  1. Possibly Celtic fans who live in the Motherwell area?

Police have arrested 14 teenagers in connection with crowd trouble at last month's SPFL game between Motherwell and Celtic at Fir Park.

Six 16 year olds, five 15 year olds and three 14 year olds - all from the Motherwell area - were held, bringing the total number of arrests to 25.

They will be reported to the procurator fiscal and children's reporter.

During the match, smoke bombs, flares and fireworks were set off. There was also trouble in Motherwell town centre.

A reported £10,000 of damage was caused to seats in a section of Fir Park housing Celtic fans.

Following the match, Celtic suspended 128 fans from their games and relocated 250 season-ticket holders.

The club said it was "appalled" by the disorder and issued precautionary suspensions preventing fans from attending home and away matches.

The 250 season-ticket holders relocated were seated in the Green Brigade's corner of Celtic Park.

  2. Watched it on Alba last night and it looked like it was going wide. So yeah, OG for me too. Good win regardless though.

I think it was too close to call, was bending so could well have been hitting the target.

Sutton should definitely be credited for it.

  3. How did McFadden play?

Thought he played really well, definitely looking like he's getting back to the form he showed at the end of last season.

Looked like he took a knock in the second half though, hopefully nothing major, he played on for a bit after before being replaced by Anier.

  4. Enough about the ref, I thought he was mediocre and have seen much worse.

Their first penalty shout looked ball to hand but the second one did look to get played by Keith's arm at first viewing.

Agree with that, looked like a definite handball by Keith, we were lucky to get away with it I think.

  5. Just finished watching on Alba. While we were the better team I'd be lying if I said it was enjoyable viewing. Really feared we were going to concede in the 2nd half, we were hanging on a bit at the end.

At the end of the day though we picked up the 3 pts & kept a clean sheet. 6 wins on the trot is an amazing achievement, a massive well done to the players & management.

Got to add that big Gunner does give me the fear though, never sure what he's going to do next. Stevenson's cross came off the bar & back into play while he was still swinging on the bar!

To be fair to him though he did make a few decent saves as well.

  6. Not seeing any streams published for it yet, which is why I was going to wait.

I was thinking about that Likely Lads episode as I posted!

Have just been having a look myself & seems like it's a no go.

Like UBH & yourself, will now be switching off all communication devices & locking myself away for a couple of hours!

  7. Delighted Anier has signed, really impressed with his movement when I've seen him.

Great to get our business done & dusted early in the window, fully expect that to be it for us now unless another club come in to take McHugh on loan.

Hateley looks to get back on track with Poland trip

Tom Hateley has revealed how a glowing recommendation from former Motherwell team-mate Henrik Ojamaa convinced him to chase a move to Poland.

The 24-year-old is training with Slask Wroclaw this week following his release by Tranmere Rovers with a view to earning a permanent deal with the Ekstraklasa outfit. He could potentially join Ojamaa, of champions Legia Warsaw and Lech Poznan's Barry Douglas in Polish football if he impresses. And Hateley has been left in no doubt that it would be the right move after seeking advice from his old Fir Park pal.

He said: "I spoke to Henrik (Ojamaa) last week about it. I was good friends with him up at Motherwell - he did really well up there and won a move to Poland.

"He said nothing but good things about the football here and his recommendation was a big part of why I have come over. I am excited about what the next few days have in store - fingers crossed that something can happen.

"Henrik told me the pace of the game is slower in Poland than in Scotland or England. I like to have the ball and play technically, so hopefully the style here could suit me.

"I've heard good things about the club, I have been to the see the stadium and the training ground has great facilities."

The former Reading youngster joined Tranmere in September after ending his four-year spell at Motherwell last summer. However, his time in League One proved to be underwhelming, as he made just 10 appearances.

And, as Hateley looks to rejuvenate his career on the continent, he has been joined by a familiar face in Slask Wroclaw training.

Marco Paixao, who, along with his brother Flavio, was on the books of Motherwell's Lanarkshire rivals Hamilton, is enjoying a prolific debut season in Poland, scoring 10 goals in 16 games.

Hateley would love to replicate the impact made by his former foe.

He added: "I played against him (Paixao) when I was at Motherwell - he was at Hamilton at the time - and he was a very good player.

"He has obviously done really well to get his move over here and do well in the short time he has been at the club. If I can make anything like the impression he has then I will be more than happy with that."

Ransom not worth risk as Willie looks to cash in on youth

MOTHERWELL should not be held to ransom by Viking Stavanger over hitman Henri Anier.

