Just curious, what's a flying anorak?

Explained elsewhere. The next step from headless chicken - a type that hares into challenges that’ll excite some but, others realise the game has evolved and that conviction is misplaced.

Can’t a player when on the park grab the game by the scruff of the neck and maybe show the manager he’s capable of more? There’s been little incline to me even if as you say the shackles taken off that it will change much of Dean or our teams play with regards to how they chose to use him. This is from seeing him playing back at hibs from u 16s games and for Motherwell at u18s upwards

Yes, they can. How many do when following instruction? Flair is coached out of far too many much to the detriment of the sport. Perhaps needs more of a selfish streak.

Some are just tasked with doing the unglamorous work. Very much needed, but, as he’s not the flying anorak type he’s dismissed.

Just shocked you never dropped in seeing him at national level age groups. Billy Gilmour being the only flair player amongst ‘em. Then.

  3. Like I say, revisionism. Think the misty eyed would’ve seen a transfer fee akin to the player they thought we had. The club nurtured in a different way, marketed the player and should realise an additional stream from his progress. The players’ character and worth ethic embellish the talent.

Onto our player. The reason? Don’t know who you’ve been talking to, it certainly doesn’t align with those that matter.

Has it ever occurred to you that he’s developed because he’s followed instructions to the letter? Gametime as mentioned won’t define him. Take the shackles off, get the balance right and there’s more chance it’ll pay dividends.

Personally think it’s a forlorn hope, certainly as someone isn’t practising what he preached.

I never noticed much of a dip in Campbell form but even if there was, I would still have played him because even at his poorest he was head and shoulders above most

It’s not a comparison between the two players that’s being made. It’s the opportunity given to both.

We get Allan Campbell has a special place, and deservedly so. I’d wager Dean isn’t after being the ‘next’ Allan Campbell despite lots of focus on everything he did. He’ll want to be the first Dean Cornelius.

Unfortunately, it looks like he’s dealing with an ego that knows no bounds in current coaching staff.

I don’t think Dean has showed any level of ability similar to Allan Campbell. As soon as Allan Campbell came into the team he had something special about him and 100x the player as well I don’t recall him having lengthy dips in form. That doesn’t mean I think Dean is a bad player I think he’s a good rotation player and at the moment I’d have him in the team over others, sitting just in front of the defence as someone else has mentioned. I do disagree that someone else said about him not having an engine that’s probably his best asset is how hard he works but if he had that extra dig he’d be much better, not technically the greatest but given a run of games he could do something but for me he’s another Carswell/ Hetherington but hope to be proven wrong as he’s one of us.

Revisionism at its fans’ forum finest. 100x the player? Of course he had dips in form, it’s the most natural thing in young footballer’s making their way in the game - the difference being he was afforded the opportunity to make these mistakes and learn from them in sustained gametime which many feel could be replicated with others.

I’ll go on the word of those who’ve actively been involved in his development. Nothing cryptic or ITK before you start, all carried out in public.

Lack of gametime won’t define him as a player. Hammell & the kid in question will soon realise there’s a bigger world out there than Motherwell.

I don't agree, but I would  be happy to be proven wrong, you might have seen more of the boy than me....as regards Alan Campbell, I don't remember anyone saying they didn't rate him, I think we all could see he was a player with a great engine

And how do you know Dean hasn’t got a great engine? Point being made is getting him in the team regularly would be a start. Dress it up how you like, Allan Campbell had lengthy dips in form -persevered and tolerated mistakes when they inevitably happened - Dean hasn't really had the same opportunity, so plenty are unsure how good he is or could be.

the article says theyve watched him several times , they wont be bidding anything based on what hes done so far... not saying there isnt a player there but hes done nothing to merit any interest yet. Agent pish.

😂 A lot more to recruitment than you think. But, aye, agent pish is an easy out right enough.

Unsurprised by a few of the banger comments on my post. However since you have posed a sensible question, here a just a couple of examples for you:

Aberdeen have 21-year old midfielder Leighton Clarkson on loan from Liverpool.

St Johnstone have 20-year old left-back Adam Montgomery on loan from Celtic.

I know our “scouts” can’t be everywhere but surely we should be looking at these kind of players.

And why have we not tried to “partner-up” with an English Premiership club with a view to accessing some of their promising young players on loan?

Merit in what you say although I’m not sure I’d hold up the St Johnstone signing as some sort of virtue.

Too many variables, costs to loan are beyond some means & proposed partnerships only reduce the rates slightly. It is what it is.

Crankshaw has a record of 25 goals in 53 starts by the looks of Soccerbase, which works out at a goal every two games almost. That's a record that's not to be sniffed at, especially in the January window where the only players available usually are those that clubs can't wait to get rid of, or players who don't have a club and couldn't find one in the summer.

Nobody can fail to be impressed by those stats. That’s a signing coup right there.

Why is it folly? If a player is unfavoured by the manager for any reason and not getting game time, does not like the clubs methods, family can't settle in the area or just told by the manager your not in my plans, feel free to find another club etc etc then he might actively seek a transfer elsewhere. Now if they can be sold fair enough, but if not and the player really wants a move the contract can be terminated "by mutual agreement" I think is the phrase used.

Yes this will probably result in some form of financial recompense to the player, but the club also benefits, financially if it was a good paying long term contract ended early and also by freeing up resources to bring in a player better suited to the team, which by definition improves the team and makes us better.

Even if the club is hit financially we have moved on a player who does not want to be at the club to hopefully be replaced by someone who does so again that potentially improves the squad and makes us better.

Well aware circumstances like such arise. Nobody disputing that here.

