  1. With his sterling managerial record I'm not so sure he is the man to go for. That said I don't think his record at Leeds was horrendous but tailed off at the wrong time. He not be my first choice but certainly have him before Leitch.
  2. Even Melvin Bragg would personally give McGhee a gammie on request for rest of his life with that success rate!

    So It Begins...

Might have done, but one more update to confirm that and say seed getting sown or what not would be ideal. It isn't the most exciting news story but after the farce of last year it was good to see these constant updates showing the work getting done no faffing around. Maybe there is less to report but keep reporting what you can, you know what people are like the sound of silence breeds instant suspicion, not entirely unjustifed.

    So It Begins...

Maybe don't necesarily have to assume the worst but after update after update the gap is a bit incongruous. Were we waiting on the Setanta money to buy the grass seed?
  5. Summer football could make a difference, but again not a huge amount I don't think. I can see them want to shoe horn all 4 OF games into the months of June and July to maximise the viewing figures as outside those two months their SPL coverage be very much a sideshow. I daresay they might consider some sort of deal but I doubt moneywise it'll be as much as what Setanta were offering albeit more than they could afford. Wouldn't mind being proven wrong though just to save the potential drama of having to flog a couple of important players to make ends meet. Having looked at the club accounts over the years the TV money does make a significant chunk of our income.
  6. Would be a bit like Motherwell buying up Albion Rovers to get rid of the competition. :-)
  7. Just the thought is enough to send a cold shiver down yer spine that is!
  8. I don't see why Sky would be hugely interested. They find it difficult to fit us into the little free time they have. as for cash for a do what we tell you deal, we got that with Setanta anyway.
  9. Unnamed chairman hints at huge fall out. Probalby right that contracts for next few years already committed to are banking on that TV deal paying in full.
  10. What you going to do though, stick to the wages we payed back in the day before TV money was a significant part of the income? Nice idea and one I'd wish clubs had went with, passing the savings on to the fans meaning lower gate prices and maybe bigger crowds watching the games. If we had done that though chances are we lose out on players to teams spending it on players wages etc, end up going down and well little TV money to worry about anyway. But it never gonna happen. The whole fabric of society would need to change first. I do hope after the lessons of ITV digital we not mortgaged our future on this anticipated revenue or it could be some bad times ahead.

Dunno I tend to buy the socks more than the tops. Design of the top looks pretty decent though. If a wee bitty yellowly on my screen, hopefully better in the flesh.
  12. The ICT fans on Pie and Bovril seem to think Imrie isn't that great, most happy to see him go. Reverse psychology maybe but he not a player that excites me, happy to be proved wrong if we sign him though.
  13. I'm thinking McGhee might well be staying where he is for next season. I can see him holding out with the hope of landing Celtic job with Aberdeen filling the vacancy in the meantime and him being stuck where he is. Provided he considers that possiblity and keeps trying to land players for our squad that he thinks can do a job it may be best thing all round for ourselves if he can recreate the magic of his first season. My only real concern is he goes after a protracted process or he misses out on possible players for us with the air of uncertainty about.
  14. For sames reasons you mention I wouldn't want to see Leitch given the job, but end of he day he might do a fantastic job. There is no magic formula it seems, with a year at County and two years as assistant to McGhee I think barring leaving the club to manage elsewhere and coming back what else is Leitch going to do to get more suitable experience? If and when McGhee goes as he will sooner or later I hope we can find someone on the way up who wants to play attractive football and and give us a team worth watching, if it is Leitch I hope he has learned enough to be that man. I do fear however another Malpas situation if he gets the job.
  15. Game of the season: Nancy away. Sadly not for the quality of football or the spectacle but the occasion. The game itself is about the only one where I got really into it and whilst ultimately a game and tie I was disappointed with it was just something to see us playing in europe in the flesh. Smith's penalty save being almost as good as a goal as it preserved hope for the 2nd leg. Goal of the season: John Sutton at Ibrox, absolute belter. Player of the season: David Clarkson, the often ungainly and ungraceful looking DC has provided goals, assists and workrate again an absolute key player. We do miss Porter who might have pipped DC if he'd stayed the full season. Craigan was also solid this season, much missed when injured. Also thought Lasley was playing really well right up until he became captain and own form seemed to suffer and he drifted out the first XI. Best moment: Football wise Smith's save in Nancy. In general seeing the square in Nancy filled with Well fans on the day of the game. Worst Moment: The pitch certainly been a low point. November and December were pretty grim also. I know we had injuries but even so McGhee basically seemed to tell them to forget playing fitba and just lump it to Porter and Sutton. Hibs 4-1 game being possibly the lowest ebb. But the absolute lowest was the St.Mirren cup game at Fir Park just as our season really threatened to turn around. That team selection was a bad joke and people wonder why Melvyn Bragg goes mental about McGhee? Bare faced lies or incompetence claiming that as a 4-3-3. Before I get flack, yes McGhee is still best manager since wee tommy but he not the messiah despite the evidence of his first season suggesting he might be. Worst player of the year: Bob Malcolm. He gives the impression of just not giving a toss. Apologies if some chronic injury is the reason he appears to be fat, slow and uninterested looking but either way he been a huge waste of a wage! Young player of the year: I suppose it O'Brien, he flatters to decieve a lot but he done enough to earn his place and if he keeps working at his game he might well go onto bigger things. Murphy looked a shoe in at one point but ever since the Nancy first name on the teamsheet debacle he not quite been so involved or so confident. Big hopes for next year, but he does need to fill out a bit. Overall: A lot more lows than highs and the average entertainment way down on what was largely consistent excellence last season. 5/10, 6 once europe is confirmed.

