Having watched Lowry's highlights reel, he definitely has the look of a Slattery type player. Very comfortable on the ball, difficult to dispossess, can pick a pass and takes a good free kick / penalty. If he can resurrect that kind of form on a regular basis, Im all in.

Havnar B贸ltfelag vs Motherwell (30/7) Discussion

I actually wonder if Shane Blaney wouldnt have been a good fit for this type of Motherwell side? Injuries aside, he always looked comfortable with the ball at his feet. It was the physicality and defending his box I always felt he struggled with. Not suggesting we go bring him back, but if SOD, McGinn and Koutroumbis can all look good at centre half in this kind of set up, Im sure others could too. -
Will wait until I see how he performs on the pitch before passing judgement, but on the face of it seems like a decent short term fix in midfield. Not a great fan of loan players, particularly if it benefits a club in our league that is a direct opponent. However, he is coming from outwith and in a difficult to fill position, so if a permanent signing of the required standard isnt available right now, I could get on board with it. Hope the rumours about attitude are just a load of shite and the boy can resurrect his career with some stellar performances and a bucketload of goals!

Its certainly not our model to be fair. Re-sale value is usually important to us, especially if we are paying a fee for someone. However, with the churn of this seasons squad and the profit already banked, could we be looking at just getting someone tried and tested in that will do a job and stay for 2/3 seasons?

Well, with respect, I dont think Falkirk are selling him for that amount of money! Do you not rate him as a player? Is he not worth it? Like I said previously, Ive never paid any real attention to him, so Ive no idea what he is worth.
-
Just asked a Falkirk supporting mate about Spencer. Described him as a "quarterback" type with good range of passing. Reckons transfer fee of 拢400-500k. Sounds like a ready made Watt replacement with well over 拢1m profit on the 2 deals. I think Id be pretty ok with that.

For me Greatest Ever Signing isnt about financial recompense. Its who had the greatest impact at your club. For all the reasons listed above it has to be Davy Cooper. Quite simply, without him, we dont win the 91 Scottish Cup and dont have the 2 nearly title winning teams (allow me licence) of my generation. Some of the older guys might point to other players outwith my memory base and guys like Graham, Wark, Marinello, Davidson etc will always have a special place in my heart, but Cooper is still the best Ive ever seen in Claret & Amber.

On last nights evidence I dont think we are too far away from a pretty decent squad once everyone is back fit (that in itself being a defining factor in respect of how many players we ACTUALLY need). Keeper wise, I dint see us doing any more business. What we have is what we will stick with. Defence wise I think we are complete. Johnny K, SOD, Sparrow are our RBs. Once SOD McGinn and McGhee are back we have plenty CB cover so dont expect any business there. Longelo, Williams and Wilson are or LBs. We could do with an extra sitting midfielder to cover for Oscar & Lucas if one of them is injured or suspended. 2 creative midfielder types to replace Slattery & Just. One out and out goalscorer Possibly another winger for the left side. So 4/5 still incoming. After that we can decide who needs to go out on loan. Thought Booth looked decent last night but Id like to see how he fares against better opposition. Luca Ross is still young, but thought he was bullied physically by their LB last night when he came on, so jury still out on him. Didnt see enough of the other academy players to form an opinion.

I thought Mikey Booth showed up pretty well last night. Looked like a young player that thought he deserved to be there. Was always dropping into space to show for the ball and was demanding it from more senior players. Some good touches and generally looked like the kind of player that will fit our system. -

I think the issue with Wilson is a bit of confirmation bias. I dont think there is any doubt that before his move to Raith his form had dipped a fair bit. He was making mistakes and didnt look very assured. The fact that JBA didnt rate him enough to keep him around despite being really short in that position only added to the feeling he wasnt good enough. I dont read too much into the fact he didnt make it at Raith as he was very unlikely to play in front of Lewis Stevenson, which raises questions about the loan in itself. Judging him purely on last night, I thought he did well enough. Looks fit and physical, was decent enough going forward and if we had a big fit striker, might have had an assist or two. I was concerned when he was moved into centre back, but did fine there as well. Of course, you have to caveat all of that with the level of opposition, and he may still be moved on eventually. But right now? Id be keeping the boy around. -

Pleasantly surprised by that last night. Controlled the game for the most part. Scored 2 absolutely fantastic goals, and should have got 2 or 3 more. Said coulda had a hat trick if he knew how to shoot! Obviously there were shortcomings. But given how many players we had unavailable I think overall you have to be happy with the level of performance and direction of travel. Now if we can just get a few players back fit for next week please! -
Fadinger & Sparrow both played well. I was also impressed with Mikey Booth who didnt look out of place at all. But MOTM was Oscar. He really stepped up and put in a dominant performance both going forward and recovering the ball at the back.

That Old Chestnut - Do We Move Or Do We Stay
joewarkfanclub replied to Kmcalpin's topic in Club Chat
Regardless of position on whether to stay or go, this is the most exciting part for me. I truly never thought Id ever see Motherwell Football Club do anything, other than exist hand to mouth. The turnaround in 2 years is extraordinary. -

No one is not siding with McInnes because he is now Rangers manager. Well, Im certainly not. I think players and managers should be able to give their opinion on decisions after the game. In fact most are contractually obliged to. The issue here, for me anyway, is punishment. McInnes has got a more lenient punishment despite going in stronger on the decision than Watt did. I think both punishments are ridiculous. But they should at least reflect the alleged offence committed.

I was hoping Manny, Eythor, JT & Cookie might all be fit for the second leg. Maybe even Johnny K. -

I looked this up yesterday because Im kinda sad and wonder about these things, but Hanvar is Faroese for Port or Harbour. Boltfelag means football club. So HB Torshaven are actually Port Torshaven FC. Your welcome! 馃槏馃槏馃槏 -

Same here. We actually have no idea what level Hanvar are at. But we also dont really know what level we are at either. I guess part of the excitement of live sports is the finding out! Hoping Alfred and our young boys can surprise us! -
Absolutely. Lets rinse & repeat. Will the next future record transfer fee come on down!

1994 was probably one of our best ever sides. We went on to give Dortmund a real scare in the next round. I would hope we can still win the tie. But it might not be pretty tomorrow night. I actually think we are likely to be better in the away leg as we will have an extra weeks fitness under our belt and might have more players to choose from. Id happily take a 1-0 or 2-0 tomorrow with the expectation we wont lose over there. -
Should leave us with at least 拢5m clear plus the add ons. Spectacular piece of business. Hopefully assist with the incomings. Need 3 midfielders and a striker I think. Unless Olly Whyte is definitely going to be one of the midfielders.

Exactly this.

I think you need to look more closely at McInnes' comments. Yes he said they were disgusting, but he also implied there was an agenda hence questioning the integrity of the officials. Watt didnt do that. He just said it was tge worst VAR decision ever. McInnes' comments were also in relation to a game he was not involved in. He was also the manager aka "leader" of his club at that time, therefore in a position of trust, if you will. The 2 cases are NOT comparable. The fact that the individual committing the lesser offence received the greater punishment, might be described as "disgusting". Just my opinion mind you.....

The only tickets left in other stands seem to be single seats. Hopefully we can sell a good few in the McLean to make it worth our while and more importantly, improve the atmosphere.
