  1. It certainly was. Moved on the dead wood and a number of the top earners. Drastically reduced the average age of the squad, recruited some power and pace, and pulled in some cash to balance to books and service the debt. Just need to keep winning now.
  2. The good thing about having a few guys like Grimshaw signing on 1yr deals is that manager can tell guys like Campbell "We want you to be taking that slot when Grimshaw moves on".
  3. If we could bring in a guy like Heneghan and move him on for 3 or 400k after a season, we'd be minted (by our standards).
  4. I think you need international clearance for any player that's playing in England, Wales or Ireland (or further afield, obviously).
  5. Could be. He certainly would have fitted the experienced central defender requirement.
  6. Peter Hartley signed a 2 year contract for Blackpool in June. Not saying it's impossible they will rip that up 6 weeks later, but seems unlikely.
  7. For sheer entertainment value on here, I hope it's someone currently out of contract that we don't sign until next Tuesday,
  8. I saw Stephen McManus in Asda buying some boot polish...
  9. I'm not even convinced Cadden wants to leave even if reasonable bid came in. He seems quite happy to be developing in the first team at Fir Park every week and biding his time for the right move. He's only 20, so no rush.
  10. Not from my perspective. Visited lots of grounds I'd never been to before, stood on the terraces with my good mates from school and re-ignited the rivalry with my Accies supporting mates. Was much better than all our miserable relegation battles.
  11. It took us 3 years to win it the first time around (for me) and it was still great fun. Much more entertaining than hovering around relegation for successive years. However, even if we lose a player or two this window, I don't think we will be relegated.
  12. Some of the best entertainment I had was when I watching our team in the First Division. However, our business model requires us to sell a player a year to pay off our debts and balance the books. If we didn't do that, we'd never have seen guys like Moult play for us. We're not going to end up cash-rich regardless. More a case of basic financial management.
  13. Nobody from the club said we were in for McGinn. If we do sign a new defender it's just as likely to be someone we haven't heard of. As for the Marvin cut, I'm sure we can work it out sooner ot later from the accounts that we have access to as Society members.
  14. When a player moves to England, there is a fairly complicated formula used to establish the development fee owed by the club that signs him. It's based on a few things, including how many years he spent at the parent club and what division the new club play in. The longer the player has been at the parent club and the higher the division the signing club play in, the bigger the development fee. So it's an educated guess on how much we can get for him, but we have Lee Erwin as a benchmark, so it's a pretty reasonable guess.
  15. Don't forget the timeshare he owned on Frankie Howerd's wig.
  16. Or "a 23 year old with the potential to develop" as they say in the professional coaching business. I always enjoy this time of year where fans who do nothing but slag off our players turn around and complain that we can't get big transfer fees for them.
  17. We picked him up from the Conference. I'm sure they feel the same way about us. Transfer fees in general don't make sense, but we are getting smarter with add-ons, and that is where we can get better value from a player.
  18. Or it's his brother casting multiple votes.
  19. Let the bidding war commence.
  20. If he'd come through our academy, 6-700k would be realistic due to development fees. Right now, however, 2-300k would be about right. I think we'll sell somebody this window, so might as well be him. Not because I don't like him as a player, but because he should be easier to replace.
  21. According to soccerbase, ZFA came on in the 76th minute against Panathinaikos.
  22. But if that goal had stood, the rest of the game would have been different. Hearts might have thrown more bodies up front and scored 2 more. So it's not that simple.
  23. Not to make excuses for them, but this week they were obviously using the Alba coverage for our game. And as much as I enjoy the Alba coverage - in fact I think it's much better than Sportscene - they don't put as many cameras at the games. So as far as the "goal" was concerned, there just wasn't any angle available that was worthy of discussion. Plus, as others have said, we won, so it didn't impact the result.
  24. Bowman looks a yard quicker this season. The chance he had in the first half was pure acceleration.
