  1. . discuss.......... c***s

Not sure how that works, but you're right about everyone deserving a second chance. I don't know whether he now regrets the infamous autograph, but I hope so. If it was a silly mistake as he played to the gallery, let the guy move on. However, should he really hold such unpleasant views, let him go to Australia, and hopefully take all other like minded fools with him.

Im not a scientist or geologist but wouldn't Australia sink if every "fool" that didn't like the pope was sent there ?

  2. While this doesn't bother me in the slightest, it does seem to confuse a lot of folk who don't know how it works-- if the split is going to happen, I dunno why they don't just properly split things into two groups, rather than pretending everyone is still playing in the same league.

They have two seperate sets of fixtures between the two different sets of clubs, play the finales on different days, and call it "the split" what more would you suggest they do !?

Its hardly a major revelation or rocket science that post split the team in 7th playing lesser teams they finished above may well win more points than the team in 6th playing against the best teams that they finished below. You cant compare the two and to be fair to the SPL they dont, it's not their fault that even after about 8 years some people cant get their heads around the word "split" !

Im sure i heard that there was supposed to be a trophy for whoever finished top of the bottom 6 but Aberdeen told them to stick it when they finished 7th in its first year and so the idea was forgotten about , dont know how true that is though.

  3. I still cannot quite understand how Hibs are supposedly our nearest rivals for this fair play spot.

I mean they are something like 20 yellow cards behind us. If they get in ahead of us then they should change the name to the "make it up as you go along league".

Maybe Hibs' fans are sitting asking why we are being quoted while playing under a suspended fine for call offs and playing games on a tattie field that just about every oppostion club moaned about through the winter ?

  4. Well, if you're not one of them then the 'pop' wasn't aimed at you my friend! :D

    About two hours.....

It is, but we'll survive and get on with it.

7th place, given our historic league placings over the years, is hardly a catastrophe!

Lets all enjoys the Faroes in early July :D

    'Flow

Aye but i just cant keep my mouth shut :P

Historically where are our player and managers wages sitting ? Hopefully we can reproduce todays form when we arent under any pressure next season and Murphy wont become a forgotten man again. I wasnt fooled by the talk of us being Brazil of the 70s after Easter Rd last season apres split and i wont be fooled into thinking today means we have it all right again either. Fine result and big well dones all round though. St Mirren wouldve been well up for it , fancying their chances and had every right to "want" it more than us as well.

And if we get the Faroes then i will show the board shouting screaming nit picking and moaning as due to other scattercash commitments around then im needing a cheap Crusaders (Well done today the Hatchetmen , cup winners !) type trip

  5. I thought the boys were brilliant today and a special word for Mark McGhee who got his team selection and tactics absolutely spot on.

I hope all those who constantly shout and scream if we lose or draw and nit pick at the gaffers every call will acknowledge when he gets something totally spot on.

Some of our pass and move football was as good as anything in 2007/2008!

    Onwards and upwards!

    'Flow

Im not someone who comes on shouting screaming or nit picking about his selections or managerial capabilities , if i was qualified to do that id be managing in the SPL myself.

How long have you had to wait to have that pop though ?

Just a pity we never done it in the games that really mattered eh ?

  6. Thats not what the original post was about though. It was about the commitment of the players leading to where we finish. Because I think most people would agree that if Motherwell's players gave 100% commitment and effort every game then with their natural superior ability to most teams then they would win a lot more than they lose or draw. Defeats to teams like Falkirk, St Mirren and Hamilton due to lack of effort is unacceptable in my opinion - and no-one here can deny that there have been a few of those performances this season. I would much rather see us play fantastic football and smash teams to bits every week but that just isnt going to happen. So the commitment has to be there every game then we can build from there.

Have you seen our games against the three you name this season ? I think you are doing the three of them a disservice if you think it's been a lack of effort in the games we've dropped points to them. Last season we maybe had superior ability havent seen much if any evidence of that this season though.

  7. Who's he pointing it out to? Motherwell fans know the situation. I don't remember many Motherwell managers of the past competing with Championship sides for players or taking valued Old Firm players from them. Was he fibbed to when he took the job ?

and he cant have been as confident as he says he was of landing that player if him heading to England now hasnt came as surprise.

I'm not one of those always on his back, he's the best we've had in a while and the best we are likely to have in a while IMO but talk is cheap, he's want to get on with the job he's paid to do and quit moaning and coming out with rubbish like this and a 15 game run shows we're 3rd best in the land - as we're watching them struggle to get the points off of the lower sides to take us higher than 7th place

  8. Last year in Austria and onwards seemed to be solid enough for everyone else ....

hope you are right, whether he is good enough or not isnt really here or there as we are stuck with him or McGarry to replace him, that's just how it is.

