  1. Only consolation is that when we won the Cup last time, we had never beaten Aberdeen in an SPL game at Pittodrie.
  2. It's difficult to win a cup and regardless of who you are, you need a slice of luck along the way. If you look back to our last success: - Stevie Kirk scored his direct free kick against Aberdeen when Wee Tommy had told him to go to the back post. - We could easily have lost against Morton at Cappielow and had to win the lottery of a penalty shootout - Took 2 bites of the cherry to beat Celtic, and were lucky to be only 1 goal down at half time in the replay - Were fortunate not to be at least 1 goal down (one off the post, one offside) in the final before we opened the scoring And that's just a few off the top of my head. That's not to say we didn't deserve to win it - but any one of those breaks going the other way and it could have been another hard luck story.
  3. Still amazes me how a team can go so deep into a match with zero shots on target.
  4. McGhee said Lucas is still injured and not quite ready to play. Hopefully he'll stay fit on his return.
  5. He is making strides. But in an earlier interview McGhee said they are still following the protocol for head injuries which means he can't play this year.
  6. Making good progress, but not expected to be fit to play until after January break.
  7. I missed the memo telling us we had to call fans who supported their team and enjoyed winning "happy clappers".
  8. Cheer up. An asteroid might wipe us out by then. If not, Trump may start a global nuclear war that will destroy civilization before they decide relegation.
  9. Of course it was McGhee's tactics and McGhee's lineup. It was also McGhee's idea to have double training on Tuesday. Lots of modern managers don't run training sessions. McGhee is more hands on than many.
  10. He's not one for facts and figures at his fingertips is Mr. McGhee.
  11. Aye, Ruddy on loan followed by Randolph signed up - both going on to the EPL - set a high bar for anyone trying to follow them.
  12. I complain about McGhee overthinking tactics sometimes, so I'll give him some credit today for contributing to Thistle being poor. He set out to nullify their 3-5-2 and it worked.
  13. Good day at the office that apparently moves us back into the top 6.
  14. Aye, sounds like one of those "internal matters" that ends up in players disappearing from view.
  15. Never believe anything McGhee says about injuries or transfers. He never gives anything away about either.
  16. It's a shame if Laing feels we are treating him poorly, as one thing we have done well at over recent years is looking after players. Laing spoke really highly of the way he was treated by the club during his loan and was one of the reasons he cited for joining us permanently. It does seem out of character for our club, though.
  17. Did you miss the part where McGhee said that the ambition is to bring the young players through and put us in a position where they will be winning every week? We can't have it both ways. If we are truly committed to a youth policy (which I am) we also need to accept inconsistent performances along the way. If it pays off, then it will be worth it. Hopefully a run of games will help us get back in the groove. Good to hear that our long term absentees are starting to return to fitness.
  18. 325 quid for a Forest Green Rovers Standard Season Ticket in their East Stand.
  19. Unless his mum needs to clean the basement.
  20. Given the signings we made, and some of McGhee's comments, I always assumed he just didn't rate Laing and was on the "to punt" list. I always liked the guy, but I guess with Kennedy on the way back, we have alternatives. Shame if he feels poorly treated, though.

    Dom Thomas

Not going out on loan has really hurt his progress.
  22. At the risk of attracting CMWellfan's wrath, that is bollocks. His brief is to not get relegated and to bring on young players. So far, he is doing both. Not to say there isn't huge room for improvement, but ditching him at this stage would be mental.
