  1. Any time any team in Scotland takes the opportunity to break the "good honest team" mould, I'm all for it. Whether it's Laszlo at Hearts, Ange at Celtic or ourselves with Wimmer. It doesn't always work out, but it's worth the risk to bring some new ideas into a too-often stale league.
  2. If they bring in another Biereth, I'm OK with that.
  3. High press, is relatively new, though. They didn't call it slow, passive, but the Spanish Tiki-Taka is much slower and less direct most of the time and was all the rage for a while. Then you have the counter attacking style that was (and still is) popular with many coaches. Again, not aggressive or front foot.
  4. Playing right backs as central defenders is as productive as playing goalies as number 10s.
  5. That also rules out Strathclyde Park.
  6. Fadinger sounded like a Miller replacement, but even if he is, we could do with 2 players that can fill that role.
  7. Like most players who leave us for a team in the same division, I hope they do well and I hope their team always finishes behind us. Here's hoping we can rebuild a less leaky central defence now.
  8. Until you've paid all the necessary tariffs, try this one
  9. I don't know what it's like now, but when I was at school we sometimes played there and I don't think it's unfair to say it had seen better days even then. Catering was tea from an urn and a sausage roll.
  10. Until we know what formations the new manager wants to play, I have no idea where we are well covered. Not everyone plays wing backs.
  11. I vote for Scooby-Doo and leave it to the interested reader to figure out for themselves.
  12. Credit to The Record journo who managed two (short) sentences on the new appointment before mentioning Rangers.
  13. Who exactly do you think we could have hired that would work out?
  14. I see he used to play in central defence, so fingers crossed there too.
  15. Well played, Motherwell. Well played (says every bookie in the country).
  16. The transfer window's closed right now and doesn't re-open until the 16th - thanks to the finagling of a short, early window to allow the World Club Cup teams to buy even more players before kickoff. Regardless, I'll be much happier to get a good manager at the end of June than an average one on Friday. We're in this for the long haul. If we're talking to currently employed managers (which our CEO hinted at), or bringing in someone who needs a work permit, that takes even longer.
  17. I know it was in the USL, but at Tampa, he had the highest xG and most touches in the oppositon box in the League. I expect coaches to be a bit more flexible these days and, to some extent, they tend to follow trends. The high pressing style is a more recent trend, as is the short passes out the box. 10 years ago most coaches were doing neither, but now almost all of them are doing the latter. Like most jobs, if you don't develop your own skills you'll get left behind.
  18. I might be misremembering, but I thought Neilson was in charge during the spell Hearts were subject to a signing embargo and his first stint in the Championship involved playing youngsters. I think he was also head of Hearts Academy at one point.
  19. Also Craig Brown and Mark McGhee. Agree about Wallace. Quite the contrast to Davie Hay from the previous season.
  20. It can certainly be a stepping stone - Liam Delap just got a big move from Ipswich to Chelsea after their recent insta-relegation. I just saw him going to a title contender in a European league. Although Sunderland has the potential to be successful if they can make it past the first season in the top flight. 10mill would be some fee though.
