Our office is closed Thu - Monday for the July 4th weekend, so I'll be at home trying to get an internet stream working.

Agreed. I think Boyle made a lot of mistakes early on in his tenure at Motherwell, albeit often with the right intentions. However, during the past 2 or 3 years he seems more willing to learn from his mistakes and seems to be keeping us on an even keel. I just hope the fans give Gannon some time to get things together on the squad front and not expect instant success.

The key phrase being "at the moment....." Firstly, try reading what I said. That list was just off the top of my head. Secondly, most players contract expire on 1st July, so there will be a lot more activity after that. Thirdly, I don't think for one second that even you believe none of our rivals will be selling over the summer. Fourthly, I don't think for one second that even you believe the new manager will be bringing in zero new players. Would it not be better seeing what we have in place at the start of the campaign? The ink's not dry on Gannon's contract, the start of the season is about 7 weeks away, and the new gaffer apparently has a list of players he's interested in for every single position in the team. Let's give the man a chance to sort things out.

Reply to what, my friend? I know the football in your neck of the woods very well. I lived in Gloucestershire for many years and followed the fortunes of the 2 Bristol teams as well as Swindon. I still follow much of the Championship now. Just because you don't like the fact that I classed your beloved team as an average Championship side, doesn't mean I'm wrong. Let's see how the league plays out shall we? I know Clarky should score more than your top scorer from last season (11 goals in all). Part of that is due to the dodgy defences. Again, you can dispute that, but a quick look at the stats backs me up. You also just need to look at how teams like WBA fare once they are promoted to see where their weaknesses lie. And as someone who also closely follows the fortunes of the Tractor Boys, I repeat that any team who can lose 6 to that bunch last season has major problems.

Aberdeen: Severin Hibs: Fletcher (headed for Burnley it seems), and probably Jones Falkirk: Holden, Higdon and most likely Cregg St. Mirren: Haining And that's just off the top of my head. I guarantee there is more than that, and will be a lot more to come. Accies will almost certainly lose one of McArthur and McCarthy, for example. And here's a thought. How about saving yir greetin' until after you see the squad we have to start our SPL campaign?

He did indeed. However, in a later interview I read, he said he'd be interested in Klimpl if he couldn't get Hughes.
-
Most of our best players in recent years have cost us nothing (or next to nothing), so I'm not too worried either way. Just looking forward to seeing who the new gaffer brings in.
-
Or it could mean it was the only way we could raise funds to be invested in the team.
-
Not necessarily. The wages/turnover ratio is just a standard measure that is used for comparison. If JB had dipped his hand into his pocket, it doesn't mean it would appear here.
-
That's not what I meant though. The England cricket team represents the cricketing bodies of England & Wales; not just England. Calling the team 'England' is like calling the 'British & Irish Lions' the 'British Lions'. The fact the Scottish players have played for them is due to their qualification procedures. The fact that Welsh players play for them is due to it being their national team.
-
That would be my guess. Typically, players' contracts expire at the end of June, so I imagine there will be some increase in activity next month. I do think with the uncertainty over TV money etc. north and south of the border, there will definitely be some good deals that can be made.
-
Probably not. Although to be fair, it would have been easier to judge if we had put out a team interested in getting out their own half.
-
Championship defences are generally mince. I think he would do just fine in that league.

Like all goods, if the top isn't "of merchantable quality" or "fit for purpose" then consumer law means you have the right to get a replacement. If that isn't possible, then you can get your money back. Of course, getting your money back doesn't compensate for the disappointment of not having the top, but at least you won't be out of pocket.

It's for the people that spent 3 years complaining that this kind of information was never communicated.
-
It will be an interesting "summer football" experiment.
-
That was an away game though (and in Inverurie in the middle of winter).

Boothroyd, Gannon, Steve Staunton and Laurie Sanchez.

Don't trust this man. He'll have spent all his money on blow and hookers by now !!! Jut kidding, I'd vouch for the guy.

Didn't realise there would be a quiz at the end or I would have studied last night instead of drinking. I understand Bristol City will see their friends over the Severn Bridge as evil rivals. However, they currently have a better footballing team. Clarky, like McCormack before him is only looking for one or two years at a club before either proving himself worthy of a step up to a better team, or coming back home. He won't care about the long term stability of team. As for Bristol City, as you say, they were 90 minutes from the Prem in 2007/08 and failed to make it. I know how difficult it is to get out of that league having followed it closely for many years. My guess is that they peaked that year, and are now headed for mid-table mediocrity for the next 2 or 3 seasons at least and the chairman will want to start seeing a return on his money (= selling players). Mostly, though, I think they are on the decline because the were stuffed 6 -0 by a very poor Ipswich team last season.

With Setanta going pear shaped north and south of the border, I think there will be plenty of players available for no transfer fee.

3 interviews are absolutely needed. And I hope the other 2 or 3 names on the shortlist were afforded the same courtesy. This is like hiring a CEO for your company and you need to be 100% sure you are getting the right man. Otherwise you are stuck with a duffer who has a contract too expensive to pay off if you sack him. At my company it typically takes 4 weeks - 3 months to fill a position. 2 weeks would be regarded as incredibly fast.
-
Not if we get relegated, no. Short term-ism is a big danger to all clubs at the moment. We need to get a squad in place and push for a top 6 place. That will be much more beneficial in the long run.

For me, the league is much more important this year than getting papped oot of the Europa in the 3rd qualifying round.
