  1. Good Luck DC and the best for the future.

Hope we get you see in C&A again in the future.

Gutted that we've lost him but can't grudge him his move. He has been through every emotion possible while with the Club and i am glad to see he got a move to somewhere he can start afresh and progress his career.

  2. You can have them posted mate... 99% of phone orders are posted! If you ordered it today I coulda brought it to you in person tomorrow as I am drving to Bradford then Manchester tomorrow :O

I am putting my journalist head on.

Media Officer from Motherwell travelling to Bradford and Manchester on a Sunday.

Must be doing an interview with our new signing Steven Ireland in Manchester and going to Bradford to get a decent curry?

  3. I am slowly getting my head around the idea of selling the crown jewels.

I still don't like it but if we are getting £700k+ for DC, I'd like t think that Burnley if true have offered us a similiar or better figure and whatever we get for Quinn we could be looking at anywhere up to £2million hopefully coming in with the majority of it being given to the manager.

I've seen posts on here saying that we should've been looking at bidding for Leigh Griffiths and a few others that Dundee have bought. If these sort of players are good enough then we should be able to buy about 8 or 9 players if £125k as spent on Griffiths is anything to go by.

We have known since the start of the pitch fiasco that McGhee's budget would'e been dealt a severe blow this season. However since then we have a good chance of getting through 2 qualifying rounds of the Europa League. (Well slim chance of geeting past the 2nd). If we can do that and draw a bigger team (maybe Roma) then we can supplement the coffers as well.

Obviously we also need to wait and see what happens with the tv rights before any manager would gte his hands on all that is brought in but it should hopefully be enough to give him a decent wage budget, especially with the others that have left freeing up wages as well.

  4. there was more but i edited it for reasons of politeness.

seriously, hoping we draw 1-1 against a welsh league team at home, what's that all about? if you want to be petty use your flight down to wales to go and put a dug shite through their letterbox but don't root against the 'well.

This time next week we might be happy to take a 1-1 draw against the Welsh "minnows". Especially if Coach and DC are off.

I would hope that Sutton and A.N. Other can grab a couple of goals but can we garauntee keeping them out at the other end?

  5. The Express are carrying the DC to Bristol C as well. Worried that they're only mentioning £600K though.

TARGET; David Clarkson could go to Bristol City

    Thursday June 25,2009

    By Scott Burns

SCOTLAND striker David Clarkson is a £600,000 summer target for Bristol City.

Express Sport understands that talks have already taken place between the Championship outfit and Motherwell over the possible move.

City have still to table an offer but they know what Well want for their star asset and last season s top scorer.

Robins boss Gary Johnson has to decide whether to match their terms, knowing he could pick up Clarkson on freedom of contract this time next year.

Cardiff City are also interested in the Well star but they don t have the same financial muscle and manager Dave Jones has to sell before he can buy.

Motherwell are still searching for a new manager but are keen to sell Clarkson rather than lose him for nothing.

The Fir Park outfit are also in the same boat with Paul Quinn and Mark Reynolds in the last year of their deals.

Any money coming in would also allow Mark McGhee s successor to bring in his own new faces and to stamp his own authority on the squad.

Fir Park chairman John Boyle is still in the process of appointing his new manager.

The club have already interviewed Steve Staunton and Lawrie Sanchez and held talks with former Middlesbrough No. 2 Malcolm Crosby and ex-Stockport boss Jim Gannon.

Gannon is expected to be at Fir Park over the next 24 hours to hold face-to-face talks with Boyle.

Club captain Stephen Craigan is also likely to be involved in any new set-up.

Well hope to have their new boss in place before they kick off their European campaign next Thursday against Welsh side Llanelli.

If DC is off, I wish the bst of luck to the lad and thanks for the great service he has given our club.

That doesn't mean that I ain't going to be gutted though.

Looks like we may need the likes of McCart or Nijholt involved yet.

