  1. The betting commission asked Motherwell not to play the 26 year old until they had closed the case but the club refused claiming there had been no evidence to suggest that the former Tranmere player was involved in any way.

I know this is not your direct quote Jim but its extremely interesting and something no-one has picked up on. Now, we were told months ago that the SFA requested MFC not to play Steve Jennings. This is the first time I've seen that the Betting Commission asked us not to select him. Is it an error on behalf of the Express ie it was the SFA or was the original story wrong ie it was indeed the Betting Commission?

    Can anyone clarify this?

  2. Tell them to chase themselves, they can't even put fair referees on a park so they have no right interfering in our team selection until Jenno has been proven guilty. I very much doubt that will happen therefore we could conceivably lose the services of an important player on someone else's say so. Innocent until proven guilty not apply to the SFA? They can't even see what's in front of them, Gary O'Connor for example.

Seconded. What would happen if this "ban" on us fielding him is applied, runs for many months (thus depriving us of his services long term) and then charges are not pursued or he was found not guilty? I think we and the player would have a very strong case for compensation against the SFA. We're not Celtic though.

    Innocent until proven guilty.

  3. I just think for security reasons as much as anything i don't think any away supporter would be able to gain access to the club's main office.

You're probably right. However this situation is ludicrous. Clubs are asking fans to hand over £21 or whatever but are not willing to entertain any feedback/complaints. Now I'm not suggesting for one minute that if a supporter turns up without warning at a club's main office they should have the right to meet the Chairman or whoever on request, but clubs should have some mechanism in place to receive complaints in person. Even if the Head Steward was not willing to give a paying customer the opportunity to lodge a complaint in person then the least they should have done was to take the complainants phone number/email address and promise them a representative of United would call them back to discuss their gripe.

What United must realise is that now, the perceptions that quite a few Well fans have of their club is based solely or largely on the behaviour of one steward, albeit a supervisor. In a large organisation, its well recognised the enormous damage that one unsympathetic or rude receptionist or telephone operator can cause.

Still we must be patient and wait to see what reply the lads receive from United.

  4. I think the other tactic is to be a pain in the arse. If you get no reply or a sort of reply that tells you nothing keep at it.

Yes, I'd keep at it if you don't get any early success. Its the kind of situation that will gather more and more support if its handled in the correct way. The first step though is an unpublicised letter to the club. If the organisation I work for received a letter like that all hell would break loose.

In terms of the stewards suggesting or insinuating that the group has "previous" I think the onus would be on them to prove that.

    Good letter.

    Two other points~:

Why not mention your travelling costs to Dundee? Lay it on a bit thick - ie most of us don't earn a fortune / some of us are students and it cost us £x that we can't afford to throw away.

You seem to be sticking to the facts, which is good, but be careful that it doesn't read like a witch hunt against "Wendy" - that could just be enough to turn the recipient against you - I know its a fine to tread. .

I would say that you have a very good case. Good luck.

If you don't receive an acceptable response then copy it to the media. Are any of you guys members of the Trust perchance? If so you could pursue it through them.

  6. Is it fair to say transfer talk unsettled him? [/devil's advocate]

It may have had some effect Haggis, but its hard to quantify. Being played out of position certainly isn't helping his game though. Once again last Saturday he had a roving role and was popping up all over the place. It does make life difficult for colleagues like Michael Higdon, Nicky Law and Stevie Hammell though. On a few occasions at Tannadice these lads played seemingly poor passes to him but in reality it was because they couldn't predict with any degree of certainty where he would go/what he would do.

  7. If the people responsible for bringing a drum, flags, banners etc. into the ground have the common courtesy and maturity to contact the Club they are visiting BEFORE the game to gain permission and iron out any difficulties with their staff, yet STILL get refused entry after they appear to be given the thumbs up, I'm not sure what they are doing up in Dundee. Very disappointing to hear.

X2 Maybe also worth contacting MFC to pursue this issue through club channels. This very point needs emphasising.

  8. We were (mostly) denied entry with flags/drum even after clarification these were allowed. The stewards began to pick people out individually and state that they would be "a risk to H&S inside the stadium" and one by one we weren't allowed to enter the ground. After arguing for about 20-30 mins we decided if one wasn't going in, no-one was (bar a few who'd entered before this happened). Their H&S representative in particular was a total prick, enforcing "her stewards" to block the gates to anyone who got off our bus so she could grant them access one by one if she thought they'd cause no harm in the stadium. Even when we told her we were going round to the office to complain she was straight on her radio ensuring all stewards ensured no 'Well fans were allowed near the offices in the Main Stand. Apparently the continuous beating of the drum and vigorous waving of our flags, she'd decide who was allowed in and who wasn't. Adopted the one out - all out attitude before we even got in.

Even the police were trying to get her down from her high horse, backing us up saying we weren't causing any harm and only trying to do good things inside the stadium. Sadly she wasn't for listening to anyone today, so none of us got in. Big thanks to the OB up there I guess, helped us out a lot with this lass on her authority trip.