It’s the correlation by some that a good paying long term contract ended early freeing up resources that’s folly, especially at our club. Simple arithmetic suggests we require additional funds to replace with someone better suited. I recall that’s been pointed out previously to club shareholders.

By your own admission… Even if the club is hit financially - so we’re stronger?

It's only a myth because you refuse to accept any other viewpoint than your own.

Behave yourself. Not any other viewpoint, yours is easy to disprove. Still never answered the question - how does your possibility make us stronger?

But, hey if it gets you a like or two batter in 👍

  12. 2 minutes ago, wellfan said:

What I suggested above wasn't a 'mutual offload', it was a manager freezing a player out in the hope that the player then sought to leave. That scenario is not beyond the realms of possibility.

Whatever. It’s the same myth you spoke of previously. Some would suggest questionable behaviour tant amount to workplace bullying, but, that’ll be for the players’ union to debate.

Going beyond your realms of possibility, how does this make us stronger? The thinking it frees up a wage just because player X seeks to leave is folly. That’s the reality.

  13. 1 hour ago, wellfan said:

I had forgotten about Morris; he's another failed Alexander experiment. I wonder if managers still freeze out players, making them feel compelled to ask their agent for a move?!

Ah! The mutual offload you peddled weeks back. Doesn’t work in theory never mind in practise. Give it up

and i agree with you   but any system you want can be manipulated  as some on here watch 4 4 2   or 4  3 2 1  or even craig laveins 5 5 0     but when the players go on the grass they have brain farts, and are possibly not doing whats theve been told and chasing paper on a windy day , 1st goal sat  lamies pointing to penny about nesbit,    poor pennys who had his worst game   was in beetween nesbit and the guy behind him  everybody pointing like peter grant but nobody actually doing what needs to be done ,, mark the feckin centre forward  in the box , any way sorry bout the rant but my point is take your pick of formations and most on here will see it differant in there eyes

    Reasoned debate 👍

  15. 13 minutes ago, smiddy said:

OTF  we can play any system SH sets up, but your obviously clued up enough on the game to know ,  if we individually cant defend, we lose goals, we lose goals , we lose games,    i would take it your old managers wouldv booted your erse for not standing over the ball to prevent the quick free kick, under 8s feckin know that  were just not switched on quick enough, or as iv said on here before     you cant polish a shite ,,,,,,,,   i thank you

Not disagreeing, not the point being made though.

Just seeing posted regularly on various platforms the misconception that we’ve kept same formation as previous manager when we haven’t.

When you add in what some think they’ve been watching, their criticism is bordering on the absurd.

  16. 20 hours ago, Spiderpig said:

That's the big problem I have, it's blatantly obvious over recent months that the team is put out with the same formation,  same tactics and game plan, only the team selection changes, so why does SH and BK stick with a system / approach that is failing big time?

It’s blatantly obvious? Recent months? Same tactics and game plan? Stick with a system/approach?

Not endorsing current failings, but, formation has changed. We’ve reverted to 4-3-3 in last three matches from using 4-2-3-1 to match opposition faced. It really isn’t that difficult.

Who were the alternatives? As far as I remember Moult was signed on the cusp of the window closing and it was touch and go as to whether or not it was happening.

Moves made by St Johnstone were inextricably linked. Them’s the breaks, it’s proved costly but, we move on.

It will be interesting to see what areas hammel strengthens to see if he rates them...mkinstry shows some nice touches but just not enough... shields caused more problems today and put in better crosses

Cornelius just seems to run about but not do much

Not a popular opinion, I know, they're well fans and young , so I'd love the two of them to be cracking players too

    Played football much?

What is it you want them to do? Seems opinion based on adopting a flying anorak approach chasing around the pitch launching into tackles.

Take last 2 outings for example. Done the tasks being asked to do. Someone has to do the doggy runs, it brings a natural energy to the team & helps drive us forward more often than not. Covered every blade of grass at Ibrox and one reason Rangers never overran us as has been a theme last few months. Yesterday was spent matching the opposition so ball was overhead for majority. 10 minutes aside of a few misplaced passes, he snapped out of that.

Our one midfielder who’s willing to go beyond our forward line and capable of getting back.

Said it before, the midfield has to be the sum of all parts - Both Alexander & Hammell looked to add the experienced head required. Had either been successful it would’ve been of benefit to the relatively inexperienced Slattery and certainly Cornelius.

Maybe Hammels use of the bench is dictated by the pish thats on it. None of the players on the bench today are game changers. They are like for Likers.

Defines insanity in most books - sticking with the same faces expecting a different result.

McKinstry and Coreneliues get away with murder with the fans because their "love of the club" McKinstry couldnt cross a bridge and Cornelieus couldnt fight off a cold.

Deary me, see we’ve signed a big name. 10 or 11 letters if you’d get it right. As daft as your claim.

Those kids have never been murder to get away with anything. Out of all our problems those two making their way isn’t even in the top ten.

The slope of the park had to be fixed for VAR to work with the offside cameras.

That’s a belter even by your standards.

You’re also quoting a figure more than double that relayed to shareholders, even if the required work and longer term thinking hadn’t been done it would be unlikely to see playing budget increased.

Whit a load of pish ……… are you honestly saying that we played 5 in midfield last night ???

Be it 2-3-1 or 5-1 that not how that team was set up last night and if you think it was it’s time you went to specsavers

🤣 Prove me wrong? When you set up 4-2-3-1 as we do it revers to 4-5-1 when defending or it should. It’s not difficult.

it’s exactly how the team has set up for months now, choose to believe it or not. As for you Specsaver’s quip… bit juvenile, but, given your grasp on the argument it’s to be expected.

Go on, make my day, I’ll have money on you rating Spittal and McGinn.
