  1. Over the moon to get a win but made hard work of it. Couldn't have asked for a better start with the 2 goals. Maybe natural to react to this in the way we did but I felt for the rest of the half we took the foot off the gas and let Inverness control the game. My biggest grievance was with us sitting far too deep and standing off ICT. For me this has been one of the biggest problems this season dating back to the game at Fir Park against Celtic. I'm not sure if this is a hangover from McGhee's 'counter attacking' tactics or what but it results in us failing to have any dominance over the opposition. Second half was night and day, I thought we played excellent and really took the game by the scruff of the neck. The main factor for me was the improvement in the midfield from the first half, I didn't think Campbell or Pearson done enough first half but in the second half Campbell was outstanding. I thought second half Pearson done alot more than some are making out but agree he is still some way off the pace at times. Frear is really looking like a find and I thought Ainsworth when he came on made a real difference in stretching the play wide. Another observation, Moult despite being not 100% fit won near enough every 50/50 he was in. The guy's workrate is first class. Unfortunately I think this will be his last few games with the club. I heard some rumblings about Bowman but I really like him, thought he added good running and a physical presence. Technically not the best but I think he could turn out to be a decent find. Finally, for me if we didn't have Carl McHugh at the club the last few games I think we would lose a lot more goals than we have. The amount of headers/tackles this guy wins against guys double his side is incredible. If we can get him in midfield next year I think he could be a future captain.
  2. Aye, it's going to be a big rebuilding job this summer From the current squad by my count we need a goalkeeper, 2 strikers, and a whole new midfield and defence hahaha Leaving: McDonald - Pretty confident he will go back to Oz. He has been making noise for the last few windows. Lasley - I love Keith, but now is the time. Retire. Samson - No words. Let him go and find his level in the first division. Faddy - Retire. Chalmers - Please go. Pearson - Think he will go back to India for some more $$$ and can't blame him tbh. Kennedy - Never really made any sort of impact. Release Lucas - Good ability, terrible injury record. Shouldn't have been signed in the first place. Ferguson - Back into the youth team. Jules - Return to sender. Hammell - Retire. Thomas - Let him go to Div 1 club, not SPL quality. Blyth - leave. Keep: Ainsworth - I really think Lionel has something to offer when his head is in the game, it depends what happens between now and the summer. McManus - Keep but phase on to the bench please. Heneghan - Keep, I am a fan. McHugh - Probably one of the best players in the team just now. Clay - For the bench Moult - He will go to a championship team for ~1million Bowman - Keep he is improving
  3. Overall relatively pleased with the team going forward, thought we looked a lot more dangerous than in recent outings. Deflated at the end as I was convinced the Bowman header had gone in but all things considered I thought we played pretty well, unfortuanately we just failed to take our chances. We all know the problems we have defensively but that was really bad on Saturday. Ferguson's defending was unbelievable. He sold both goals, the first by not taking goal side and the second by totally leaving his man then doing a poor header. I understand that he is young and playing out of position however this sort of defending wouldn't wash in the youth team. It was pretty basic stuff and after this he had 2 similar horror moments. It isn't the boy's fault that we are so short at the back but pretending he wasn't a large factor in the two goals is just kidding yourself on. McHugh held things together for the majority of the game whilst Jules continues to do nothing much right. Don't want to harp back to McGhee but he let Laing go to Inverness 'to play in midfield...' but I would much rather we had him at the back than Zak Jules who can't seem to pass or defend particularly well. I thought Pearson had a bigger influence on the game than in recent weeks which was promising. In terms of Craig Clay I can see both sides of the coin, I thought in the first half he was powderpuff and had no influence in the middle of the park but in the second I thought he done a lot better, showing good skill and passing just holding on to the ball a bit too long on some occasions. Fingers crossed Robinson goes to Ibrox with a fresher approach compared than his predecessor, we really need to start picking up points.
