Absolutely. I understand that there are positive financial implications for getting past the first round or two, but a large part of me still sees this as pre-season work. Of course, I'd much rather we win, but I'm still more interested in how we shape up for the start of the season proper.

"The other dick" could have offered him a 2 or 3 year contract if he wanted him to stay. However, he was too busy working on his own exit. McGhee never seemed to rate McLean (and neither did a lot of the fans on here) so I can see why he was keen to join a club where he was wanted.

When the guy that is offering you a contract walks out in the middle of his own contract, you're not going to generate much loyalty.

Does anybody even know if we definitely offered him a new deal? I remember reading that McGhee "was going to sit down with him at the end of the season" and also heard the one year contract thing. Didn't hear anything after the season finished though.

If it's true we only offered him a one year deal I'm not surprised he looked elsewhere.