Managed to get 3 of us into the home end with a spray-painted banner held up at half time saying "HEAVY HANDS = EMPTY STANDS". Not sure exactly how many seen it but it pretty much summed our trip up exactly.

Oh well, hope she had fun today enforcing her shitey rules, won't stop us doing what we do anywhere else. Actually worse now there than at Celtic, and I thought that would be hard to top. Could have easily made another grand on admission alone from the lads on our bus; their loss and the pub landlord's gain!

I think you need to publicise this in the media lads. Keep up the good work BTW. A breath of fresh air.

  9. Terrific day out today. Made the arduous trip from my girlfriend's house two streets away, totally worth it.

Thought we got quite lucky with a few penalty shouts, Hateley looked to handball it in our box in the second half, but Higdon and Lasley were top for us, Hammell as well. Superb first goal, unbelievable mistake from Pernis for the second, good penalty for the third.

    Viva Motherwell.

A great away and thoroughly merited win. We played some good football and took our chances. The ref was poor though and although United had a strong shout for a penalty so did we when Gunning used two hands to clearly push Higdon in the back at a corner. United can have no complaints despite their fans constant moaning.

  10. Just watched the TV highlights and picked up 2 incidents. In the first half just before Chris Humphrey hit the bar, Considine could and should have been red carded. As the ball approaches the penalty box Considine clearly veers away from it to run across Humphrey's path and impede him. Its really only clear from the rear.

Second half, Tim Clancy is clearly impeded/brought down by the goalie's arm/hand.

Still its academic now but it could have been costly.

    Great goal by Bob.

  11. I've not been overly impressed so far but credit to young Mchugh he made a great impact yetserday to score an important goal fit to win any match. He's strong and has a low centre of gravity. He's earned another chance andf good luck to him.

  12. awful, awful game of fitba' and thought we looked very flat. Aberdeen are horrific and set their stall out to frustrate us and it nearly worked. Smashing goal from young Bob, hopefully he can kick on from here and hopefully this will give McCall the courage to use his bench more often as we can't possibly go on using the same bodies week-in, week-out.

Delighted with the outcome, but slightly down about the whole performance......but its always nice to see a Craig Brown team getting beat.......

Just about sums it up for me too.

Another disappointing display today against a poor but workmanlike Aberdeen side who almost deserved a point. First things first though - it was great to win the 3 points especially against Brown and Knox. Also a great solo goal by Bob McHugh to seal the victory. Hopefully that'll give him some confidence and earn him a starting slot alongside Michael Higdon.

For me though another poor performance with our recurrent failings, minus the horrific individual defensive errors, evident once again. Men of the Match probably Tim Clancy and Keith Lasley.

We were unfortunate that the woodwork stopped us from taking a 2 goal lead. However, defensively we were shaky again with Hammell and especially Craigan looking vulnerable. Midfield was a mixed bag with Lasley being the pick of the crop and Jennings and Law looking decidely below par. Jamie Murphy was again played out of position frequently popping up behind our holding midfield players. I really do feel for him. Possibly our most talented player but being asked to play in a role he's totally unsuited for. Michael Higdon had a poor game but again suffered from lack of support and service.

Our Plan A struggled against a cautious Aberdeen side who defended in depth when the mood took them. I'm flummoxed as to how we were going to break down a resolute in depth defence with only one striker on the pitch!!! Despite attacking for spells we struggled to put more than one man in the Dons' box. Players queuing up outside the box but only Michael Higdon actually venturing into it.

Time for a rethink on tactics and line up methinks. We shouldn't let Bob McHugfh's excellent individual goal mask a below par performance against a poor team.

  13. I've supported Michael Higdon so far and will continue to do so as I think he's being unfairly treated by both fans and management alike. Today he had a poor game but so did Steve Jennings, Jamie Murphy , Steve Hammell and Stephen Craigan. It happens move on.

  14. WE'VE been sussed and need to change things quickly.

The problem is, has anything different been worked on in training AND is there even a plan B.

Hope I'm wrong, but, concerned about the one trick pony tag!

Yes, I think we've been sussed - the SPL is a small league and there won't be much about our team and tactics the opposition don't know now. A plan B? I'll settle for a decent Plan A.

  15. I must have missed that bit ......

We need to vary our tactics, at the moment: Randolph throws it to Hammell who moves forward, stops, the ball is then passed to the centre backs who then pass to Hateley who then passes it to Humphrey by which time the opposition has moved up onto him. If they got the ball to him quicker he might have some space to start his run.

Ah someone else agrees with me. On Tuesday night Chris Humphrey received his first decent pass on the 31 minute mark. The first 6 passes to him were all very poor - the first 10 metres behind him; then 2 hospital passes, and also 3 when he was covered by 2/3 defenders.