  4. Robinson wouldn't have been my first choice due to his lack of experience, however I can understand the board wanting to keep some continuity. I do really like the way he talks and he has done well in the last couple of games so can see both points of view. It is just very risky business given our clubs current league position but it sounds like we didn't have many other experienced options. I also don't agree with some of the criticism of people levelling valid concerns regarding his appointment. On paper he is a relative unknown as a manager. Nonetheless we all need to get behind the new manager and the team starting Saturday. I geniunely believe we have enough quality to get ourselves away from the relegation dogfight. Robinson seems like he knows how to organise a defence, if we can be made hard to beat we certaintly have enough goals up front to move up the table. I think regardless of what happens we really need a clear out of players in the summer. Time for the likes of Hammell, Lasley & McManus to bid fairwell. Some might say 'who will we bring in' but the reality is these guys are earning some of our biggest wages and haven't been producing for some time now. We may moan at times being a Well fan but it is never a dull experience. Bring on the run-in I say
  5. Really hope we get someone in before the St Johnstone game on Saturday. If we make an appointment prior to then I think it would give everyone a positive lift and end all the uncertainty. Not really on the Simo Valakari bandwagon, looks like he done pretty well in Finland but I'm sceptical about bringing someone who hasn't managed in Scotland into this situation. I like Robinson but again I don't think this is the time to appoint a manager with so little experience. To be frank, the talk of these being the two frontrunners is giving me the fear. We are very much in a relegation battle we need someone with experience of dealing with this and someone who will instil some fight into these players. As much as I didn't like McGhee getting rid of him and putting in someone with no experience into this situation seems like a bizarre decision.
  6. Apparently the shortlist for interview is Robinson, John Hughes, Jim Duffy, Billy Davies and Owen Coyle. Quite a strong list if true.. I would go for Billy Davies, failing that Jim Duffy. John Hughes would be interesting too.
  7. Aye, i was there. Good point, but for me the tactical changes were just as big as the subs made. Our change in shape in the second half and the pressing in the second half were just as important IMO. To be honest with you Lasley and Hammell haven't been great for some time. My suggestion of including them is probably more based on not having adequate replacements more than anything else. I'd rather have Lasley in the middle of the park with his legs gone than Clay et all. Atleast he will offer some form of leadership. Much the same for Hammell I would much rather him than putting Jules/McMillan who don't seem to know what they are doing
  8. Had absolutely no idea, I thought he was always a centre midfielder. Makes perfect sense now he slotted in so well.
  9. Would bite your hand off for a point here. If Moult is suspended that is a real blow but as some have alluded to Bowman looked a real presence when he came on at half time on Saturday. Technically I don't think he is amazing however his workrate, strength and aerial ability give us something abit different up front. I would abandon the 5 at the back, don't think it works for us with the midfielders we have at our disposal. I'd go Samson Tait Heneghan McHugh Hammell Cadden Lasley Lucas Pearson McDonald Bowman McHugh was exceptional on Saturday, he seemed to win most balls in the air. I was surprised at how well he adapted to playing in a deeper role. For me Jules is still miles off in terms of positioning and overall tactical aware. I don't think Aberdeen away is the place for him to learn any of that, especially not after the 7-2 drubbing earlier in the season. Likewise for Frear I wouldn't be putting him back in after his outing in the last game against them. I'd opt for Lucas in the middle to add someone steady on the ball and put Pearson out wide. I don't feel as if he has done much in the middle since coming back. Bowman for me was a standout on Satuday and I'm keen to see what he can do in a 'little and large' combo with Skippy
  10. I really like Robinson and I thought he did really well on Saturday. McGhee never would have made those changes at half time. Despite this and the win I don't think we should be making him manager. For me, we need someone with a lot more experience of managing a club. Robinson's only stint as boss was unsuccessful (i appreciate there was difficult circumstances) As much as I didn't like McGhee the logic of getting rid of him and bringing someone in with little experience to guide you through a relegation battle just doesn't stack up. Let's get someone in with experience who ticks all the boxes rather than just putting in a cheap option.
