Agree completely and with MJC's comments above. It's far too fussy and busy and a horizontal band and verical pinstripe just don't work, even before we get on to The Shorts Question. Our "Theo Bair" year jersey was fine imo and should be our basic template. If the likes of Newcastle United can keep their stripes for a century without needless experiment why not us? We can do that with the other two strips each year. The hoop is such a distinctive feature it's a pity the club don't seem to value it as a "brand". It was used for sixty years until about 1968 and we won the league, cup and league cup wearing it. Oh, well, maybe next year, if I'm still around.

I've never heard the adenoidal Keevins say anything remotely favourable about MFC. He's there to buff up the Ugly Sisters and I've never been convinced his football knowledge extends much beyond their squads. Scottish football's churnalists and presstitutes generally constitute the bottom layers of football writers in the UK, with very few exceptions.

I know it's age-related but me too. We've had some honking strips over the years which deliberately turned their backs on a very unusual combination of colours and design which are unique. We can always reserve the honking designs for the change strips if necessary. Sadly I think we'll get another jersey next season designed by an interior designer on psychedelic drugs.

Nice to see the hoop for once and not an advertising bar or this season's revamped "yoke" from nineteen canteen. God only knows what our groovy "designers" will be up to for next season 😱. Place your bets!

Delighted with yesterday's victory since I didn't think we would win the first two games post-split and was resigned to a few more nerve-shredding weeks. Wimmer has done really well to grind out the points with a poor squad further hampered by an incredibly bad run of injuries while trying to cope with a different football culture and language . At times I even felt he might have regretted taking the job so I'm glad things have turned out well in the end and we have avoided relegation. I hope he now has plenty of time to concentrate on rebuilding for next year and has some specific signing targets in mind because it's obvious the overall ability isn't there at the moment. I'll be renewing my season ticket (which was frankly in doubt given the dreadful football on offer for most of this season and the general downward slide in quality at Fir Park) because it could be interesting seeing what the new manager will do as he tries to mould a new side without the pressure and distraction of involvment in European competition.

DC was a wonderful player (always remember Gullit's assessment of him) but credit to us too for giving him a new lease of life and allowing him to virtually play as he wished. One thing I particularly noticed about David when I saw him every week was that opponents couldn't even get near enough to kick him, he was so aware and so instinctive as a player. I was fortunate enough to work with his gentleman of a brother, who gave me Davie's MoTM engraved wine glass for his performance against Falkirk in the 1991 cup match when I retired. An easy thing to raise a glass to DC when the sad day in March comes around each year. Thirty-eight is dreadfully young to be passing away these days. Thanks for the memories, Mr Cooper.

So easy for a Greek manager when he knows Scotland lack natural goalscorers, are weak defensively and generally lack pace. Set your team up to defend strongly early on and then wait for mistakes and hit quickly on the break and the job is done. Glad Lennon missed this abject performance. I'm afraid our chippy passive-aggressive manager's time should have been up after the dreadful Euro performance #Best Fans Worst Team.

Agreed!

Thanks for that! had no idea Jumbo had Ozzie caps. I blame Shoot! journalism 🤣.
-
Never! Big Jumbo bravely put his head into the danger zone for the greater glory of The 'Well 🤣. Loved his Jackie McInally robot-style running action: quite a charcter. I think Shoot! once tipped him for a Scotland cap but they were probably being a bit optimistic...

Yes, Watt may be slow now but the ball tends to stick to him and he's a fly old pro who would have drawn fouls from G&I, The Gruesome Twosome, and he played a part in Slattery's second goal. Incidentally, I noticed the BBC commentator described it as "trickling" into the net. Hmmmmm: not to sure about that.....
-
Poor guy looked out of his depth and quite relieved to get taken off whereas Slattery seemed to revel in the physicality of yesterday's game. In the highlights you can see how cleverly he got round Gogic for his first goal and he wasn't intimidated by Iacovitti either. All in all an excellent performance from him.

Yes, and when we beat them at FP in a sell-out cup tie, Fergie played the victim and complained about our physical play: classic projection from him. Watched Sportscene eventually and thought Robbo displayed very little class in his post-match comments, so I'm glad the draw annoyed him so much. Also, the BBC highlights package was typically poor: MFC's early miss and Gogic's header right at the end were completely omitted and both big incidents which caused delay and injury were not shown either. At least we have a break now to assess injuries and try get some more players back in contention for the Aberdeen game.

