Any word on the injuries to Butcher,Casey and McGinn. To think these guys were solid end of last season . Good chance it’s gonna be Mugabi O’Donnell and Blaney and he took two of them of at HT . What a bloody state of affairs
-
Result apart which was brilliant there were other aspects of the game was pleasing . The most obvious one was the togetherness of the team helping each other out when we were under the cosh and covering back for each other when players got dragged out of position . If that’s anything to go by then we’re still a team playing for each other and the manager . Bireth was an example of that playing up front on his own never complaining or moaning about how he was played . Just doing what he was told to do and going about it without complaining . paton helped out Spencer and likewise Slattery with O’Donnell . Silly stuff with Butcher pulling the shirt but it all worked out in the end . On to next week with same togetherness and bravery on and off the ball and fingers crossed our first win in ages . As much as I though the Kettlewell game plan didn’t work v Hearts , hats off to him today . Spot on

I’ve been a supporter of Kettlewell and he saved us last season and deserves great credit for that . Start of this season we we’re decent although that came about as a result of a half time substitution brining on Paton into a four in midfield and one striker . The first chink in the Kettlewell regime came at St Mirren park in the cup. Think if I remember correctly we had the LB injured and he totally re jigged the back line and it didn’t work . Fast forward to today and that result was a 100% on kettlewell . Don’t know where to start but playing Spittal a kinda LWB was a shocker . The 3 striker thing was a complete disaster and that’s where the game was lost . IMO he completely overthinks things when he’s looking for solutions . It was as if he’s thinking I need to win today so let’s play 3 strikers . Then he changes it up . Bear hooked two up front and Spencer to RWB and Gent to LWB and guess what the long ball game calmed down and we started to get crosses in from Spittal Gent and Spencer . So as I say the blame for that loss today completely down to the manager but then again what would I or many fans know !!!. He has to to stop overanalysing and blethering so much about tactics as it’s clouding his judgement . Get it sorted Stuart as this is looking incredibly like the Alexander and Hammel ish fiascos

Kettlewell needs to make changes even although he’s limited in what he can do . The players have ability as they showed at start of season but when they hit problems there mental strength goes and it spreads through the team . If players can’t handle this then they need dropped . Magabiis the exception . Seems a lovely lad but pressure gets to him and them he becomes a liability and his decision making and positional sense goes out the window . Think up front the best combination would be Bireth and Obika (remember him) . The remaining strikers mmmmmm not so sure tbh . Finally was that actually Slattery last night . Tremendous at start of season to last night .(WTF)

Gutted to have lost the game yesterday particularly the manner of it . Switched off in the final attack of the game and it’s cost us a point . However looking at the place we’re at with this team I think we might be on to something albeit early days . Organisationally we are much better and play as a unit . Its decent on the eye and defence and midfield are decent . Up front we need to improve but I’ll judge that when we’ve got injured strikers back . Kettlewell has to be congratulated for his work with the players as after St Johnstone and Raith Rovers games last season we were absolutely atrocious as a team with no spirit and not playing as a team with any confidence . So yeah disappointing to loose 3 on the bounce but the difference is night and day since he’s taken over
-
I’ve been pleasantly surprised how well Kettlewell has done . He took over a complete shambles of a team both how they played and the obvious lack of team spirit and confidence . Nobody could have envisaged how he actually turned it round . Other thing I like about him is his ability to realise and accept when he gets it wrong /sees its not working and changes it and finds another way . The way he’s managed to get rid of some of the players by being honest with them about there playing chances has been impressive . It’s been a total cull and he’s done it in a professional way (Efford maybe not so much ) I think we might have a decent manager on our hands and if given time and PATIENCE from fans and board then given a reasonable amount of time he will defo improve us . Probably needs another couple of windows but I think he has a clear plan of how he wants things to pan out . Hopefully he’ll get the time to do it as he started with a low bar and I feel he deserves a chance to build his own team and put his stamp on it . To summarise although he’s not in the door that long I think he GETS the club and has bought into the job quicker than I thought he would . For me a good fit for our club , a decent bloke by all accounts , firm but fair and most importantly the players seem to have bought into him unlike the previous two incumbants

Here here . Absolute attention seeking rockets . Good luck to the lad . Hope it goes well for him and us as that’s what we all want …….. correct ?

Cup game Queen of the South v Motherwell 18/07/2023
Mintymac replied to SteelmaninOZ's topic in Club Chat
The Mugabi /Lamie partnership just doesn’t work . This is feeding into the team in general compared to the Casey /Butcher partnership where it felt we had a good solid foundation . Think we’ve given them umpteen chances to prove they can do it but time and time again over the last few seasons the combination doesn’t work . Persevering with them imo will cost us big time this season -
If Luton are promoted today do we benefit by way of add-ons due to the Alan Campbell transfer ….. or is that just wishful thinking on my part . Can’t remember what Burrows said post move .
-
So after Jim Goodwin saying before he took the United job that he decided not to apply for another job in the League at the time who’s team didn’t have a manager (wonder who that team was ?) as he thought they were unsaveable . Well there you go Jim . Oh Jim looks like you’ve set yourself up there for a bit of stick . Schoolboy error Jim TBH I kinda thought the same way at the time ……. But that doesn’t really matter as I’m not the United manager Just putting it out there like .
-
If it’s of no detriment to the club financially why would we not have him in for a preseason . Can’t see why some people wouldn’t think that is worth a gamble . Doesn’t work out …. Ok move on . But if it does happy days . Its not something that I’m getting over exited about either way but wouldn’t completely Bin the idea . No reason to .

