I agree the shape of that team is ok but we need to bite the bullet and have van veen up front. As much as he frustrates, when he’s not there I just do not see any spark or matchwinner in that team. We have nobody that can change a game. Not one player. Watt could do it and van veen can…. When he’s in the right frame of mind.

id rather see him play in the hope he can add a spark rather than shields who I cannot see as a player, he can charge about but if you look at the times he can’t hold the ball up and loses possession it’s just not acceptable.

Am I stating the obvious when I say he is suspended for this one?

So we will do more in one week than we've done in 4 months .... mmmmmm I think not. We are garbage its that simple. Teams don't need to try against us just be patient. If you look at all the goals we've conceded since Christmas the vast majority come down to basic errors that could be easily avoided. That's what frustrates me most team just don't need to work hard against us.

If these basic errors can be easily avoided I am hoping that is exactly what we will do over the next 3 games. COYW

I think perhaps a lot of the excitement of Europe was sullied for a lot of fans with our dismal showings under McCall ten years ago. After we’d done all the hard work getting there we whimpered out every time without having anything to shout about. Obviously there was a bit of novelty with the Panathinaikos tie in the Champions League and obviously they were a reasonably big name in football, but the games themselves were a bit of a non event. The same goes for the Europa ties against Levante in 2012 and Kuban in 2013 where we failed to score a goal and didn’t even look like we believed that we could do anything. And then of course there was the debacle that was the Stjarnan tie in 2014. Say no more.

I can’t speak for anyone else of course but that’s certainly how I see it. I can honestly count on one hand the number of European matches at Fir Park that I have actually enjoyed. Perhaps the wee run in 2010 under Craig Brown and the run in 2009, albeit that was played at Airdrie.

Personally, I think all those things are unimportant when we play a competitive tie with Borussia Dortmund. Then you get to see what playing at that level, fouling at that level, and bending the rules at that level, are all about. And I saw it with my son and my late brother at Fir Park.

I'd rather a proper preseason and give ourselves a reasonable chance of a positive start, instead of traveling to the arse end of nowhere to get beaten by absolute shite

Yes lets play Airdrie and Queens Park thats a proper pre-season.  Iwas 36 years old before we qualified for europe and every time in europe is to be coveted in my book.

Really? We did not concede a goal from 170 corners?  You might be right but without checking that’s a difficult stat for me to believe. I’m with Yodo on leave a man up the park. Of course I’m also a “put men on the post” proponent which the pros don’t seem to do anymore.

    I agree completely.

'Man on the post'! That's what I told my son when he was playing and I smiled the other week when I heard him telling his own son to do the same. Cant understand why the pros dont seem to do it anymore.

Aye especially defending a corner and leaving nobody up the park very McLean esk

So long as we end up winning the cup in a year or two I will be happy!

If I recall correctly he was offered a deal, told the club he wasn't signing it, COVID happened, and he signed the deal and returned it to the club. When the club laughed in his face and told him to bolt he ran to the media to say that we had reneged on the deal!

Imagine being kept out of the team by Liam Grimshaw!

Gordon kept us in it.....It was a friendly  ffs the result does not matter these matches are all about getting players game time, and having a look at the new faces brought into the squad.  Clarke brought Kelly into the squad as he obviously thought he was up to the standard required and then does not play him its a nonsense, over the 2 games he should have had some game time.

Friendly or not, Clarke will want to win. There werent many changes in his two teams from his best team. Dont get me wrong I was hoping Kelly would play too but I understand why he didnt.  ffs as you say.

Odd that neither Kelly or Clark were given debuts over the two fixtures. Either the manager holds such store in keeping the unbeaten run going and having some momentum and confidence going into key qualifying matches, though you wonder what two draws where we lose late goals to give up a winning position does for that, or he really just doesn't rate either option as a viable replacement for a 39 year old.

As steelboy has said, Gordon has kept us in it. While he plays like that you cannot change the goalie no matter what if you dont have to.

That could very well be true. I would like to think that some of those clubs were maybe interested when he made it clear he was leaving QPR, but that he preferred to come back to Scotland. Let's hope he signs an extension with us.

