Would prefer not to see him go right now when its clear Miller will be away. But I guess we cant be too sniffy about any reasonable offer that comes in for any of our players. Quite pleased that we have a few right now that could command a fee with Slattery and Maswanhise being the other 2 obvious ones. Not the Miller millions, but as a club this is our business model and we need to roll with it. The timing would make things a little trickier for the new manager though as he tries to assemble his squad for the new season.

Undoubtedly. There is no way Alexander phones up a journo after this length of time and begs to be given column inches to get something off his chest. The journo has clearly taken the SK line and decided to try and dig some dirt. Of course GA could have said, "thats ancient history, I have nothing to say" and clearly didnt, taking the opportunity to have a go, but really? Who cares......

Thats very nice. Wouldnt be upset with that at all. Petrol blue would probably be more in keeping with our previous efforts, but not sure how historically accurate they really were. Off course the sponsor is gonna spoil it anyway, so........πππ

No such thing as an average Joe in my humble opinion! πππ

Stama has at least shown he has the talent/ability to score goals at our level. Whether he can stay fit long enough to prove that remains to be seen. I still hold out some hope for him, as he could still be a player that we can develop and sell on.
-
I dont disagree. I would include Stuparevic in that unless he has had an epiphany and realises he needs to back up his talent with hard work. Much will depend on when they are fir to return to training, when the window is due to open and whether we can engineer moves for them taking into account our contractual obligatikns to them.
-
I dont think you need to apologise at all. Always interested to see others thoughts on these matters. You may be raising something others hadnt considered.
-
Seddon > Thompson. Only issue was his ability to stay fit. I wouldnt be offering Thompson a new contract. Good athlete, but not a good enough footballer, even at our level. Paton and Davor Im cool with. Letting Moses go also makes sense. He would have been a good impact sub, but with Robinson, Nicholson and Stuparevic all injured we need a couple players who can start games. The others can fill the bench if they get fit.
-
We definitely need a solid DMF. Whether thats Sylla or someone else, Im not overly bothered. But he has always looked a bit of a "unit" whenever we played them. Always thought that would end up being Wee Al's settled position. Not sure why he was always seen as a box to box player. With the players due back in today, hopefully we will get some more movement on contracts soon.

I agree. Its good that they are bringing in some structure, where previously there had been none. Being a member of the Well Society should come with it certain rules and guarantees. It shouldnt just be money disappearing into a bottomless pit at the whims of an Executive Board that no one voted for. I would have liked a little more detail in respect of what certain aspects of the consultation meant, but I guess some if wont be known until its played out and we see how things are operating. Hopefully at that stage changes can be made to anything that isnt sitting right. I think its another step in the right direction and as long as those on the Society Board keep operating in the present consultative manner, then they will maintain my wholehearted support.

Exactly. 3 or 4 quality signings to sprinkle some stardust on what is, on the face of it, a mostly solid if unremarkable squad. More Spittal's less Paton's & Davor's.
-
Not sure we were watching the same guy. He was pretty much our best player until he got the first injury. Not that he had much competition. I agree that there remains a doubt over how much actual football he will be able to play this season but I wouldnt be writing him off just yet. Even in a pressing team, centre backs dont have to do as much running to close down.
-
If we play a 4 at the back you are probably right in that we dont really need any extra defenders. If we want to play 3 we probably need one thats better than Balmer to ensure he remains a squad player. We probably want that flexibility as it would also allow us to deploy McGhee elsewhere if required. My reading of Fadinger is that he is more of a Spittal type replacement than Miller. With him and Slattery (if we can keep him) together with Wells, Ross and Sparrow we appear to have some decent attacking mid options. Still need the Miller replacement and if we can get Sylla that would be grand.

I liked Blaney. Decent footballer. But positional sense not good enough and prone to the odd howler. Probably too nice to be a defender in the SPL. Wish him well. Just not too well......
-
Fire in. Talented enough footballer, but doesnt have the physical attributes required to be successful in the top league in Scotland (imho).
-
Aye, sorry, I missed that it was specifically wing backs. I would hope that the new manager would come in, see what he has got and go feom there. The squad is currently more suited to 4 at the back, but I would suggest we need a bit more pace in midfield and forward areas to supllement what is there.
-
Id be happy enough if we sign Seddon as first pick and Wilson as back up. Im not sure we can afford to carry 3 on that side? Not sure if McGhee can cover that side. It was said that he was a good utility player in a number of positions albeit more right sided.
-
That would be very nice. Especially without a sponsor! π
-
Robinson did his achilles which are notoriously difficult to come back from. The earliest prognosis was September but thats without any preseason. We will be lucky to see him this side of Xmas if at all. Nicholson just keeps breaking down. He has had surgery to try and fix the latest in a long line of injuries. I wouldnt be pinning my hopes on him featuring any time soon either. Best to write them off and be pleasantly susprised if they contribute anything. But we cant leave ourselves short of numbers. Look what happened last season!
-
They all have long term injuries.....
-
I think we need to write off Nicholson, Robinson and Stuparevic from the squad. They are unlikely to contribute anything this season. Miller will obviously also be gone at some point. That leaves us Oxborough, Ward SOD, Koutroumbis, McGinn, Balmer, Wilson, McGhee Sparrow, Halliday, Slattery, Fadinger, Wells, Ross Stama, Maswanhise Of those out of contract, I think the only one Id try to keep is Seddon and at a push Paton. Thats a squad of 18 at present, which I would say leaves us room for at least 4 signings to improve the quality available for the starting 11 and resign some of the existing squad to places on the bench. If Sylla is one of those, I think we need a centre half, attacking midfielder, and a striker (2 would be nice).

Just got it. I wont spoil the fun! πππ

Ok. I obviously need to think harder! πππ
