  1. McCall has almost exactly the same win percentage at Bradford as Butcher did at Coventry/Sunderland before he joined us. There are far too many factors in lpay to assess whether he can be successful at Fir Park. There are plenty of folk on here that would never have believed Big Eck would turn into a decent Scotland manager and make a good job of it in the EPL. And who would have guessed Roberto Martinez would turn out to be an EPL gaffer?

I would like to agree with you weeyin but with my track record I have probably not understood what you are meaning

  2. Nae worries oh thick one..................it is the only connection he previously has with being a manager at Fir Park and my post related to UBH's post about having a regular challenge match with Bradford at Fir Park......hence the mention of the last one to happen. The match was unique in that it had one of the quickest goals I have ever seen at a live football match.........hence the mention. No rocket science is it?

So sorry oh great and wise one that I am not wonderful enough to understand your meanings or the inner workings of rocket science like yourself, but you see the first thing they tell you when you are training to be a teacher is that if you have to explain what you mean it is not that your listeners are thick or stupid but that it is that the telling of the story or fact was so bad that even intelligent people don't get its meaning. The fact that they lost 4-0 the last time that they visited FP is obviously a good reason to slag off the comments of another poster who was making a reasonable enough suggestion regarding a potential charity match. You obviously felt that it was neccessary to mention that if one of McCalls teams can lose a goal to us in 11 seconds that he is utter pish as a manager. Or did you mean something else?

  3. Seem to remember McCall being in the away dugout at FP not that long ago and Clarky scoring after 11 seconds. Motherwell 4 Bradford 0.

Who cares about the past he is in the 'Well dugout now so lets give him a chance to fail before we hang draw and quarter him. <_>

Welcome to Motherwell Stuart, if you didn't already know it you have some of the most demanding arseholes in the world to convince that you are good at your job.

  4. I don't care who our new manager used to play for, all I care about is how he manages MFC. He's obviously impressed the board enough for them to offer him the job, so I'll trust them on this one for the time being.

One thing that seems to be lost on SPL teams these days is bringing through players and managers from the Scottish lower leagues. Is this a quality or a financial thing?

Well said Colin, if we worried about who players played for we would not have seen the likes of Cooper or Coyne in C&A. On your last point Jimmy Calderwood said recently on radio Scotland that most of the foreign players that he brought in were as good as if not better than anyone available in Scotland he also said that they played for significantly less money which made them better value to the clubs. I would imagine that managers may be similar.

  5. McGhee had his chance, he couldn't wait to get the fuck out quick enough, time to leave that one well alone.

I totally agree with this. He had his chance and then fucked off to what he thought was a better job. That shows exactly what his judgement is like.

  6. So you want us to sit there and rely on the players to hump Aberdeen  Na pal the old guy getting what he deserves.

No what I would like to see is a murity displayed by the fans and not descend into the petty hurling of abuse that Shovelface got which as I said is what the media are expecting and what they will only report no matter what the score. If they don't get that bit then they need to tell the story of the game. :O

  7. To be honest I was not keen on him being at FP in the first place, when he took over last year I was in South Africa and thought a friend was taking the piss when he text me that Gannon was gone and Brown was in. It amazes me that 11 months on I am disappointed that he has gone but only because of the way it has happened and not because we have lost a fabulous manager. He will finish his career going the way of all the other idiots who have taken on the poisoned chalice of replacing Fergie while the 'Well will replace him and carry on in our own inimitable style by humping the sheepies on saturday in their own midden. :D

  8. Sorry if someone has already posted this but I think the best protest would be to completely ignore them. The press will be on the lookout for any excuse to throw some more scandal into the mix. By ignoring them and letting the players make the protest by humping that bunch of thieving sheep shaggers will completely confuse the hacks that will have braved the trip to the frozen wastelands.

Although I do like the 'We Are Only Here Out Of Common Courtesy' banner.

  9. I'm struggling to look beyond Adams and Stark at the moment.

Two managers that ensure football is played in the right way and thrive on developing youngsters.

I would have to agree that both of them look to be good options, however I am not convinced that we would be keen to pay compen for either of them unless the sheep shaggers come up with some compen for traitorous bastards.

  10. Did any of the team that finished second and third in the early 90s get a cap for Scotland ? I was thinking of the likes of McKinnon, Lambert O Donnell etc!

I think Davie Cooper only ever won 1 cap whilst playing for Motherwell and that was coming on as a sub!

Oh aye and Lasley for Scotland ;)

I think Cooper was picked for the 90 World Cup squad but got an injury near the end of the season.

  11. Maybe in America, but a load of shite here......you never see my boy, because he's constantly outside with his mates kicking a baw, the only fitba' he sees is when I drag him to Fir Park or force him to watch Scotland on the TV.

Well done that is how it should be ;) I wish more parents were like that then maybe we wouldn't be an obese country relying on over priced talent from other countries to play footie for us.

  12. whit? before sky you were lucky if you got one live game a week, these days you could pretty much watch live fitba 24/7 if you wanted to.

there's also a clear connection between players becoming 'less skilled' and fitter, players get less time on the ball and there's more emphasis on defending. a team of fitzpatricks would beat a teams forbeses every time.

also celtic won the european cup on the toss of a coin so it doesn't count

This is one of the problems with football these days it is on TV too much, so kids don't get the buzz of going to a football game to see their heroes because their heroes play football for some foreign team miles away in a different country in a different world. I used to go and see the 'Well almost every week as did many others and was never ruled by who was or wasn't playing on telly. That is what I meant by we saw more football, crowds of 14 and 15 K for games against Aberdeen, Dundee, Hearts not struggling to make 10K for a game in Europe.