  9. A quick look shows i think they played together in the 8 games up until yesterday , we won 2 of the 8.

Id say a full season of them together is more likely to see us in a relegation dogfight. Anyone know why O'Brien wasnt playing yesterday ?

Id like him to play these games to either get confidence against the worst defences in the league or show to the manager that he isnt good enough for the top league and should be bombed before the next window shuts.

  10. I'd like to think Mr McGhee is doing all he can to secure a commanding leader for the team, someone who can instill some fighting spirit .......... which is sadly lacking at present.

Id actually disagree with that a wee bit , in Klimpl , Craigan , Quinn for example we have chest thumpers who can gee the team up and in any case i'm not doubting the effort of any the players. I think it's more a case of lacking in talent that see's us fail to impose ourselves in an attacking sense

  11. Going back to the original article, Motherwell cant compete with Championship clubs in the transfer market , is the manager genuinely surprised by this how long has he been here ?

and without singling anyone out if what we are getting from them is their best, nevermind bottom 6 next season we could have a relegation battle on our hands.

We lack goals and thats a worry , games against the (rank rotten) teams at the bottom lately have shown us up. We didnt deserve any more than we got against Falkirk St Mirren or Kilmarnock and robbed Hamilton the last time we played them. Third best team in the league my dick.

From midfield going forward we definately arent good enough although i trust MMcG to put it right.

Although hopefully when he says we need more experience he doesnt mean benchfillers at the top end of our wage structure like we have now.

  12. The rumours in Belfast are that we are still signing the Linfield keeper. He's definately off somewhere as they have their replacement lined up.

Two keepers though when we are skint and havent went down that route under McGhee and it would mean Fraser is moving hours down the road for a change of bench ? Doubt it.

  13. True what id like and what ill get and expect are two different things.

If pushed then id keep all our defenders, the return of McLean gives us options and i didnt think Quinn let us down on the left , give Murphy a run or concentrate our annual loans up there and spend any real money we have on midfielders as other than Hughes and Klimpl the rest are nowhere near top 6 standard as the next 5 games will show.

  14. -------------------New GK---------------------

    Quinn----New CD-----New CD----Hammell

    ---------------------Klimpl---------------------

    New RM-----------Hughes-----------New LM

    ---------New ST----------Clarkson-------------

Is what id like, Klimpl will be off most likely though and we dont have the cash or guile for the transfer market it seems to replace so many.

If Hughes leaves and it leaves O'Brien as our creative hope god help us.

  15. And Faddy and Lambert and McAllister and if only we'd kept Ian St John , Dixie Deans , Tam Boyd, Andy Walker , Choccy .....

Deal wae it and stop moaning, our best players will always move on to bigger and better things.

If missing out on the top 6 on the last day before the split is the worse youve encountered as a 'Well fan you've had no a bad time of it

Oh and brace yourself for next season

  16. How does no one complain of SUper-World Star Striker David "I cant even control a Ball" Clarkson... He seems to get of very, very lightly!

Retrospectivly I think we sold Top 6 with Porter leaving, although I can see it was business. We simply dont have a striker anymore.

Sutton: Big target man, but we dont play for him, although he doesnt show he should be played at

Murphy: might have talent, but dont know and he dint do anough this season to convince me YET!

Clarkson: I dont know... simply dont like him, bc he is not a footballer! He doesnt deserve a place in a SPL team, simply bc of his lack of technical ability and goalscoring. Running alone doesnt really help...

    ENough for tonight

IMO Clarkson is the best attacking option we have (as the jury is out on Murphy due to lack of chances). His effort , talent and general goal threat are far ahead of anyone other forward likely to get a game. Not saying he's Ruud Van Nistelrooy but the thought of us with this squad in a relegation battle without him brings me out in cold sweats , think back to December.

Sutton looks to be too far off the pace to play with him or anyone else. Can Sheridan be sent back to the piggery early ? What a waste of money that it is if all hes doing is warming the bench taking a wage, doing one of our own younger players out of an audition

  17. Hughes cant do it all by himself , who else was creating in midfield today ? Klimpl may be a cult hero but he cant shoot and can barely find a forward pass , Hammell is a left back playing midfield and Jim O'Brien .... well , a post above says we must hold onto him - does he know something we dont , are Elgin and Inverurie planning on raid - if theyve based their scouting on actually watching him rather than the ludicrous MOTM poll on here each week then probably not.

Hold on to him ? You couldnt get anyone else in the SPL to take him on a wages paid loan and give him a seat on their bench. and that's a fact.

