  1. Would be a blow if we lost him at end of season . Probably get a few quid tbf .Can’t see us standing in his way if a can’t refuse offer came in . Probably one more pay day left in him and his agent will be well aware his stock has risen in last few months .
  2. How many goals does he need to beat Higdons record for goals scored in a season . It must be close
  3. KVV was tremendous yesterday but just outdone by Liam Kelly . He was back to his best yesterday . Some tremendous saves. Loved his wee impersonation of someone who was getting his broken leg reset without anaesthetic . .Brilliant watching the seeth he created around the stadium . It was comedy gold
  4. Feels a bit like a watershed moment as far as AGM ‘s go. It does appear that the current model can’t balance the books moving forward . However if I remember correctly there wasn’t many options available that would have been good for the club at the time of the Well Society inception and thinking back was the only viable option at that time however I stand to be corrected if that’s not the case . Im a fully paid up member of the well society and season ticket holder and joined the society almost right away . That said I always had a nagging feeling that it was always going to be difficult to sustain over a long period and was heavily dependent on players sales cup runs etc and that the fan base we have wasn’t large enough . I remember it being passed around that we budget for 10th place and no cup runs and at least one player sale in order for us to break even which I always thought was a sensible approach . Not having been at the AGM is the board now saying that model is outdated and is now causing shortfalls going forward . If so then that is a worrying position and hence the reason we are at a watershed moment for the club . I would like to think this is a priority for the board to close that shortfall by whatever means they see appropriate without putting the clubs future in jeopardy. Also we need to look far and wide as I’m sure there must be someone out there who reads our story and ethos and would like to put there name to it . But that person must be the RIGHT person
  5. What’s the situation with Josh Morris .Has he been released or is he injured .
  6. Regarding tomorrow’s postponement due to freezing /burst pipes . Am I missing something here? Drain the system and or lag the pipes? Sounds fairly , simple surely a bit of proactive work rather than reactive might have ensured the game went ahead . Dont know the in and outs of it all but it wasn’t as if we didn’t now there was an artic blast coming down the line . Not trying to be over critical on any individual just pragmatic, however surely the conversation had to have taken place when we found out the weather was changing for the worse. Stand to be corrected if I’m off piste
  7. Massive congratulations to Stevie Hammel .Time now to get fully behind him . If we can get through this season then I’m excited to see him develop his medium to long term approach . Feels like we’ve got our club back in good hands . The last 18 months or so felt like the oxygen was getting sucked out of the place . It’s a tough gig as I’m sure he’s fully aware but I’m 100% behind him . Best of luck Stevie .
  8. As disappointing as the result was yesterday I’m still in the Hammy camp for the job . He played what he had yesterday but I’m convinced that is not how his team would play should he be successful in getting the job . He also tried to change things that weren’t working at half time so he was well aware of the predicament he was facing . He played what was available but there are lads playing in that team who I’m 100% sure he knows aren’t good enough to play for Motherwell . Yeah it’s a gamble as he’s not got managerial experience (whatever that means) but I think he knows what’s needed and if supported with funding I think he’d be fine . Gamble ? Yes and it’ll only work if he gets players in he needs and hopefully that discussion will be happening this week with the board . On the flip side however if no funding is available or limited funding then it’s not a job I’d like to see him take on as the current squad could get us relegated as Hammy would be the fall guy . If Hammy thinks he knows what’s needed then come on board support him .
  9. The strange thing for me is that it was so blatantly obvious what we needed for this season . A left back ,a dominant centre half ,a defensive anchor , winger or wingers and a centre forward who plays in the box . . That’s five /six players in my reckoning that would need to come in and hit the ground running . As painful as it was to watch yesterday Hammy must have learned so much during that 90 mins . it was glaringly obvious . 1.Mugabi can’t be trusted , could have been sent off Again in his first tackle . 2.McGuire is never a defensive midfielder and his passing is shocking . Gogic or someone of that nature required to play that role . 3.Left back needed ASAP . Obviously 4. Centre forward that will play centre forward . Not left or right or chasing back to middle of park . 5: Minimum of one winger but preferably two who can create chances and get us up the park . I’m sure Hammy if he gets the job must/does know what is needed and the budget will dictate but not bringing in the players we need will cost us a lot more as relegation is a real threat this season with the current squad . Massive decisions for the board this week as it could determine or league status going forward . Think we’re at a watershed moment for our club and hopefully the board recognise the seriousness and act bravely
  10. I see that a lot of the people on here are saying that the new signing could take the left sided position in the team where Goss currently plays but it did cross my mind that Morris might be a Watt replacement who could play in front of Goss
  11. Great post grumpy. Similar to yourself I’ve been watching the Well since 1967 and also like you I look forward to every season with excitement and hope . And it’s that hope that it might be our season never leaves you and hopefully never will . One thing I find bizarre is judging a player before I actually see him play in a Well jersey. There’s plenty time for that over the whole season . I for one welcome anyone who signs for us and like to wish him the best both for himself and also the club . So this prejudging players/writing them off /not good enough gets a bit tedious . Anyway it’s a forum and everyone’s entitled to there opinion as they say . It takes all types , both informed and the controversial. But I’m firmly in your camp mate . Us old guys have seen some amount of players come and go and yes there have been some roasters . But at least give them a chance to be roasters before you start judging them . Here’s to a good season Well fans . Don’t let the dark clouds out there get you down . COYW
  12. Looking at the current squad pre European games this must be the first time we’ve actually gone into a new season and European game with a relatively settled squad . I say squad as we need a few quality bodies in to supplement existing group and also provide competition for places . Most seasons when we’re in Europe the team is unrecognisable from the previous season . So with say 4-5 quality players and not as much disruption we might be a bit more settled . Ive felt that in many of the previous European games the team that got us there and usually then splits up we’re better than the team that actually played in the tournament .