I would like to think that too but it doesnt necessarily make it so.

Really? You think you were wrong to want Alexander over Wright, who was sacked after less than a year with Kilmarnock, who he had taken to 5th in the Championship? Or over John Hughes who's currently manager of 9th in the Championship Dunfermline?

I think it depends on where the big offer comes from. He was sitting on what was most likely a nice contract down south at QPR which was set to run until June 2023 but chose to leave that behind and return to Scotland with us.

I have a feeling he may not be overly keen to return down south perhaps? It would be interesting to see how that plays out, but I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if he signs an extension with us. He seems to be enjoying his football here.

It may be that London doesn't appeal but there are plenty of other clubs more northerly, and closer to home, in England he may not knock back.

Now that everyone has calmed down and had a time to reflect there is no chance GA will be sacked and we really need to get behind the team starting against St Mirren and hope we get our win which might kick start our campaign again.

Given that his Dundee salary does not kick in until the Summer I find it disappointing that with a wee bit of forward financial planning we were not able/prepared to make him an offer that matched what was on the table from Dundee. We have a fair few out of contract in the summer and added to the Watt wage savings we will surely will have funds available.  Lamie has been far and away our best defender this season and his attitude has been commendable. I'm not convinced we will replace Lamie with a similar quality player at any less than we could have offered to convince him to stay.

Like many fans I am not convinced all is well behind the scenes and I suspect Lamie, O'Hara and Watt, jumping ship is not just about the cash on offer elsewhere. I also suspect that several others, and especially the creative players,  will opt to go elsewhere in the hope of being allowed to express themselves on the pitch.  As he is likely still to be in place, I dread to think about who Alexander will bring in to support his eye bleeding approach.

Hands up. I was delighted and excited when Alexander got the job ahead of the likes of Wright and Hughes. I was wrong. I went to my first Motherwell game in the mid 60's and have suffered some dreadful teams in that time. But this current situation is as poor as I can recall....even thinking back to the Malpas, Kampman and Hynd eras. Watching what is currently on offer is simply not enjoyable and as a ST Holder I am even struggling to convince myself to attend home games. Away games are simply no longer worth the effort or pain.

I suspect that Lamie, O'Hara and Watt jumping ship IS about the cash on offer elsewhere.

    We aren't.

We got some luck before Christmas, for instance the Ross County match where we were totally outplayed and still somehow won, versus now when things just aren't falling for us, for instance the Ross County match that was pretty even but we lost to a dodgy penalty.

It's not like we are being turned over every week.  OK, you can say a loss is a loss but we are losing 0-1 or 1-2 then getting a draw that maybe we should have won, then losing 0-1 or 1-2.

We are 11 league games without a win but we have never lost more than 2 in a row and the last 5 there has never been more than 1 goal in it.

We are not a million miles away from getting a result.  You can't go on losing narrowly forever but honestly, in the position we are in right now, people are over reacting.  I'm not saying anyone should be happy about things as they are but the level of furore is a bit off IMO.

My dad used to always say that a team who keeps losing closely by the odd goal is a team who are going to struggle against relegation. Which nowadays means the play-off spot too.

Some truth in that but Saint's first goal on Saturday was at least in part, down to tactics and its not for the first time. Irrespective of how how we set up, we always defend very narrowly with the predictable outcome. Not all down to poor full/wing backs making errors.

The amount of space we offer opposing forwards from our (lack of) left back presence is laughable. That goal against St J and also against Hibs  and various other examples. And another worrying fact is that it doesnt seem to matter who is playing left back. I think its coaching/management and duff players.

Absolutely frightening that SOD could have been the Scotland RB in an WC playoff game.

He was the right back in the euro finals against the host nation so why not in a world cup play off. I think he is a safer bet at this time than Paterson although the real talent is the young man from Italy.

Pleased for them both. Be nice to see them both get game time. But I would imagine Marshall and Gordon will get a game each.

I think Kelly is above Marshall in the pecking order and think both will shate a game at least.