  18. True , they kept those two. It's the likes of Lawson they punted out on loan.

Thats why McCormack is playing in the Championship and JOB was got rid of by Celtic and replaced by Paul Lawson.

    Happy ?

  19. I 'm quite amazed that anyone would pick Jim O'Brien yes he scored a goal but then proceeded to spend the rest of the game hiding .I do not remember a time after that that he took on a man and beat him after that ,even when Aberdeen brought on Aluko (their biggest threat)he immediately switched wings .In the early part of the game when Quinn had the ball O'Brien went inside giving him no outball ,I'm afraid he is just like McGarry a 45 minute man .

Did he not also put the great cross in at the death where we almost sneaked the win ?

BTW for what it's worth im bamboozled with the comments on here about him being great and excellent too - and i mean every week. Porter and McCormack - 3rd place, Sutton and O'Brien - 7th place and that's about right.

Still thats why McCormack is playing in the Championship and JOB has been got rid of by Celtic and replaced by two Irish league players

  20. Did Aberdeen have any shots at all after they scored? I can't remember any? Indeed, I can hardly even remember them coming up the park?

    'Flow

Agreed , at one point i thought Graeme Smith was going to run down the other end, waken up Jamie Langfield and ask him for a shot of his knitting needles .

We got what we deserved, same as at Killie.

Still hope for the top 6 and St Mirren to do us a favour against Hibs but don't think we can argue about false positions if we end up 7th

  21. Ah ive seen this before on here .

His cousin logs on saying he was on his way to deliver a signed top to the Calderwood Pensioners Society for them to raffle off to raise funds for the bus trip to Ayr when he had to drop the blind man he was helping across the road because he heard a smoke alarm going off. Upon kicking the door in he realised it mustve been the tally van up the road he heard and not a smoke alarm the delirous woman (rumoured to be a benefit cheat) wouldnt see reason though and insisted on calling the authorities.

Oh and it wisny Motherwell , it wisny even North Lanarkshire and the youth in Motherwell dont bother with doors , Buckfast and schemegrade Cocaine lets you march through brick walls

  22. Without doubt Dave and that is the SPL in a nutshell minus the Old Firm. It's the main reason why realistically, no-one will even break the Old Firm's grip on the title because there is no level of consistency.

For some un-known reason, we can be on a superb run yet inexplicably not perform to previously set stands for not real reason at all. That's not just a Motherwell thing....

We go and comfortably beat Inverness away from home yet yesterday aside, they've been beating teams that we've struggled against (Killie, for example). There's no mathematical formula for it - you can have the best preparation in the world but for some reason it just doesn't work all the time when you step onto the pitch.

    That is football!

Mark McGhee has been in charge of Motherwell now for twenty-one months now and currently has a win percentage of 41.25%. That is better than Maurice Malpas, Terry Butcher, Eric Black, Billy Davies, Alex McLeish and I'd wager that it is even better than Tommy McLean (I don't have the facts to prove that but we had many baron years under Tommy).

We've qualified for Europe in his first season and now close to repeating that in his second. We're going to have some off days but when you have a sense of perspective for a short minute, you can see that our good days have far outweighed our bad in the last two years.

Yesterday was one of the poorer games we've been served up yet we've picked up a point. We're Motherwell in the SPL - We're going to have inexplicable flat days but by the by, we've got it right good at the moment.

    'Flow

Agree with most of that but if MMcG had the same win ratio as Malpas having put an extra million a year on the wage bill he'd be wanting his balls kicked .

As for being close to Europe we are sitting in 7th and at the stage where every point counts. Those 2 dropped yesterday could well see us miss out on the top 6 nevermind europe. There's no devine right but those 3 yesterday were do-able , the manager obviously thought the same going by his preperation , ill bet he wasnt pleased with the display considering the effort made by staying overnight, that didnt sound like the actions of a man looking for a draw.

The flatness yesterday was dissapointing but its a refular complaint both sides of the border that the 1230KOs cause that. Id much rather have where we are now to moan about than where we were a couple of years ago having just stayed up and lost to St Mirren

  23. Pretty much sums up my views too. I'll take some convincing we didn't set out for a draw. It was a case of safety first which is a bit of a let down as Killie aren't the best side in the SPL. If we HAD to play such a game today then Sheridan should have started with Clarkson, or if he wasn't fit then Murphy. We desperately needed pace and running in the side.

That same team shouldve had United buried at HT last week with the chances we created so dont think we set out for a draw , we simply arent good enough to try and be that clever anyway.

Bad day for just about everyone in the team , maybe a wee wake up call in the nick of time for some with Aberdeen coming up .
