If the OF did manage to have themselves accepted into the English Premiership, who’s to say they would be successful. Plenty of big clubs in bigger cities than Glasgow are languishing in lower divisions. And the fans of the OF are just as likely to dwindle in that scenario, while a competitive, more open and winnable Scottish premier league might attract the younger generations in particular. Motherwell v Hibs for second or top spot and a European place might be a more interesting proposition than Rangers v Hull or Celtic v Middlesbrough for hee haw.

The thing is as far as the OF are concerned its not about a far bigger area than the city of Glasgow indeed other countries are involved too (for better or worse).

Not going to get into abuse, it’s just my opinion at the end of the day and it’s pretty much 50/50 with a lot of supporters. Mugabi and Roberts went in strong very early and I think that was a mistake especially when you know who the ref is. Yes the ref should not make a difference but we all know Collum has history of making these decisions and he’s not going anywhere. Watching the game back last night both pundits thought it a nailed on red and var would not have overturned it as it would not be seen as a blatent mistake. It is what it is now but we shot ourselves in the foot and threw the game away within the first minute and that’s what annoyed me yesterday, not Collum.

It is interesting that the commentators on BBC actually said during the game that Colum loves being centre stage.

Possibly the finest Well performance I've ever seen. The team was dead on its feet that night after a flu outbreak. Hibs got what they deserved that night. We asked for a postponement but their Chairman Tom Hart accused us of underhanded tactics and in effect cheating in trying to get the game called off despite having medical evidence.

Much better put than my response later. Spot on!

Is the third game when we apparently had a major illness problem in the squad , but it looks like only marinello that's missing. Just noticed that marinello scored. I vaguely remember crowd trouble that night.

That was the game when we had illness in the squad yes. Although it looks like we fielded a full team more or less you could see there were a lot of players dragging themselves about the pitch and were clearly suffering fluish stuff. They dug in so well that night.

I'm far from an advocate of the old firm, but if they upped sticks and buggered off so would the TV deal we have in place, along with a decent chunk of the income we make from them visiting each season.

While our league would be more competitive, it would certainly be less attractive to those outside of Scotland.

I think it was Jock Stein who said 'a 100 metres sprint with 8 grannies would be competitive but very low quality'

    Kelly

    Mugabi - Johansen - Lamie - McGinley

    Slattery - Donnelly - Shaw - Cornelius

    Van Veen - Shields

4-4-2 no chance! Also couldn't fit in Woolery but could fit in for shields but didn't think it fit the shape of a striker.

I would have Woolery on left in place of Cornelius, but that apart looks like a decent selection.

    You’re spot on.

It has been absolutely turgid for years and I do think a lot of the blame ultimately comes back to the board.

There is absolutely no vision at board level for the club on a footballing level - it’s crystal clear at the AGM’s.

Yes, Burrows puts a shift in and our social media is neat and tidy but when it comes to the direction of travel, we simply don’t have it.
No harm to the guys, but it’s a board of directors populated by old men with largely accountancy backgrounds that have neither the vision nor foresight to strategically plan for what we want to achieve in terms of product. If they don’t have it, we should be bringing in a director of football to ensure a top down vision or bottom up vision.
That lack of strategy at the top means that we come down to the whims of managers whom we entrust to provide the big vision and therefore you have phases like Robinson’s ‘throw enough lower league English shite at a wall’ or Alexander’s particular brand of eye bleed. Managers are there to facilitate the will of the club, not to determine the will; but that’s not the situation we have.

It means that we have season after season of turnaround - stop/start youth progression and a complete feeling of disillusion which manifests in what we see now. The atmosphere is dreadful and how could it not be? I, like others have said, found myself last season and this thinking for the first time ever in 30+ years - maybe I’ll give the game a swerve this week.

The league being as it is, means that it wouldn’t have taken much investment in January to have cantered to 4th but we didn’t. We sat on the record profits and rather than gaining a step on the rest of the league, we’re quite possibly looking at loosing near 600k in league money and the euro money that would’ve come next season. That decision again stems from a lack of footballing vision/ direction.