That was the view of Fir Park icon Willie Pettigrew, who has watched the Estonian net seven times this season for the Steelmen during a loan spell which expires on January 16.

But as exclusively revealed in SportTimes on Saturday, Stavanger are looking for a fee from Well to pay out the balance of his contract.

Motherwell's greatest striker of the post-war era, Pettigrew is still working with the club's young strikers and he believes there is more than enough quality coming through the ranks to fill any void caused by the Estonian's potential departure.

He also says youth is the long-term solution for the club rather than short loan deals.

Pettigrew said: "Anier has done very well for Motherwell in recent weeks but the bottom line is that football is a business, and without the luxury of revenue coming from a run in either cup, the club must cut their cloth accordingly.

"Even if we do secure his services until the end of the season then Motherwell will be back in the same position as they are now when Anier moves on in the summer.

"If a deal can be done and it doesn't cost Motherwell anything extra then great.

"If not, then I think we have got to be looking at giving youth its chance because we have more than enough talent coming through the Youth Development centre.

"You look at say St Mirren or Dundee United, for instance, and they are both giving their kids a chance and they are reaping their rewards for that.

"I reckon we should be looking, in an ideal world, at having maybe around 60% of our first team home-reared.

"It is great to see young Craig Moore getting game time with the first team and you have to say that if Anier moves on then there is an opportunity for one of our own to gain vital first-team playing time.

"Lee Erwin would have given us another home-grown option, but sadly he will probably miss the remainder of the season through injury.

"But there are more good kids coming through at Under-19s and youth level. I have been lucky enough to work with some of them."

Although Motherwell's home game with Inverness was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch on Saturday, the Fir Park men still remain in the SPFL Premiership top three with a game in hand over second-placed Aberdeen.

Pettigrew believes manager Stuart McCall is due an enormous amount of credit for negotiating a form blip to string together five wins on the bounce to keep his team flying high.

The Seventies legend said: "Considering how tight his budget is, Stuart McCall has done a fantastic job at Motherwell.

"He had to contend with his biggest summer of change by a mile since he came to the club three years back, but now that the players he has brought in are settled, we are starting to see their quality.

"I like the lad Lionel Ainsworth as he has pace to burn and has really added an extra dimension to our play of late and, as he has shown, he can finish.

"I see no reason why we can't stay inside the top three until the end of the season."

Meanwhile, former Well right-back Tom Hateley could join Barry Douglas in Poland after going on trial at Slask Wroclaw.

The 24-year-old left Fir Park in the summer before a short stint at Tranmere.

  10. Rotherham's Lionel Ainsworth Wants Motherwell Stay

Lionel Ainsworth has pleaded with Rotherham United to allow him to remain on-loan with Motherwell.

The 26-year-old was speaking after his goal helped Stuart McCall's side to a 3-0 win over St Mirren.

"I hope that, with every power within myself, I can stay," said the Englishman, for whom it was a second goal in nine Motherwell appearances.

"I love the club, brilliant club, the lads are great, great staff, great management."

Ainsworth has been out on-loan nine times from six different clubs during his career and hopes to end a reputation as a football nomad.

McCall is also keen to retain the winger but is still waiting to hear what League One Rotherham's plans are for their player.

"I have not had any indications from them," said Ainsworth. "I am just playing for Motherwell at the moment and my focus is on them."

"I'd love to have some stability. I've been bought a few times and, if you want to play football, you go on loan and obviously it sticks."

"I've got hunger inside my belly to keep playing football as much as I can and, if I can do that with Motherwell in the future, that would be brilliant"

"But I've done well to be in the game as long as I have and there's a lot of players out there who are not playing any more.

So I've got hunger inside my belly to keep playing football as much as I can and, if I can do that with Motherwell in the future, that would be brilliant."

McCall has cited injury problems for being unable to give Ainsworth a consistent run in his starting line-up.

"You get little niggles and it is going to put you off, but in my head I knew that, once I was back fit and able to work hard and get in the team, hopefully it would go swimmingly," said the midfielder, who was substituted 15 minutes from the end against the Buddies.

"I know I was tiring near the end, but I think that was just testament to the shift I put in.

Obviously I've been wanting to play every game I can and because of the team selection I've had to bite the bullet and wait.

Fortunately, I got another chance and I was so happy to score the goal. It was a brilliant feeling."

Ainsworth was gushing in his praise of manager McCall: "He is a top man, a great manager, knows what he wants and knows what he can get from his players.

It is exciting to work under him. I'm enjoying it, I think it's brilliant and I've got a great respect for him and all the lads."
