Where referees are concerned anything goes. Its not unknown for a referee to tell his linesmen before kick off that he won't truck any advice......stick to shies, by kicks, corners and offsides.

Same could be said for Liam Kelly. Crosses are the weak point of his game but we actively invite them as part of our game plan.

This is it for me. We didn't play well for the first 42 minutes and made exactly the same mistakes, and had exactly the same weaknesses, as we did and had in the remainder of the game. It was only a matter of time before Sevco scored but few of us would have predicted the team would crumble as it did. For much of the game our strikers played in midfield or deeper so why not select midfielders to play there? We seemed determined to cram all of our players in our own box at times and that sums up our attitude. Not good enough.

I'm afraid that this result is down to the manager, pure and simple. Our weaknesses today have been discussed ad nauseum for months on this board. Yes midfeidl has been very one paced and quite honestly posted missing. Kelly's weakness in the air is becoming a real problem as we've seen in recent games.

I'd hate to be one of our strikers today - a thankless task. If we're going to pack the midfield make sure its with midfielders.

Its Madden's call end of. The linesman can only advise, and in this case he may have done. However the referee can choose to overrule his linesman and many do so. The linesman cannot overrule his referee.

I usually agree with you MJC but not about this. For as long as I can remember generations of Well fans have said that referees give the gruesome twosome advantages and I don't doubt it. I don't know why but they do. You cite in that cup final Scott "I felt a touch so I went down" Sinclair. In the exact same game Louis Moult was impeded, more than Sinclair was, as he raced towards goal in open play in the penalty box.......no penalty. That says it all for me.

Correct but I can't recall the last game I watched in which jerseys were not pulled in the penalty box. Like foul throws and booting the ball away they happen all the time but are rarely punished.

I'm with you all the way on that Allan. The SFA totally ignores the fact that football is an entertainment industry and the paying customers should be given more consideration in terms of major refereeing explanations. VAR is a great step forward but the devil will be in the detail i.e. how it is used and where it is used. I've been saying for years that the SFA and now the SPFL are not fit for purpose and need a radical overhaul, but as you say thats not happening anytime soon. For various reasons, including the identity of our opponents, Madden's decisions on Wednesday evening have not been scrutinised in the media.