  11. In what way do you think he was unlucky? do you mean due to injuries? Curious as this defensive issue has been present all season
  12. Wow. What a week! I'm glad McGhee is finally away but not exactly brimming with confidence for the future. Hopefully a new manager will change that. Ultimately our players have been well below par and it is about time they step up to the plate. For anyone in doubt - and there was many on this forum - we are in a relegation battle. Our form this season has been absolutely dreadful. Despite this, now is the time to rally behind the team. I am really hopeful that we will bring a good vocal crowd through on Saturday. With McGhee away, a more positive united crowd can only be a good thing. Where do you start with the team? I am struggling. My main focus would be to get rid of the main weak points in recent games. Let's take McMillian & Chalmers for starters, these guys are never going to make it at this level. Neither have the required technical ability or tactical awareness. Zak Jules, I've said from day one when I saw this guy he looks like a bombscare. He mentioned how good he was with the ball at his feet, I'm yet to see this. What I have seen is countless mistakes and poor positioning from him. For me he sums up the English Championship, players that are big, strong and atheltic but have very little footballing ability. He has been sent up here to learn however unfortunately for his feeder club and him we are in a battle to stay in the league. In recent games I've been really disappointed with Pearson and Cadden as well. In order to win we need big performances from them. Samson Tait Heneghan Mchugh Hammell (if fit) Cadden Lucas Lasley Pearson McDonald Moult It may be a case of who can score the most goals.
  13. Think it would be crazy to bring Valakari in IMO. Far too much of a risk
  14. Aye I was a bit young tbf but he was in his 30s at that time, he's since went on to manage some big clubs in England and do pretty well. He would be coming back with loads of experience and knowledge. I have found him likeable any time I have seen him, seems a determined character.
  15. Billy Davies - might be a bit ambitious but IMO this is the ambition the club should be showing. Someone who can make an instant impact but also strive for the best in the long term. Davies would not accept some of the performances we have dished out recently. Jim Duffy - proven to have done well with a small budget at Morton. Highly motivated and very experienced
  16. Considering this as well... Can someone give me the idea of any rail discounts etc? I know there used to be combos offered but don't know what the score is now. 60 pound return on the train is putting me off... would rather get train than bus but seems a bit much.
  17. Massive game, hopefully we can get a decent support out to get right behind the team. The players and manager really need to pull out a performance here. The consequences of losing could be massive with games against Aberdeen, St Johnstone & Rangers coming up. Our form just now is absolutely minging. There can be no excuses. I've heard various arguments recently regarding how well we have done against the teams around us etc but I think at this stage we need to accept the fact our results recently haven't been good enough. We also have the worst goal difference in the league. Dundee looked very up for it yesterday and fair play to them. If we showed the same attitude, commitment and postive tactics we might still be in the cup. On our day I think we still have greater quality than Dundee and a lot of the teams around us. The main thing is we need to ensure we work harder than we have recently and play to our strengths, namely our forward line. Jury is still very much out on Jules, seems to be quite good on the ball but quite clumsy defensively. In saying that I'd much rather play a 3 with him rather than a 4 with Hammell/McMillian who IMO have been rotten for some time now. Been relatively impressed by Bowman recently when he has featured, he gives us hard work and a physical presence so I would include him at the weekend. Lasley similar to Hammell seems to be really struggling, that goal at Aberdeen for example was awful. My team would be.... Samson Heneghan - McManus - Jules Cadden - Pearson - McHugh - Clay - Bowman McDonald - Moult 1-0 to the 'well (pleaseeeeee)
  18. It's funny how one game can totally change your outlook. Hearts looked really good last night and have added some real quality to their squad. Equally Rangers' weakness was exposed and just drives home what could have been had we used our attacking quality to expose Kiernan and co. Prior to last night I seen nothing in Cathro's Hearts but it looks like they have done a total 180 and finally clicked into place. My fear is McGhee will do a 'sit in and stand off' job as we have tried to do and ultimately failed with against the Old Firm numerous times this season. I'd go with:- Samson Tait McManus Heneghen Jules Ainsworth McHugh Pearo Cadden Moult EDIT* Bowman Didn't see the County game but every recent game I have felt we have looked vunerable with Hammell at the back. Any sort of pace and he is getting over run. I would give Jules a chance there seeing as he is left sided. I'm not fully on the Tait bandwagon yet, I think he is good going forward however as with the left side I think we look vunerable especially to crosses. The amount of crosses he actually blocks seems to be a low number. Unfortunately he is the best we have there. If Pearson is fit i think this would give us a massive boost, the energy he provides has been sorely missed. He will also add a physical presence against the likes of Kitchen in the middle of the park. I am excited to see his partnership with McHugh and I think this could work really well together. Absolute no danger McGhee will include Lionel but the above is the team I would implement for what is is worth. The small amount of Frear I have seen, I don't think he is up to speed to offer a solution on the left side of midfield. Fingers crossed for a positive result, I would took a point all day long.