  13. Yeah that’s makes sense . So looks like only way 5th place won’t get into Europe is if Hibs win the cup and take the Europa place . All to play for
  14. If either of the old firm win the cup does that give a space to the team that finishes 5th in the league a crack in Europe . I’m sure there’s two champions league spots one Europa and two Europa conference spots . Stand to be corrected . Anyone in the know ?
  15. Absolutely delighted that we’ve managed to get a top six finish . That was a brutal watch today but the important thing for me was we kept going . As a Well fan I’m delighted as it keeps the season from dying and still got something to play for . Also I’m sure the board will be happy with the money so a win win However this has been a difficult watch this season and for me not enough football being played ironically onthe best surface we’ve ever had at FP . For me looking ahead to next season we need to play more football on the deck and need better crosses /delivery from the wings . Also need to address the defence as it looks leaky .Anyway that’s not for tonight . Im of to celebrate with a wee drink and toast to my team . The Well . We did it ,not sure how ,but right now I don’t give a feck .
  16. Very sad news about Kirky Lawson . Was a big favourite with the fans back in the day . Remember him from playing in the early days of the Texaco cup RIP Kirky
  17. It feels very similar to the Maurice Malpas season . Is there anyone out there who can say this season has been an enjoyable watch. Any results we’ve had have been grounded out which is fine when your going through a rough patch but it has been like this for the whole season.I can see people staying away from the remaining games but the real danger is that the fans are not getting entertained and this will have an impact on ST sales . There’s a few people I’ve spoke to who won’t be renewing to watch the same again next season . Will I renew ? Not so sure now tbh as not enjoying it at all . As I said earlier same kind of feeling we had when Malpas was in charge . Seriously how the board are watching this closely and act before it’s too late . Tbh I have trust in the board and would be surprised if there not watching the events carefully . If we get beat at home in the next game I’ve got a feeling the fans patience will finally runout . That’s never a nice scenario but can see it happening with the call for Alexander to go
  18. He seems a decent honest bloke but as a manager of our club then not for me . The football is so so bad . The fear for me is if he stays then next season we would probably be one of the favourites to go down . Also the negativity and lack of football will have an impact on ST for next season . Surely we’ve got to seriously look at this situation. Give Las the job and allow him to bring in his own men till end of the season . As fans were surely entitled to watch a better standard of football than this irrespective of whether we win loose or draw. It’s a truly awful watch
  19. After watching today more than ever I’m convinced we need a new defence . Mugabi seems to get away with being a fans favourite . As a player particularly when exposed in the full back position he is a liability. Never a right back and never will be . McGinley also needs replaced . Average at best on a good day but always a mistake in him . Lastly Obama . Where do you start with him . Good in the air but so slow on the deck . Next season two new wing backs and a decent centre half please . Would be happy to give the young lad Max Johnston a chance as well if he’s still at the club . Would also have been happy to keep Lamie but that’s gone . Strange to here some giving it to O’Donnell when things go wrong yet Mugabi gets cult status . Strange old game
  20. A very hard watch indeed . The quality of football was shocking . What the manager and assistant are talking about on the touch line is baffling . High punts up to the strikers and try and win the second ball off it . What is there to actually talk about. This is not entertaining whatsoever . And the fans now it. I’ve no evidence to base this on but what decent player would want to play in a game like that . This type of football is sucking the life out the support nearly as much as Alexander’s pre and post match interviews. Looking to next season I think we could be in real trouble if this continues . If he serves this garbage up next year I don’t think many people will be going . We cannot be fooled that we can still qualify for Europe cup semis etc etc . That’s painting over the cracks stuff . Was really looking forward to Alexander’s appointment at the time and fully supported it,but as they say he’s sucking the oxygen out the room
  21. McGinley is a liability at left back . Seems he can’t concentrate for 90 minutes . Carroll needs to start on Saturday but long term decent LB required .
  22. Left back required. McGinley is tuned to the moon. Carrol must start in place of him surely on Saturday . Need a solid no nonsense left back that can concentrate for the whole game
  23. Difficult situation for the club this . But in Burrows ,McMahon etc, the board I’m sure they’ll do what’s best for the clubs interests and by default the fans also . Don’t think we need a poisonous, divided support on this matter but at the same time I don’t think that would really bother Watt . Should we let him go to our nearest rivals now……. Not for me . Could cost us money in league placings and possibly even European spot . So for me he stays with us trains with us and moves in the summer . But down the pecking order re appearances if even in the match squad . It looks to me that it was felt among the support he was moving anyway but this situation could have been avoided . However one thing Tony if your reading this . What was all the badge hugging ,jumping up on the wall after scoring etc all about . Looks a bit engineered to me . Poor stuff . You don’t try and take the piss out your on support
  24. Bit random but what’s the score re Cedric Kipre . Are we owed a fee if he moves on . He moved out on loan then but my thinking is he moved back to WBA and reclaimed his place. It’s been a while and I’m sure somebody has addressed it in previous chats . Just can’t remember
  25. I’m also happy to go with the managers decision and that why I’m happy he’s benched him . Tony has the right to choose ……… but so does the manager
