There's nothing better than seeing a youth product making his mark but we've also been guilty of hanging onto some for too long, McHugh being the prime example in recent times. In my mind, Lawless is the only one that's went on to prove Motherwell were wrong to let him go and from what we were told, this was purely due to finance.

I was convinced by Lasley from his debut at Ibrox. It quickly became evident that he wasn't scared to get tore in and was decent enough carrying the ball forward. He made big impressions in numerous games, playing his part in running the midfield against good Rangers and Celtic teams during his first spell. Think he'd have progressed even quicker at Motherwell if it wasn't for Butcher playing him out in the right. There's nothing wrong in developing youngsters that provide little more than adequate backup. Personally I don't think Leitch reaches that level from what I've seen, whether that's been due to injuries I don't know. Maybe he's someone that needs to go down the Craigan route and work his way back up.
-
He's just never looked up to it in my opinion. Forbes had quality on the ball, Carswell could get about the park but ultimately neither were capable of making it at this level. Not sure what Leitch offers, admittedly he's never had a long enough run to prove otherwise.

Based on a few visits to the u20s and watching the highlights each week, Cadden seems the obvious candidate to take on the Grimshaw role on the right of midfield. He's a good athlete with decent technique and vision. I can only assume the management team don't think he is ready for the intensity of first team football... Think it's safe to say Leitch has no future at the club, not surprising really.

And if we had a half decent keeper, we could possibly cut out another 33%...
-
Aye we've had the 6-1s to Hibs, Rangers and Dundee United iirc. Unless I've blocked something out, this is our biggest defeat since the Celtic 7-1. Hopefully we get a chance to make amends against Hearts in the Scottish Cup.
-
Aye, McGhee seems to rotate his bench. I thought Watt was going to get a chance after getting drafted on at Parkhead but it's not materialised. If McGhee fancied Law in midfield, Watt (or indeed Kennedy) seems like an obvious choice over Chalmers and the Hammell reshuffle.
-
Still struggling to comprehend how Chalmers got propelled into the team ahead of Cadden, Laing and Watt.
-
Utterly embarrassing result. The absence of Lasley and Grinshaw is not an excuse for losing 6-0 to a half decent Hearts team.
-
No like Mark to get carried away. At least his self-promoted 900th game didn't result in his biggest ever pumping.
-
The idea of putting our right back into centre midfield, our left back to right back and a guy from the cold to left back appears to be going against us. Move to Anfield just got further away.
-
The 4 defenders usually go through a drill.
-
Think that lineup has thrown as all, I assumed Chalmers played left back for the u20s ok Tues. No clearer on how we are going to lineup. Not Hammell in midfield surely...

Falkirk offers a fine springboard for young talent. Good luck to the boy, Louis Laing has never quite recovered from that night.
-
He could have earned decent money down south. And if successful, would now be on really good money.
-
If at all possible, Nicky Law would fit perfectly into the current setup. Terrific talent who made a bad decision in terms of career progression,

Do players out on loan still get to play for u20s? Never noticed that before. Regard midfield, 1st team football is some way off but I gather Allan Campbell is one that the coaching staff are keen on.
-
I think that could work in our favour going forward.

I'm not a fan of McDonald in midfield but it may be a case of needs must and it was proven to work at Ibrox. Yes he had a nightmare by all accounts at Tynecastle but he's much sharper now than he was then. If lasley was available, I'd be replacing Grimshaw with Cadden who is comfortable on the right. With Lasley missing though, more restructuring is required which may lead to both wingers playing. Their two fullbacks are rotten at defending.
-
Looks like Preston have been keen on him for a few months. Fair play to Grimshaw, he came up to an unknown environment, applied himself excellently and now has his just rewards. Wish him well.
-
This was always going to be difficult with Lasley missing but it's just got a whole lot harder. If McGhee can somehow pull off a masterstroke in midfield then I'd play both wingers with Skippy dropping a bit deeper. Suspect we'll lose this by a couple.

United sold Ben Pearson, former under 21 poty, to Preston for 100k the other day after being on loan at Barnsley. Might be a similar move on the cards. Saturday just got a whole lot tougher but we can't afford to gamble on a quick fix like we did with Jake Taylor before heading to Tynecastle in August.
-
That's a sore one. Terrific player that provided us with some much needed balance. He'll be hard to replace.

It's been a few years since I moved from the East to the back row of the Cooper. So up until the weekend, could you get away with standing behind the barrier for the bulk of the game? Stewards used to pretty tetchy if you attempted to stand there for a few minutes.