Neither we do, doh. Thinking of all the potential combinations got me all confused.

One of us is getting confused. We currently got amber top/claret shorts and an all white away kit. I don't really mind what the colour the home kit shorts are but prefer them white on the away. Unless we having a non all white season with away kit then I don't really care that much the home shorts colour though I have a slight preference to an all amber home kit(band/hope optional).

claret shorts, not with a white top. Doesn't look good!

I not fussy over short colour much, but prefer amber myself. After that claret. White is ok but I generally prefer our away kits to be white so they should get the white shorts.

Did I imagine Fitzpatrick scoring last night?
  21. With Roy Keane taking training would you want to be there! :-) Certainly cause for concern though, but risk and reward scenario. Look at Foran, largely paid off. Bob Malcolm it didn't. Worth a look I think if McGhee thinks the player will knuckle down, we might be catching him at the point where he realises he has to or maybe he made enough money he just doesn't care enough but player with CL and EPL experience surely got the ability still in his late 20's.
  22. I'm not concerned that the europa league early start will ruin next season. Only concern is messes up our preseason should we make an arse of the first round, get papped out and struggle to find teams to finish up our pre season schedule. Seasons ends what a week on saturday, give them 3 weeks off (making sure they told to rest, relax but not spend 3 weeks on the lash, eating like shite and coming back unfit and needing pounded back into shape), then got a couple of weeks to work towards the first round which I'd think should be enough to get us ready. Hopefully we can get past second round also, after that it may get quite difficult but who knows with luck of the draw and maybe catching a team or two cold we might even get further. I certainly don't expect to see us get all the way to the group stage proper but if we do fantastic, if not we've had what could be an exciting preseason and hopefully the competative games will see us sharper for the the first few weeks of the SPL. As season gets on if players show signs of tiredness then I expect the manaer to be able to deal with it, a day off here and there if needed, changing approach to training to keep everyone ready for matches. I can't see us totting up the games though that should see the squad run out of gas.

Absolutely no stand outs, with only a few getting pass marks I plumped for Clarkson. Quinn did ok, McLean got us a goal, but was a struggle to think of anyone that really stood out. Our wide players were pretty poor tonight, and it true that Sutton did more than the invisible Sheridan he was still poor also. Roll on next season!
  24. QPR's Liam Miller has been linked with move to Cork City when his contract expires this summer. (Daily Star) On loan from Sunderland, bit of a come down career wise if it even remotely true he'd consider going back to Cork City. Good player that might be surely be willing to consider the SPL ahead of comforts of home country if remotely bothered about rebuilding career?
  25. Did he not leave Reading in the lurch somewhat? I wouldn't think they'd be that interested, maybe if he followed up last seasons excellent one with similar stuff but even then sure they'd prefer someone else.