I totally agree with you on this. We are dragging ourselves down.

I’d go with 4-3-3 - Kelly, Mugabi, Sol, Lamie, Carroll, Ohara, Donnelly, Shaw, Woolery, KVV, Roberts.

I think ODonnell had a good game on Sunday and Mugabi had a nightmare against Charles Cook the last time against Ross County I would like to see ODonnell at right back. I agree with the rest of the team though.

Saved by the players he coached and helped develop? Sounds like a recommendation.

Really? It was them who were outstanding, not him. The first half of the year we were dreadfull - Turnbull was moved off the bench and Hastie was brought back from Alloa, if SR had such brilliant visionary and development skills why did he leave it to the eleventh hour? Especially in Turnbull's case who was clearly way above the level required.

He stayed with us a year, possibly two years too long imo.

I liked Robinson, he was a breath of fresh air in his first season after the awful era that was McGhee’s second spell and the Cup Final season was one of the most enjoyable we’ve had in the last decade.

His transfer business in the subsequent windows let him down badly though, albeit he was hamstrung by our scouting policy. Season 18/19 was eyebleedingly bad for the first part with us basically playing hoofball to a front line of Curtis Main and Conor Sammon, before he eventually brought Turnbull and Hastie into the side which ended up being the bright lights of that season.

Had he moved on in summer 2019 or to Hearts when linked in the Autumn of that year it would probably have been best for both parties. I know some will point to ‘a 3rd placed’ finish in 2020 but we were poor for the majority of that season and our form from the winter shutdown to the covid abandonment was dismal and it seemed like a case of who was less likely to cut our own throats between ourselves and Aberdeen as to who would get 3rd. As it was the season was stopped hours before we were due to play Aberdeen and we ended ‘finishing 3rd’ by default. The less said about our 2020 transfer business and form until he left, the better.

But all in all, Robinson is a good guy and I wish him well.

There was one season where he was saved by the performances of David Turnbull and Jake Hastie who were virtually unplayable.

I reckon this will be the team on Sunday

    Kelly

    O Donnell

    Mugabe

    Sondre

    Ojala

    Lamie

    Mcginley

    Carroll

    Donnelly

    Slattery

    Woolery

We might just manage a nil nil draw.

I would take out Woolery and put in O'Hara, if only we had Ray Farningham we might just snatch it (reminiscing!!!!!!)

Yes, we’ve done this in a few games, and it certainly puts everyone on edge. I can see both sides of this though… you can either say we’ve got away with it (such as on Saturday) but Alexander can argue that it’s generally (always?) worked.

Having said that, in a cup game… if Aberdeen had scored at the death, we’d have had to make more subs in extra time to give us more attacking options to try to win the game… or defend and hang on for penalties… so I thought it especially risky in the Cup.

Its an impossible call really, if you don't shore up the defensive side of things at the end and lose a goal you get criticised; if you do shore up the defensive side of things and dont lose a goal although its a dodgy time (like saturday) you get criticised. That's why managers get paid the big bucks.

I don't think we should be taking this mob lightly. As shite as they are, it still took a very good save from Kelly at the death to keep the victory. We still have to work harder than them and take our chances.

    Absolutely agree with this.

I'm not entirely sure about that. I'm a 37 year old man who doesn't have kids etc to consider so I accept my view is probably slightly skewed here, but I reckon we'd see a much bigger attendance if we were giving them a decent game on a regular basis instead of the almost guaranteed scudding.

I think it is a bit of both.

Tierney has potential but needs to be coached and used properly. I’m not confident that GA will do either.

Efford I agree doesn’t look up to it, early days or not and he’ll offer us no more than Seedorf or Hylton did. Another pointless signing.

    Too soon!

As much as I appreciate GA has done well for the club , I do think he’d be a pain in the arse as a gaffer .

our play mirrors him , very serious and lacks personality/flair .

Not surprised that  some of the senior pros got pissed off and moved on .

Remember that there was a real problem before with those very same senior pros influencing things above SR and control needed to be re-established in the dressing room. I think some like Gallagher, Polworth and posiibly Watt being examples of that.