  19. We have won 3 games since November. Our mid-table position is a reflection of how equally shite everyone else has been, not a reflection of how well we have done. Regardless of what side of the McGhee argument you are, denying our form has been terrible is simply just not true.
  20. A bit disappointed we didn't get Ciftci in the end after it coming out of the blue. Not sure what the big stumbling block was with it only being a loan deal. Perhaps we were only wanting him if Skippy was leaving. Obviously I would rather have McDonald than him however I was thinking there might be a possibility of having both. Adding him to what we have would have gave us a fresh threat up front. Hopefully we get Pearson in as I think he will give us some good energy in midfield. Him and McHugh in the middle of the park are an interesting combination. Good luck to Laing always thought he had good potential and gave his all for us.
  21. Over the moon, Amazing result. I wouldn't blame Samson for that goal at all as much as I'm not a fan of him. Our form seems to be pretty good up north, two vital wins against Inverness/Ross County. To me the Hearts game could be really vital in shaping where we go from here. If we win we could realistically be looking at a top six finish. Lose and we could fall behind with our two upcoming fixtures against Aberdeen and Celtic. Fingers crossed this is the start of a change in form
  22. I have to agree, everytime we win/lose there seems to be a bit of one upmanship going on. By all means we should all have an opinion over the manager but at the end of the day we are fans. Present an argument rather than just making sarcy comments against fellow fans. We all want the team to do well. The thing is just because we won last night doesn't mean McGhee is doing an amazing job, our form recently is absolutely dreadful and we are coming into a hard run of games. At the same time good arguments can be made for keeping McGhee as we are currently sitting in the top 6.
  23. Aye, I'm just going on what we have said in the media. McGhee said in one of the pre match pressers that no offer had been made and basically said there was nothing on the table. Fast forward a few weeks and Faddy has said an offer is now made. I don't see any reason why we wouldn't be open about it in the media if we had in fact made a bid in early January, he is not exactly someone in demand. Another possibility is we had offers in for other guys in his position in the first instance which have failed.
  24. At this stage I'm not sure we are going to do any other business. If we can get Pearson in I would be reasonably satisfied. What I don't understand is how it took so long to offer him something. We acknowledged publicly we were aware of his situation but have waited until now to make a bid, hopefully we can get him in sooner rather than later. As well as this I would like to see us bring in another option going forward. Apparently Ojama & Connor Salmon are available, wouldn't mind someone of that ilk. On the bench we don't really have anyone pushing McDonald/Moult. In terms of the business we have done so far, the two loans are obviously for short term cover. I suspect the goalie is basically brought in for the bench. Jules hopefully will challenge for first team but I suspect McGhee will be reluctant to drop McManus/Ben. Early days but I think Frear is going to take a while to adapt to the pace of the game up here as he mentioned on his interview. Any touches he had on Saturday were pretty unimpressive. Fingers crossed we can keep McDonald, Moult and Cadden as losing any of them would be a total disaster.
