Motherwell Fc Memorabilia Thread

I had a quick mess around with O'Neills online kit design package and you could produce something like this... However the three stripes on kits are only available to Irish customers, so you would need to get an Irish friend to ship it over to you.
-
There is a company who have used the three stripes on sportswear legally for years. O’Neills the Irish sportswear company were taken to court in the early 80’s by adidas but won their case against the German sportswear giant. You can read about the trial here. Legally you could manufacture a 1980’s Motherwell 3 stripe top if you could convince O’Neills to make it. O’Neills are also one of the few companies who produce off the shelf team wear in claret/maroon and amber (complete with three stripes). Below is a screen grab from their 2010/11 catalogue...

I was glad when the club shop asked me to recreate the original 70s script for the recent 125 anniversary top as I was always championing it's return. In my opinion we should use this monogram on training/leisure gear whenever possible. We have used various script fonts in recent times but I would standardise it to the original 70s version.
-
They are rarer than rare as they were only manufactured for the team. Unfortunately you are more likely to see the loch ness monster piloting a UFO over the White House, than a Motherwell 1980's adidas shirt.
-
Some big clubs have deals in place with adidas to recreate classic designs, unfortunately Motherwell are not in that league.
-
The shirt was never put on sale to the public, however I did see a girl wearing an original at one of our cup semis or finals. This was the first time that I had seen it since the early 80's. Due to copyright issues clubs are not allowed to reproduce retro 3 striped shirts, however some clubs do sell 4 striped versions.

Our first and only time in an adidas shirt. The 70s and 80s adidas templates were indeed design classics.
-
It certainly works better in C&A than maroon & white. You could maye advertise it as a modern homage to our 50s hooped sleeve shirts (although this would be stretching it a bit).
-
The latest Hearts adidas shirt has been the but of a few jokes on football forums. As always I am keen to see what it would look like in C&A as certain colour schemes can sometimes change the over all feel of a design. It works better in the long sleeve version, however I am still not convinced by this latest adidas template. Any thoughts?

When is it draw made?

You’ve taken that too far.

Having worked as a design professional for over 30 years, it is my opinion that certain elements in our current badge are in need of a revamp. I can't claim to know much about other professions, however I have learned a little about design over the years. Trust me, the Steelworks and fir tree graphics in our badge are tired and badly drawn. It is highly unlikely that the club will change the current badge anytime soon, and I was merely casting a professional eye over a badge that was designed 30 years ago.
-
I reckon when it comes to club badges certain design elements require a generic look. If you were designing a tournament badge (World Cup, Champions League) you could opt for a more up to date ball. That's the problem, certain design elements within the club badge are broken. The industrial Steelworks graphic and the fir trees are starting to show their age. And that is why I have changed very little weeyin. I like the sentiment behind our club badge, it just requires a design M.O.T. I have kept all of the design elements but hopefully made them clearer and more recognisable.
-
Here is a version with the more conventional ball.
-
The one used at the moment has been badly drawn and as you say it doesn’t fit the space that well. The graphic close up version looks more integrated with the rest of the badge.
-
That’s the reason I opted for the older looking ball.
-
Going by some recent redesigns this is subtle. We occasionally bring the ball out in white rather than amber. Personally I prefer a little bit of white in the design, however the ball could revert back to the original design.
-
I think the trick is to be subtle, you tend to forget that these badges were drawn so long ago and a lot of them can start to look a bit tired.
-
The club badge has been around since 1983 and over the years various sections are looking the worst for wear. The two main problem parts for me are the Steelworks and the fir tree silhouettes. The Steelworks look more like a silhouette of a paddle steamer and the three fir trees have been reduced to vague tree shaped blobs. The original would have been drawn by hand and would have bore little resemblance to the current version. Since the advent of computer graphics the badge will have gone through some auto trace software which will have attempted to copy the original. This is the equivalent to photocopying a photocopy of the badge several times and hoping that it will be as good as the original. This along with some poor computer draughtsmanship will not have helped the cause. With various clubs giving their badges a makeover in recent years, I suggest that we make some subtle alterations to our current design. The overall look and feel would remain the same, however the Steelworks and trees would hopefully be more recognisable. I am not suggesting a complete redesign, just some subtle changes to a 30 year old badge. I have quickly sketched how I envisage a new badge would look, in doing this I have opted to use a classic view of the Steelworks and added some much needed detail back into the fir trees. Redesigning anything to do with a clubs heritage can be very emotive (Everton’s newly redesigned badge is a case in point), however l believe certain aspects should be upgraded every now and then. I have my tin hat at the ready.

Dixie Deans matchworn shirt was posted up here a few years ago and is the perfect item for this thread. I can't remember who posted up the images, however the shirt is a belter.
