  1. Outside of Rangers and Celtic the Scottish Premiership is garbage. Hearts and St. Johnstone were pish last year and still finished above us. Kilmarnock, in the last 5 months of the season were already falling back under Clark, they will fall further back this season. And I suspect Heckingbottom at Hibs is going to be found out as the arrogant little toerag that he is. So that's 4 of the 7 that finished above us last season. The quality in the league is low, there are teams that have 4 times our support that play SHOCKING football, any team that can play a bit of football, score goals and get a bit of consistency is going to do well.
  2. Dumbarton have been taking pumpings and are really struggling to put a team in the pitch so you'd hope we can at least match what Morton and QoS did to them. Gillespie is nailed down number one now but perhaps you could give Carson some competitive game time in the next two matches although you'd hope he didn't have a lot to do. For me Tait has been poor over the last 6 months or so, so perhaps Grimshaw could come in and turn the heat up a bit for a first team place. I'd like to see Maguire get a shot at the 'Gorrin' position. For me he has more quality on the ball than Donnelly. The other positions seem fine, you don't want to make too many changes and disrupt any rhythm we've got going, especially up front. For me Scott has been excellent since coming into the team, I think he's a real talent, and with no established striker at the club, for me he is the number 1 right now. Tonight will be another chance for him to get a goal or two and further up his confidence.
  3. For me Campbell and Hylton were the top performers. I'd separate them by the fact that Hylton also scored a goal. Hylton it is.
  4. Remember too that Stranraer should have won in normal time and missed a couple of sitters. My worry about this seasons team, besides the 'Gorrin' position is at centre back. I like the look of Gallagher in the two matches we've seen but I'm not Dunne's biggest fan, as I've said before, he's fine when he can depend on pace and strength to defend but when he comes up against technically good players he gets hung out to dry and then behind him if there is an injury is Hartley who's not good enough either if we want to improve on finishing around 7th/8th/9th. With teams like Kilmarnock, Hearts, Hibs looking like they might be going backwards as well as a hardly formidable St. Johnstone side, I think we have a decent shot at finishing Top 6 this season but I'd like to see another centre back come in because you can't go through a season with one strong centre back. I know we've probably spent our transfer budget at this stage but if I could have one wish come true.....maybe I'll find an eye lash.
  5. He did more than a decent job. Turnbull, Hastie and Gorrin transformed the season. And while Gorrin could be rash he was 45th on the leagues worst discipline list compared to McHugh who was 3rd. Gorrin didn't do the flashy stuff like Turnbull and Hastie but finding an adequate replacement is going to be crucial to the upcoming season, especially when we play similar level teams.
  6. Yep was McGhee. Frear made his debut in Jan 2017 coming on as a sub in a 0-2 defeat to Rangers. The other players brought in in that window were Zak Jules and Stephen Pearson.
  7. Donnelly is better than McHugh but not as good as Gorrin. Ultimately I'm not sure if he's technically assured enough on the ball. As I've said before I'd like to see Maguire get a shot in this position.
  8. Managers are only as good as their results. If we lose the first five league matches he'll be under as much pressure as ever. Personally though I'm pleased he's put into place all the things I said he should have done a year before he did and that we are all the better for it. Perhaps I should charge a consultancy fee? For the record Robinson's actual league record is 32 wins from 88 for a 36% win ratio. It should be noted though that his win ratio has been pretty low prior to 2019. Since then we've won 10 out of 17 with the emergence of Turnbull playing a big part in that..
  9. Fairly comprehensive dismantling of Morton, was 4 going on 5, 6, 7, 8. We should probably reserve judgement until we are playing teams at the same level but in my opinion the standard of player in the squad is much higher than it has previously been under Robinson. From home growns like Maguire, Semple and Scott to the guys brought in like Hylton, Seedorf and Gallagher. For me there are plenty of positive signs there. Even the type of football we are playing, playing the ball out from the back with the centre halves or short passes from the goalkeeper to the full backs, is almost unrecognisable to the type of football we were playing this time last season.