As for Fitzpatrick versuses Forbes. Pettigrew could beat them both on most occassions but Bobby Graham would take them both anytime. :tumbleweed:

  13. None of those could lace Wullie McFadyen's boots or no doubt any of the late 20's to 30's teams.

What absolute bollocks comparing quality. Those 50 year olds, how many top league titles? How many Scottish Cups did you witness these players win for Motherwell?

Okay maybe they didn't win any titles or any cups  but that doesn't mean they were any worse than the team of today. By the way the 91 team are one of the best group of players I ever saw at Fir Park but they didn't have many who were outstanding although they did have a bit of class about them and incidentally they would have walked away with the Premier League if they had been up against the quality of this season. :O See the thing is that your modern player doesn't have the same ball skills as your old stager, yes they are faster but the likes of Pettigrew, Wark et cetera would adapt better to the modern day than vice versa. Some of the tackles that used to get thrown about would snap half of these prima donnas in two whilst Pettigrew et al bounced and got on with the game.

The absolute bollocks by the way is that you can't comment on these players because you never saw them in the flesh and TV doesn't do them or their peers justice and that is not a comment through rose tinted glasses. So just take the opinion of an older generation and respect it the same way that we respect yours

  14. but did joe wark ever have to face dougie mcdonald?

every team in scotland's fans (and probably all fans around the world) will tell you about the truly great players their teams used to have. i think it has more to do with the fact that people saw less fitba and had fewer ways of comparing players.

Get tae, if anything we saw more football and it was better football. Joe Wark might not have had to face McDonald but go and look up referees like Bobby Valentine and Tiny Wharton they make Dougie McDonald look like what he is an utter pussy.

st john - faddy - No where near as successful as the Saint was

mcloy - admitedly we've not had many top keepers but big randy might be the one

forsyth - mcculloch - Lee McCulloch???? Forsyth was a defender, McCulloch was a diver

pettigrew - clarky - No chance

wark - hammell will beat his record

deans - mcdonald - Only thing they have in common they both went to Celtic

Don't slag off the opinions of those who have seen all these players in the flesh and not heard or read about them.

  15. Ian St John - went on to be top player @ Liverpool

    Peter McLoy - International keeper

Tam Forsyth - International player lots of caps

Willie Pettigrew - International caps sold for £100k ( a lot of money back then)

    Joe Wark - God

Dixie Deans - Internatinalist went to the Tims for money

Not bad players at all and everyone I quoted would be in current team easily.

Both won the European Cup Winners Cup in 1972

Don't know how to multi quote but in the 70's and 80's we were only relegated twice and in comparison Hearts and Hibs who most would regard to have had many more better players than us over the same period have both been down twice as well.

I agree that some of the negativity is completely over the top but being an oldie too I can understand the frustration because there is no class player in this team. Loads of potential but at the moment no class.

  16. In my opinion.

As Captain, he should have been at the centre of the incident, supporting if not protecting Murphy, not sitting on his arse at the other end of the pitch.

The 4 Odense players who were standing on the penalty spot were intimidating Murphy, he should have had the support of his much more experienced Captain.

As you pointed out to someone earlier in this thread your opinion is your opinion but in the opinion of the majority of people in this thread your opinion is total and utter drivel. So give us all a break and change the record.

  17. I never liked Brown or Knox and I was disappointed when they got the job. However in the 8 months or so that they have been at FP I have totally changed my opinion. I have massive respect for what they have achieved so far and I now believe that the future is bright the future is Brown <_ src="%7B___base_url___%7D/uploads/emoticons/default_wallbash.gif" alt=":wallbash:">

  18. This Humphrey thing is gettin on my thruppenies!

He continually looks for the ball. he continually looks to take the opposition on - looks as if he fuckin loves it as well. Beats men, gets towards the bye line and gets it over if he can and he'll do it all day for us.

It's not his job after all of that effort to locate Sutton / blackman with his tracking device and slide rule it onto their napper. It's his job, for the most part, to throw it into the box at a height and to an area that our forwards should be in. On the occasions when he can get a quick look up and see that there's nobody there he stops until there's someone to eventually catch up with him.

For me he's doing all of that - it's the forward getting onto it part that's missing at the moment and that is not Humphrey's problem.

As johnstone says - if we can get someone to match his run and get towards the back post - we might start slaughtering teams

I totally agree I think that Humphrey is the most improved player in the team over the last year. His crossing is not perfect 100% of the time but hey none of us is perfect at work all the time. <_>

  19. Almost in agreement.

Sat in South Stand for 3 huge European games now - Dortmund, Nancy, Odense.... common theme lost them all!! Maye it's my fault for not getting in gear and getting ticket for DC before it sold out.

Nice to know that we now have the person to blame <_ src="%7B___base_url___%7D/uploads/emoticons/default_thumbup.gif" alt="">:wallbash:

  20. A close run thing for me but I thought Saunders just shaded Murphy and the Humph. I agree with what has been said about Humph he always crosses to the back post but we never seem to have anyone attacking from that angle. Blackman was in two minds about whether to head or kick and never really made up his mind, a few palyers took too long to make up their minds last night and I see no reason to have a go at anyone in particular. :wallbash:

As the game progressed I started getting to get the feeling that I had seen this movie before and that we wouldn't prosper as in the past. It was obvious that we don't have that bit of class that will allow us to progress in a tournament like this.

However, I enjoyed another wee sojourn in Europe with the 'Well and I look forward to the next. Hopefully that will be next year but one thing is for sure the rollercoaster ride that is being a 'Well fan is once again in full swing.

BTW we are the only Scottish team who got through a round in Europe this year and I can say that in the confidence that the h**s will probably be pointless in the Champions League. <_>