Really? Pretty bad to say that, given his side's cynical play throughout. There was a lot of concern from the home fans around me in the POD at the Munce injury, some of whom were critical of what they thought was a tardy response from the first aiders. Ironically, it looked to me that Psychovitti hurt his own player by taking out everyone in front of him on the touchline. He wouldn't have bullied Armstrong, that's for sure. The "Buddies" were the dirtiest I've seen at FP for a while and got away with too much early on from the referee. I wish they were closer to the relegation trap-door, frankly. If it's true we've got a bounce-game with them next week, I'd be concerned about further injuries. Anyone know what is the problem with Viking Armstrong?
-
Quite. I understand that many fans' views on our jersey depend to some extent on the one they first saw The 'Well wear but the Battenberg/Jester's Outfit, particularly with the counterchanged shorts (white ones might just have made it bearable) was an utter honker abominated by many fans. I still have its groovy predecessor in my cupboard, with all its great memories. I'm only saying this in case some blue-spectacle-framed hipster designer called Dork Spandrel or somesuch dares to even think about reheating the B/JO for next season. If so, the claymore's coming oot the thatch.

Yes, Bobby was master of the statuesque looking-with-surprise-at-the-ball-nestling-in-the -corner-of-the-net stance 😱.
-
Certainly, if it were possible, because if he were to go to Celtic I think he would be a bench warmer for a while and I don't think David Turnbull's experience at CP was beneficial for his development.
-
Yes, anything than Lennon signing for one of the OF. If he has to go and it's not to Lyon, maybe Mr Wimmer could facilitate a suitable German destination where he can play regularly and develop further.
-
Imagine if he ends up at Grayskull after a stunning three months with us 😱.........
-
Aaargh! Welcome to Controversy Corner! It is normally a Sampdoria-sandwich-style hoop but then as a confirmed Hoopist my eyes might be deceiving me 🤣.

"VfB Stuttgart meets Alloa Athletic": nicely put. It's clear from MW's post-match comments that he had a clear idea of how Rangers could be beaten tactically and planned accordingly. The players, to their credit, executed it. And Stuttgary play in a hoop. It's a sign ah tell ye!
-
You can tell that's a fake richt awa because they didnae hae screw-taps in the 17th. centuroid 🤣

Given that we have achieved back-to-back victories only once at Ibrox in more than 60-odd years, it got me thinking why? Surely the relative strengths of the two teams can't suddenly have narrowed to explain our recent wins? We've had a lot of pretty decent teams (much better than the present one) which continually came up short in that period against Rangers teams of varied ability . I always thought that even good managers like McGhee and McCall almost wrote off our matches against the OF and we just went through the motions in these fixtures. I feel that psychology/attitude must explain some of our abject performances at Ibrox: we were beaten before we started, irrespective of the relative strengths of the two teams. Which brings me to Mr Wimmer. I can't imagine that a visit to Castle Grayskull held many terrrors for a man who was used to playing away at Bayern Munich or Dortmund und so weiter in his spell at Stuttgart as assistant and then manager. So is the psychological aspect of "beaten before we started" a possible explanation for that shocking six decade statistic? I remember when Ian St. John took over as manager we immediately reversed a dire record at Celtic Park too because of his aggressive and positive mindset and it was great to see Pettigrew and Graham carve them up in away fixtures.

Wee Bazza: we're simply the best. Michael Wimmer: no, the wurst! Help ma boab, I've done a grizzly 😱!
-
We should remember that MW has had a lot of exposure to Bundesliga football both in Germany and Austria so we should expect him to be up to speed re structure, tactics, fitness regimes, set-plays, metrics etc. Conversely, I noticed some Rangers fan on social media saying even before this game that all he'd seen of Barry Ferguson when at Clyde was him shouting and swearing at his players. BF's "success" there, Kelty Hearts and Alloa suggest he is not the man for the job at Ibrox in the long term. Think we could be on to a winner with Wimmer. I notice none of our great Scottish churnalists and presstitutes seem aware of Wimmer's pedigree or noticed his potential.