  6. No riddle.

Look at the edit stating wrong thread and a smile next to it.

My brother is waiting to hear about a mangers role in a shop in Edinburgh. This thread is about managers that we'd get.

So I thought I'd lighten the mood of the thread as the last couple of posts before it were basically decrying posters for having opinions.

  7. New manager will be announced tomorrow.

Have stayed pretty quiet on this as my brother is on the shortlist of people to get the position.

He says he is hopeful of getting the role and can't wait to get working with his assistant manager.

Apparently the shop has a nice outlook with Edinburgh Castle in the background.

  8. The Sun is reporting that Cardiff have sounded Motherwell out for a move for DC if McCormack leaves them for the Premiership.

No quotes in article but says DC is valued at £500K with one year remaining on his current contract.

  9. Just having a quick look around the paper sites to see who we're being linked with and found this from the Sunday Herald site.

It's an interview with Luc that provides a little bit more info on what he has being doing and what he sees his next step as being.

    Terminator salvation

LUC Nijholt has urged Motherwell to get in touch with him regarding the vacant manager's job at the club. The Dutchman, who is still fondly remembered from his role in the club's 1991 Scottish Cup winning team, is out of work following a successful season as assistant manager to Co Adriaanse at Austrian champions Red Bull Salzburg and has emerged as an intriguing and credible candidate to replace Mark McGhee, who left for Aberdeen this week.

His competition for the role includes Gary McAllister, Derek Adams, Terry Butcher and Chris McCart but Nijholt has told the Sunday Herald he would be interested in a return to Scottish football - assuming, that is, that the Fir Park club's board can match his ambitions.

From his time as a youth coach at AZ Alkmaar, to a three-year stint as a manager in his own right at down-at-heel Dutch club Stromvogels/Telstar, Nijholt has prided himself on developing youngsters. But a little bit of cash for experienced players would help too. And with two other nameless clubs, neither of them Dutch, also interested in his services, Motherwell - already facing a July 2 start to their Europa League campaign - have another incentive to get things moving sooner rather than later.

"Absolutely it appeals to me to get back into working as a manager again," Nijholt said. "I have to think about it, but I definitely want to come back to Scotland one day. Whether it is this time or the next time I don't know yet. I need to speak to my UK agent this weekend and work out if I will apply. On the other side, Motherwell have my number because I applied two years ago for the job. They should have my number somewhere.

"It also depends what kind of future the club has," he added. "I am used to working with young players - all those I work with are always pleased and they always give me a lot of compliments - but it depends on what the club want to achieve."

For all the ifs, buts and maybes, the Dutchman's mind this week already seemed to be working out the logistics of the role. Nijholt kept his home in Holland during his season in Salzburg, but - save his 19-year-old son Gianluca, who is a youth team player at FC Utrecht - would have no problems uprooting the rest of his family should he end up in Scotland.

"The last time my family stayed in Holland, when I went to Austria, so that is key as well," Nijholt said. "They will be travelling as well if the club decides that it wants to take me."

Nijholt was a steely character during his playing days - YouTube footage exists of him inviting Roy Keane to have a square go during his time at Swindon - and a season in the presence of coaching royalty in the form of Adriaanse has clearly rubbed off on him.

That all came to an end when Adriaanse declined the Ajax and Alkmaar jobs to take a sabbatical from the game, but the 47-year-old Dutchman feels Motherwell would be landing a manager with the same belief in attacking football and a strong disciplinarian streak if they go down the foreign route.

"At the moment Co is on holiday,"

Niholt said. "He wants to have a wee break although whether it is a sabbatical or just a few months we don't know yet. But he told me before I started working with him that one or two years working with me then you go your own way' because he rated me quite highly and said that I had to be sure to move on to be a coach or a manager somewhere.

"We worked together at AZ when I was doing the youth policy there and we are quite similar.