  10. Seedorf and Hylton changed the game but over the 90 minutes it has to be Allan Campbell.
  11. Just to make the older fans feel even older I noticed yesterday that only two of our players who took the field yesterday were even born when we last won the Scottish Cup and they both had yet to celebrate their first birthday. Tait and Gallagher for the record.
  12. Carroll looked OK going forward but defensively maybe not so much. It was only one game but the impression I got that the left hand side of our defence might be a weak spot.
  13. I'd like to see Maguire play there too.
  14. The introduction of Seedorf and Hylton completely transformed the game and turned us from huffer puffers to...actually quite an impressive football team. Throughout the game we had most of the possession unfortunately we didn't know what to do with it and didn't really carry much threat. In fact it was QoS who looked more likely to score with one hacked off the line and a good one handed saved by Gillespie from Doobie's shot among their efforts. QoS didn't really carry any threat second half but neither did we. Cole struggled to get into the game and Ilic barely contributed. Scott up front was isolated and no one was linking up or making runs from midfield. When Seedorf came on he almost immediately put the boosters on and flew past his man. It lifted the crowd and his team mates. Suddenly were were playing great football and looking threatening. Fair to say QoS looked out of gas in the closing stages but none the less, Hylton and Seedorf were great to watch and more importantly actually linking up with Scott. Wasn't much in the penalty but I did think it was one. Seedorf took his goal well and Hylton's was a screamer. Overall a mixed bag, as already said Seedorf and Hylton looked exciting and pacey but Carroll was skinned a couple of times, Dunne is still Dunne and I'm not convinced by Donnelly in the 'Gorrin' role. More of the last half hour would be nice.
  15. I was calling him out for being snarky towards me for no reason by using the benefit of hindsight without even take into consideration the context of my actual comment - ie, we should play a couple of younger fringe players. The fact that I forgot Queen of the South were in the play off final and Maguire wasn't available or that we were 3-0 up wasn't really central to the point I was making. I deliberately retorted in a similarly shitty and annoying manner, completely aware I was doing so, ie, as had been done to me. If you need anything else explained to you that's not literal or surface level let me know. But the truth is I actually don't mind Wee Yin as he doesn't seem to hold a grudge or belong to some clique of midgets who are all angry at me for discrediting them so many times. Long ball bad - correct. Robinson's midfield acquisitions shite - correct. Kipre's second contract - correct. Play technically superior youth players - correct. Won't win with McHugh - correct. I think that pretty much covers all my major arguments over the last year or so. It's that sort of intelligent prescience that enabled me to win the Pie & Bovril prediction league. **kisses** see you August.
  16. Never been to Annan, Dumfries or the new Dumbarton stadium so should get at least one new ground ticked off.
  17. I like him as a player but he's 21 now. Needs to step up soon.
  18. Would go for Gillespie today. Had an excellent season since he came into the team.
  19. I don't see it though as he's not featured. The thing about it though was the 1 match he did play, despite it being one of the worst team performances of the season, I thought he was our best player that day.
  20. Oh yeah, probably. The play offs are here, there and everywhere at the moment. Still think we could have given a couple of younger players a start and give them a taste of first team football, especially as quite a few players are off at the end of the season or haven't been in great form.
  21. Livingston were probably the better team when we went 2-0 up. Poor defensively again with Dunne again not covering himself in glory and Livingston actually had more chances than we had up to that point. Great wee 'off the training ground' style goal though. Livingston then went into holiday mode and it looked like we were going to give them a drubbing until HT came and we went into holiday mode. Bit gutted Turnbull didn't get his hat trick. Donnelly playing the Gorrin role and not sure it quite worked out. Few misplaced passes and didn't seem to really get on the ball very often, it was only one match though. Will be interesting to see the second Livvie goal on TV as it looked miles offside to me.
  22. I would have liked Maguire or Livingstone to get a start. Was it a good game on your laptop?
  23. Aldred has been our best defender in his time here but we've conceded 3 or more goals 9 times this league season and Aldred played in all but one of them. As I've said before the defence needs a complete re-work. This summer needs to be a rip it up and start again one. Gallagher is coming in, we need another starter centre back.
