McDonald and Cadden were done yesterday but their attributes and continued work ethic was irreplaceable. I loved seeing a knackered Skippy pulling the ball out the air with his chest and then buying us time. For whatever reason he isn't everyone's cup of tea but in my opinion his quality as a centre forward is the best we've had since Tommy Coyne.

For the umpteenth time his season, Scott McDonald. Class above anyone else on the park and continuously runs himself into the ground.

Well that was much more like it today. It's took a while to get to the 433 that we naturally associate with McGhee. I thought Skippy, Moult and Johnson showed that there is significant potential in them playing as a fluid front three. Their movement and work ethic was excellent. The Ripley error was the only significant blot on a very comfortable win. After failing to build on an impressive win at Tannadice hopefully we can get some momentum going at Hamilton next week.

Maybe so but there can't be many Motherwell minded people left with the suitable experience to drive through the fan ownership plan.

'Us' was poor grammar on my part. However I think the majority would agree that our financial planning (top 6 + cup run + player sale) did not fit well with a provincial club that had to live within its means and put Motherwell in unnecessary danger. The left-field appointment of the inexperienced Baraclough was an absolute mile out given our precarious league position when McCall left, no need for hindsight there. I have no doubt that Weir is a good guy that has done his all for Motherwell. However some very poor decisions have been made during his time at the club.

Put us right then. Am I wrong in saying he wanted newco in SPL and was involved in spending that took us close to admin, was on the panel for Baraclough, recommended McGhee (got that from on here) and supported the LH takeover. Would be pleased if these points were wide of the mark.

So the man that played a significant role in hiring Baraclough, the man that recommended McGhee, the man that wanted newco in the premier league, the man that overseen a ridiculous bonus structure, the man that was party to bringing Les to the club under a cloud of secrecy, has resigned? Shame.

I'd go with that team too, although you could play either Ainsworth or Johnson on the right and make a change after an hour. Got a feeling Skippy will miss this. If so, chance for Faddy alongside Moult.

A number of unfounded rumours in recent months but it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if Les walks away from his 5 year plan. How he gets his money back is another matter.

Play Lionel from now to the end of the season and he'll get 10+ goals and/or assists. McGhee needs to somehow find a place for him in the team and in general do a better job at rotating his creative players without unbalancing the team. I like Marvin but teams just double up on him as he is a sole threat. Been saying it since early Jan but playing him for 90mins every week is not doing him or the club any favours. Both Ainsworth and Thomas should have had more game time.

Few folk critical of Johnson. I'm a big fan of his but I think McGhee is doing Marvin nor the team any favours by playing him 90 minutes every week. Particularly when we set up for him to be our primary creative force. Ideally Marvin would be getting onto through balls from a creative midfielder (that we failed to sign). Instead he is expected to pick up the ball and create, which is not his game.

Fail to win here and the dream of mid-table obscurity is very unlikely.