I’d have Louis Moult back if some kind of deal could be built in to the contract to protect the club . I saw enough of him to be convinced in games at tynecastle and McDermott parks that even not fully fit he was class . what’s the harm in getting him in for preseason ,medical etc and take it from there . Surely that has to be worth doing as we’ll have loads of trialists in during that period and he could be properly assessed by our physios as to whether he can cope with the demands of first team football in SPFL If we don’t do it then sure as hell other teams around us will . If it doesn’t work no harm done but if it does ……… we have a player . No brainier for me to at least get him up here . Im sure a contract could be drawn up to suit both parties and after reading that herald article he’s a decent bloke and wouldn’t be hard to deal with .

Phoned office today . I’m 63 and they confirmed I still get the concessions for over sixty as I’m existing season ticket holder so all good .
-
I can understand we don’t get to here about all the details of the interviews/negotiations etc etc but thought it would be right as a fan run club to at least let us know where we are in the process with a carefully worded statement . The silence only leads to speculation amongst the fans . Would have thought the board would be happy to engage with the fans without giving us exclusives. Only really looking to see where we are in the process . Over to you Chairman/board
-
Does anyone know what is happening with the CEO position . Talk was Mark McGhee . Unless he’s working his notice it’s all gone a bit quiet . You’d think Well Society board or Chairman would give us an update . Not looking for an exclusive but surely an update on how it’s gone or how the process is going would be a decent shout …………… unless I’m missing something
-
Would be a blow if we lost him at end of season . Probably get a few quid tbf .Can’t see us standing in his way if a can’t refuse offer came in . Probably one more pay day left in him and his agent will be well aware his stock has risen in last few months .
-
How many goals does he need to beat Higdons record for goals scored in a season . It must be close
-
KVV was tremendous yesterday but just outdone by Liam Kelly . He was back to his best yesterday . Some tremendous saves. Loved his wee impersonation of someone who was getting his broken leg reset without anaesthetic . .Brilliant watching the seeth he created around the stadium . It was comedy gold

Feels a bit like a watershed moment as far as AGM ‘s go. It does appear that the current model can’t balance the books moving forward . However if I remember correctly there wasn’t many options available that would have been good for the club at the time of the Well Society inception and thinking back was the only viable option at that time however I stand to be corrected if that’s not the case . Im a fully paid up member of the well society and season ticket holder and joined the society almost right away . That said I always had a nagging feeling that it was always going to be difficult to sustain over a long period and was heavily dependent on players sales cup runs etc and that the fan base we have wasn’t large enough . I remember it being passed around that we budget for 10th place and no cup runs and at least one player sale in order for us to break even which I always thought was a sensible approach . Not having been at the AGM is the board now saying that model is outdated and is now causing shortfalls going forward . If so then that is a worrying position and hence the reason we are at a watershed moment for the club . I would like to think this is a priority for the board to close that shortfall by whatever means they see appropriate without putting the clubs future in jeopardy. Also we need to look far and wide as I’m sure there must be someone out there who reads our story and ethos and would like to put there name to it . But that person must be the RIGHT person

What’s the situation with Josh Morris .Has he been released or is he injured .

Regarding tomorrow’s postponement due to freezing /burst pipes . Am I missing something here? Drain the system and or lag the pipes? Sounds fairly , simple surely a bit of proactive work rather than reactive might have ensured the game went ahead . Dont know the in and outs of it all but it wasn’t as if we didn’t now there was an artic blast coming down the line . Not trying to be over critical on any individual just pragmatic, however surely the conversation had to have taken place when we found out the weather was changing for the worse. Stand to be corrected if I’m off piste

Massive congratulations to Stevie Hammel .Time now to get fully behind him . If we can get through this season then I’m excited to see him develop his medium to long term approach . Feels like we’ve got our club back in good hands . The last 18 months or so felt like the oxygen was getting sucked out of the place . It’s a tough gig as I’m sure he’s fully aware but I’m 100% behind him . Best of luck Stevie .
-
As disappointing as the result was yesterday I’m still in the Hammy camp for the job . He played what he had yesterday but I’m convinced that is not how his team would play should he be successful in getting the job . He also tried to change things that weren’t working at half time so he was well aware of the predicament he was facing . He played what was available but there are lads playing in that team who I’m 100% sure he knows aren’t good enough to play for Motherwell . Yeah it’s a gamble as he’s not got managerial experience (whatever that means) but I think he knows what’s needed and if supported with funding I think he’d be fine . Gamble ? Yes and it’ll only work if he gets players in he needs and hopefully that discussion will be happening this week with the board . On the flip side however if no funding is available or limited funding then it’s not a job I’d like to see him take on as the current squad could get us relegated as Hammy would be the fall guy . If Hammy thinks he knows what’s needed then come on board support him .
-
The strange thing for me is that it was so blatantly obvious what we needed for this season . A left back ,a dominant centre half ,a defensive anchor , winger or wingers and a centre forward who plays in the box . . That’s five /six players in my reckoning that would need to come in and hit the ground running . As painful as it was to watch yesterday Hammy must have learned so much during that 90 mins . it was glaringly obvious . 1.Mugabi can’t be trusted , could have been sent off Again in his first tackle . 2.McGuire is never a defensive midfielder and his passing is shocking . Gogic or someone of that nature required to play that role . 3.Left back needed ASAP . Obviously 4. Centre forward that will play centre forward . Not left or right or chasing back to middle of park . 5: Minimum of one winger but preferably two who can create chances and get us up the park . I’m sure Hammy if he gets the job must/does know what is needed and the budget will dictate but not bringing in the players we need will cost us a lot more as relegation is a real threat this season with the current squad . Massive decisions for the board this week as it could determine or league status going forward . Think we’re at a watershed moment for our club and hopefully the board recognise the seriousness and act bravely

I see that a lot of the people on here are saying that the new signing could take the left sided position in the team where Goss currently plays but it did cross my mind that Morris might be a Watt replacement who could play in front of Goss
