  1. Don't be a silly sossage. We'd better stop this before Grizzly gets started.
  2. Has to be King Kevin: he's in a rich Veen of form at the moment.....
  3. Older fans will remember we had a pinstripe nod to the original striped jersey (which predated the hoop) in the mid-90s: http://www.historicalkits.co.uk/Scottish_Football_League/Motherwell/Motherwell-change.htm Since we're talking of UBH, I think he compiled most of the information used in the above HFK page. Hope he is well. "Haste ye back!" indeed.
  4. Yep, to my eyes the white shorts accentuate our groovy colours: not, I suspect, a popular opinion but amber or claret shorts make either colour too predominant . And since we have no chance of our appearing in the later stages of a European tournament, no excuse not to have a proper hoop on a regular basis. Days of the wee numbers are gone but normal white ones over the hoop are perfectly good. It's not going to happen, though. If it's the jester outfit next season I'll be on the absinthe.
  5. I would keep it that way ☠️. Besides, you can't afford the air fares.
  6. Confession: I couldn't face another eye-bleeding season with Mr Alexander at the helm so I didn't renew this season, the first time in yonks (started watching 'Well in 1962/3, though not as a STH obvs. To my great surprise, on Christmas morning my wife presented me with a half-season ticket. I think she has a lover. P.S. I'm actually looking forward to next season so will renew once the private investigator gets back to me and I can attend to business.
  7. I would have to agree with that. Clubs don't want huffy types who might cause dissent or undermine the manager. KVV has actually impressed me recently in his interviews by both what he said about our club and his general super-confident attitude (typical of Dutch players).
  8. Ah-hoo, werewolves of London!
  9. Imagine being at a party between MJC and grzzlyg: pass the absinthe! Moanly jokin', dudes 🤣. Btw: did youse pure ken absinthe makes the heart grow fonder?
  10. Pretty much my thoughts too, especially the final paragraph. I know decent fans on both sides, as well as some absolute roasters, like those Rangers fans who subjected Tommy Coyne to the vilest abuse after his wife's suicide, which was simply appalling, like their behaviour here: The reaction to our going ahead was an extended riot which went totally unpunished by the SFA, of course. I could append a list of incidents in matches and with their fans which were unpleasant for me but I don't dwell on them too much, although THAT cup semi-final in the mid-seventies will always rankle. I went to a non-denominational primary school with just me, a Clyde and a Third Lanark supporter for company in an otherwise bluenose class, so didn't meet Celtic fans until after secondary. Apart form an unpleasant experience trapped amongst The Green Brigade while walking to FP from Airbles, I haven't had much to generate strong emotions in that direction, although I have become increasingly exasperated about complaints re masonic referees etc (to which I now normally mention penalties generated by dives by Sinclair and McGregor as counterbalance). Beyond any unfortunate personal experiences, I suspect those allergic to the union flag find Rangers fans more repugnant and those of a more ScotNat or republican strain might be more tolerant of the other side but in the end my loyalty to MFC overshadows all the above considerations. I just hope we play in a better jersey next season 🤣.
  11. Didn't know you had The Doric, weeyin 🤣.
  12. Yes, neither Stevie nor Wee Tommy would take any crapola from "Caesar". Here's a match in a similar vein: Some shocking tackles from Celtic, with Tommy Boyd to the fore.........
  13. Doesn't the article say, "Van Veen, now 31, is out of contract at the end of next season" though?
  14. I'd only give him a hard time for his haircut.
  15. Was it Slatts? Fairy Nuff. Thought KVV pointed at Spittal giving him credit for the pass but who cares? What a finish!
  16. Our defence was so deep it took an age before the lads caught up with KVV to congratulate him. Nice touch to see the lovely Sellick stewards get off their lardy arses to stand in his presence. Great pick-out from Spittal to unleash The Phenomenon. Could watch this on a loop all day.
  17. Not wishing to contradict SK but KVV is a very good example of a player with an ego in the most positive sense: great self-confidence, which many Dutch players have naturally. His goal today stemmed from a long clearance out right which might have ended up as just a corner for most attackers at best but look how he finished. Great credit to the manager for setting up in the best formation for our limited resources. The players seem to believe in him and a result like today can only bolster this.
  18. Great draw given the results at St Mirren and Tan Your Dice. I should listen to my cough mixture more often.
  19. I’ve tried expunging that memory but it’s still there: one of the lowest points I can recall supporting MFC, made worse by the fact that Pettigrew was fouled in the Rangers penalty box by Greig just a few minutes before Johnston’s dying swan act near the 18 yard box. And then the hailstorm came to make it worse. And let’s not forget their 20 minute pitch invasion in the 3-5 game a few seasons later either. Bitter, Moi? Just a wee tate…..
  20. I hear the lovely Hugh Keevins thinks it’ll be 4-0 by HT today. I can’t remember him saying anything positive about us in his long, goggle-eyed career.
  21. Hilarious: for some reason I ended up in the old enclosure for that night game (the only other time was a Texaco Cup-tie with Notts County) and laughed my Gove off at the defensive meltdown that evening. Oh dearie, dearie me 😂!
  22. Perhaps, but you can only play the team in front of you. We'd had a pretty shocking record at Celtic Park until the mid-70s, if my memory is correct, and so going there to see us win was brilliant. I wasn't thinking of the 80/90s. Those five-goal thriller games were in the mid-70s. I think our wins at CP began under the managership of Ian St John and continued for a few seasons. I haven't checked the records in 'Well Again but I think that's correct.
  23. From memory Ian Taylor scored from a free kick in that game. Loved Willie P's winner as he dragged Roddie MacDonald and Fat Pat McCluskey around the final third before neatly finishing in the far corner. IIRC Kenny D ballooned a great chance over the bar at the Taggart's End in the dying minutes: a wee shame for him soanitwuz. All particularly sweet since at half time I had had to endure the patronising "You're a good wee team really" patter from two Sellick fans in clerical garb in the main stand who had miraculously disappeared by the final whistle. We also in that period beat Celtic a good few times at Celtic Park, including the famous 2-3 "Chance of a lifetime for Pettigrew!" match (still avaiable on YT). "And it is THERE!"
  24. Looking back after all these years, the two jaw-dropping goals are Dougie's header and, of course, Colin's Exocet. I was just about to say to my pal beside me, "He's not going to hit it from there , is he?" when the ball arrowed high into the net: a stunning goal in any era. Loved the way Kirkie almost forced the Celtic players to shake at the end. McStay's face is a picture 😱.
  25. You should get your marching orders for that. My cough mixture tells me that we will get an unexpected point on Saturday.
