imply people from Lanarkshire were workshy benefit cheats. As such, I've never really liked it. It may have been used to slag off fans of various clubs over the years as a general Scots insult but I don't think it has always been a 'Well only tag.

Do any of the Dosser clan really want to be describing themselves as workshy, benefit cheating, rough sleeping hobo's as that's what the term means.

The nickname is more suited to the Green half of the ugly sisters in Glasgow.

We are Motherwell, We are the Steelmen :wallbash:

  13. The number of good stands we have is irrelevant, the problem is that the site is not suited for a modern football stadium, and there is little or no scope for redevelopment. It would be a wast of money trying to patch up the East and POD stands, the more cost effective option is to relocate to a new purpose built stadium.

The club could then get a stadium that was up to 21st century standards, good transport links, car parking etc, as well as being able to be used on non match days for various other business activities to bring in extra money. Look at the new grounds that have been built in recent years and learn from the mistakes made, ie not filling the corners in and we could have a 10k seat stradium to be proud of. So sell FP and get moving to a new home, maybe the " Ravenscraig Arena"

  14. Now that we have a new manager in place to hopefully stabilise the team, and maybe bring in a few loan signings in January, what do people think would be a good season for Motherwell ?

    1. we still have a good chance of finishing 4th, and another possible Euro adventure.

    2. A decent run in the Scottish cup, another semi-final at least would be nice.

    3. McCall getting the team playing with a bit of committment and passion, something which has been lacking in recent weeks.

    4. Keeping the core of the team we have now, and trying to get some of the young players, ie Forbes, McHugh, Hutchison, Page etc to realise some of the potential they have.

    Any other thoughts ??

  15. 4th only makes Europe this year is it's a Scottish Cup final between the top three sides in the league! Only top 3 are auto for Europe! Think you are right about the Jambos, looking strong at the moment!

I thought there was 1 Champions league place, and 3 Europa league places this year, (2 for league position and 1 for cup winners) ?

  16. @ SteveDiggle. I think this answers your question in a way.

Im suare all 'well fans will give McCall their support, regardless whether the first choice gaffer or not.

It does not matter if he was 1st choice or 10th choice, he is prepared to take the job and give it a go, so all the well fans should get right behind him to try to get the season back on track.

Given the run Hearts are on i think that they have all but secured 3rd place, but we can still finish 4th, and another European adventure. If McCall can achieve that then he will have done well.

Onwards and upwards, bring on the Accies.

  17. :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

    Well said that man

    Mon the Dossers

Why do people persist in using Dossers as a nickname for motherwell, we have always been known as the Steelmen and IMHO always will be, this dossers stuff is pish.

  18. Well if we went back to Sbragia then things are starting to whiff of desperation. Does not say much about the candidates that are left...

Stuart McCall does not inspire me at all, although most on here will give any Manager 100% backing for a few minutes at least :wallbash:

This phrase from the Sporting Life atricle interested me:

"But Motherwell could yet spring a surprise as there is one strong contender on their list whose identity remains a secret".

My preference would be for Pat Fenlon of those rumoured to still be in the running.

Its the son of satan himself, McGhee is on his way back

  19. Can I what this good experience is and who the good contacts specifically are?

He has been in the game for a long time, and had limited early sucess as a player and manager at Bradford. He knows the lower leagues and whats on offer. He is currently scouting for Norwich so he attends a lot of games and watches lots of players, so presumeably he has an eye for a decent one. I think he is worth a punt by Boyle

  20. We need somone in ASAP so why not McCall, he was a reasonably high profile player in his day so he will get the respect of the younger players, used to working with little or no money, alleged good contacts in the game. We should judge the new manager at the end of the season, not now