We like attacking football and we are disciplined coaches. In terms of personality we are different, but as coaches we are similar. That is the reason why we have worked together twice already. This year we reached the championship so we managed to reach our targets."

Nijholt would be a popular, if somewhat left-field, choice among the Motherwell fans. In addition to his failed attempt at the job prior to the appointment of McGhee, he was back at Fir Park as recently as last summer to participate in the Phil O'Donnell tribute match. It was an emotional occasion, especially considering that O'Donnell named one of his sons Luke, at least partly in his team-mate's honour. He is reasonably up to speed with the club's playing staff and recent results, and his English is almost flawless.

"I played a part in an excellent team and an excellent squad, we were a lot of friends together," Nijholt recalled. "And of course, the biggest prize we won was the Scottish Cup in 1991. I am always keen to watch how Motherwell are doing. They didn't start that well this season but they finished very well."

The only downside of Nijholt's CV is the fact that he has only spent three years outright as a manager, during which he narrowly missed the Eredivisie play-offs during his time at Stromvogels/Telstar. "It was one of the poorest clubs in Holland," he explained. "We had to work with young players, and although we played some lovely football, we needed just a little but more money to spend. But it was still a good experience. I picked a small club because I wanted the experience of being a manager. I could just have signed another contract there but I decided to move on, because three years was a long time for me."

Nijholt's fiery playing style at Fir Park earned him the nickname The Terminator'. He might just be the man to end their search for a new coach.

Motherwell chairman John Boyle eyes a caretaker as he casts net wide for new manager

Jun 13 2009 By Chris Roberts

MOTHERWELL last night vowed to install a new manager as early as next week - but he won't be the man to lead them into the new season.

Chairman John Boyle has cast his net far and wide to bring in a replacement for Mark McGhee, who yesterday left the club to take charge at Aberdeen.

Boyle is refusing to rush or discount anybody just as he did when he pulled a rabbit out of the hat to land McGhee in the summer of 2007.

But the club need to appoint a new boss rapidly to put the players through their paces when they return to training in just over a week ahead of their Europa League qualifier on July 2.

Captain Stephen Craigan is favourite to take charge of the team but that will only be a short term fix until the board come up with a new full-time boss.

A source close to the club said: "The last time, we took a conscious decision to start with a clean sheet of paper when we ended up with Mark.

"We will again be casting the net widely to do that. There are no names on the shortlist right now.

We will probably end up appointing a new manager on an interim arrangement to take pre-season training.

"Getting a new manager will take longer to complete."

Chairman John Boyle praised McGhee and Scott Leitch for the job they did at Fir Park. He said: "We are extremely sorry to see both Mark and Scott leave for Aberdeen, however it is unrealistic for us to stand in the way of their career ambitions.

"Both were great servants and brought us considerable success. They will be missed by everyone at club and we wish them well in their new roles.

"The task begins to find a new manager. We will quickly address what arrangements can be put in place to look after the team during the early European campaign."

  11. That confuses me.

Does Leitchy have connections with Aberdeen I have missed?

Being an assistant doesn't always follow that you'll be the next manager. If he really wants to be a manager of Aberdeen would he not have been better taking the Mothewell job and proving what he could do himself?

  12. Perhaps they have, but anything I have read has been purely about Mark McGhee and Aberdeen.

If he has sad anything postive then fair enough, but John Hughes didn't see to have anytrouble getting his views on his time at Falkirk into the press.

I would expect to see more ofhis views on Motherwell in nthe papers tomorrow. The TV Interviews tends to be about the club he's just signed for.

I mean if we were to take Ally McCoist or Neil Lennon on as manager would you really be prefer to see the first tv interviews going on about their time at their previous club or what they intend to do with their time at Motherwell?

I know which I'd prefer, most of the stuff Yogi said about Falkirk wasn't printed until the day after and any interview showing it didn't go up until the following day.

As far as the TV is concerned the news is the appointment and the future very rarely is it the past.
