  1. Mannus is an inevitable rumour but I hope we steer clear as I've never been particularly convinced by him. Regarding some of the Scottish Championship players mentioned above, I expect Aberdeen and Hibs to be vying for the signature of Mallan and Morgan. Quitongo might be an outside shout if we have scope for a transfer fee. Luke Leahy is a player I've liked for some time. Hopefully we are in the running for him. Assuming we stay in the premier league, it will be interesting to see our transfer policy in the summer. At a time when we are likely to lose our 'identity' with a few club legends potentially moving on, I'd like to see us dabble in the Scottish market once again. I've had enough of dross like Clay and Blyth telling us they can't wait to play for such a big club.
  2. Surely all clauses would be related to his time at Sheffield United?
  3. Delighted for Murphy. Derek Adams also promoted today. Looks to have done a terrific job at Plymouth.
  4. I rate Hartley but by his own admission he had run out of ideas, similar to McCall's time here. He should be able to get a decent job soon enough. From a Motherwell perspective we just need to focus on ourselves. If we can't secure safety with the run of fixtures we've been given, then we'll be deservedly relegated.
  5. A Scottish striker that has played at a high level and is within reach of a provincial Scottish club? Genuinely struggle to think of anyone.
  6. Very encouraging performances from Campbell and Frear but the best player on the park was Scott McDonald. Nod to Lionel who significantly helped turn the game in our favour.
  7. Far from out of trouble but today gives us hope. Hope that we can score goals and hope that when things get tough, we have a wee bit of mental strength about us. Highlight of the day was seeing Campbell make such a positive contribution. I thought he got off to a ropey start (not helped by the anonymous Pearson) but he went on to put in the composed and tenacious performance I'd expect from him. He's a terrific prospect if we manage him well. Thought we looked a far better outfit when we went 442 and got Ainsworth on. Hopefully the return of Tait will see us revert to a formation that gets the best out of our attacking players.
  8. For one reason or another, it's a recurring theme. Players out for longer than initially projected.
  9. Given the 'controversy' around the imbalance of old firm visits at the start of the season, I think the league will do its best to ensure we (and anyone else affected) finishes with 19/19. Accies and Inverness away are nailed on, hopefully the latter isn't midweek.
  10. A few weeks before he was sacked when he was asked about his views on Director of Football role.
  11. According to McGhee, Burrows dealt with all player contracts. He's also played a key role in hiring McGhee and Robinson.
  12. Long ball football leaves too much to chance and doesn't benefit the few talented players we have. Regardless of how inadequate the midfield acquisitions of McGhee and Burrows were, we can surely adopt a game plan that gets the ball to the feet of Ainsworth, Frear and McDonald in advanced positions.
  13. Flow also talked up Baraclough and McGhee...
  14. Hopefully we can revert to a proper 442 with Ainsworth and Frear on the wings. The return of Moult and Tait would be most welcome.
  15. If we get relegated, Robinson will be away. I'd also expect 1 or 2 Directors to walk if they stay true to their word.
  16. Burrows and co must be starting to sweat on the decisions they've made in the last 12 months.
  17. Are the WS annual accounts available online? I've lost track of the various transfers/loans (this doesn't sound like a loan) and didn't realise the society balance was so low. The club must have took in upwards of £150k from the cup game at Ibrox, where would we be without that? Greater scrutiny needs to be put on those running the club finances.
  18. Am I reading the finances section correct? £124k in the bank with £120k on its way to the club?
  19. The increase in crowd for a midweek game pleasantly surprised me. Hopefully we can get back towards a core support of 4K.
  20. I'm concerned how we'll manage to cope with the pressure of the Inverness game and think we have to pick up something at Firhill. Patrick Thistle will come into this game buoyed by an impressive 7 game unbeaten run and having benefited from resting 5 players midweek. Tactically, Robinson has some big calls to make although I think he may continue to play with 3 at the back to match up with Thistle. Personally, I'd like to see us revert to a conventional 442 with McDonald the focal point for the hold-up play and our wingers positioned further up the back. Fingers crossed Moult makes it but I suspect he won't.
  21. Tonight is the first time I've seen us from the Dundee humping. I thought we were relatively well organised and played with decent enough tempo at times. Unfortunately, we lack the required craft and guile to create and resorted to route one stuff for much of the match. Continue to approach games in such a manner and it'll be an absolute lottery as to whether we stay up. Regarding individual performances, I thought Bowman was our motm and McHugh continues to impress. As we all know, McGhee has left us with a midfield that isn't good enough. Clay is powderpuff and Pearsons' jaunts to India appear to have caught up with him. Meanwhile, Cadden's value is at risk of depreciating every time he plays. Fingers crossed Moult is fit for Saturday.
  22. Get the impression the players are spending more hours on the training field since McGhee departed. Hopefully we are fresh enough for Wednesday after running ourselves into the ground today.
