  1. Very sad news. R.I.P, Paul
  2. I thought it was only for a year. Don't know why but it could be my memory playing tricks. Here's hoping it's longer deal.
  3. Proving that heavy rain fall is nothing new. v Celtic early 70's v Celtic mid 70's Coyne has a word with a Swedish diver v Celtic 11-04-1931 v Celtic 1933
  4. Motherwell v Stoke City The Texaco Cup Andy Paton v Celtic Scottish Cup SF replay 1954 V Celtic Scottish Cup QF 1952 v Rangers
  5. Shirt sponsorship arrives in Motherwell courtesy of Scottish Brewers. The Rangers fans are silenced. The Celtic fans are silenced. Putting the Kill into Kilmarnock. Celebration Motherwell style. Who's the player? _ _ _ _ / _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Peter Miller has King Kenny in his back pocket. Half time entertainment Fir Park style. The greatest ever goal.
  6. Both the amber and the claret are difficult to get spot on. I actually prefer a slightly darker amber and a warmer claret. I hate when the amber is too yellow and the claret goes too purple. I suppose it all depends on each manufacturers take on it. Going by the web pics the red in the new Man U kit doesn't look quite right. Have you see that one in the flesh Traffic? If so, how does it compare to previous tops?
  7. Fir Park legend. Copa Barcelona Cup from the Fir Park trophy room Scottish Cup (will we ever see the likes again?) Carlsberg don't do title parties... Invasion Faddy The 'Ark' Dortmund Novo The Fir Park rollercoaster
  8. A medal from our South African tour was up for auction recently. also... A rare original newspaper from our 1928 Argentine adventure is still on sale HERE
  9. It is probably more likely that our blue originated from Alpha who wore that colour before they merged with Glencairn to form Motherwell. Glencairns colour is not known as they were not SFA members, so unlike Alpha their colours where not registered. It could also be because more common colours like blue were cheaper to buy. To quote Historical kits...
  10. Dixie Deans Gary McAllister John Goldthorp Ian St.John Matt Thomson
  11. Football historian Alick Milne sent me these notes on our switch to claret and amber.
  12. Yes the 'amber' in that kit was very canary yellow. Although black and white this old picture of Ben Ellis will give you a indication of how much darker our original amber colour was.
  13. The kit was claret and amber stripes. It's just that our original shade of amber was much darker than it is at the moment.
  14. I think that's about right. Motherwell where one of the best Scottish sides at the time and were always hot on the heels of the old firm. This probably put us in demand as tough opposition for any club or country for pre season games.
  15. Some great pics on Getty Images of Motherwell's tour of Argentina in 1928. Not sure if The Steelmen programme has ever written an article on our South American exploits but i'm sure it would make for some interesting reading. Just look at the crowd for these games! Also check out the headgear on the Argentine player on the last pic.
  16. I hope i'm not the only one to noticed Jim styles his hair like our very own eddiemunster.
  17. Not sure if this possible loan signing has been mentioned. SkySports Well eye United starlet Scots consider De Laet Motherwell are weighing up a move for Manchester United youngster Ritchie De Laet, skysports.com understands. The SPL side are looking to bolster their squad ahead of the new season and they are thought to be exploring the option of signing De Laet on loan. Motherwell officials are believed to have watched the Belgian in recent weeks for United's reserves in pre-season action and have been impressed by De Laet. De Laet joined United from Stoke last January and made his Premier League debut on the final day of last season against Hull. Te 20-year-old is well down the pecking order at Old Trafford and United boss Sir Alex Fergusoncould consider loaning him out so that he can get regular first-team action under his belt.
  18. Three of my favourite pics. 1. Gregor Stevens doing everything in his power to stop (Graham Shaw?) of Hearts. 2. A full Fir Park for a game against Celtic. Complete with overspill on the roof of the East Stand. 3. Nice evening light shines on the Main Stand.
  19. Sad to hear about Brian. He was one of my favourite players and possessed one of the hardest shots in the league at the time. I remember one free kick that was hit so hard it almost cracked the old wooden crossbar.
  20. Welcome aboard Giles. Surely he has to be sponsored by Jack Daniels!
  21. Cheers for that. Hopefully things will even out over the two legs.
