  1. According to today's Press and Journal, Aberdeen is losing patience with Mark McGhee's dithering. According to them he is holding off to wait on Celtic's call (if that ever comes). The Dons aren't prepared to wait on him forever.

It is the P & J after all so treat the report with caution.

  2. One thing I notice about that report is that's it all about the journos opinion.

Very true Jim and quite frankly Mr Broadfoot and his journalistic colleagues must accept a large part of the blame rather than meekly decrying Scots football. They are a significant cause of the rot. We pick up so called Scots newspapers, watch Scots TV or listen to pseudo Scots radio and what do we get? News about the English Premiership. This only serves to disenchant our own fans north of the border. Give our own game a break for goodness sake!

A very pertinent quote from Jim Duffy "Part of the problem is an unrealistic level of expectation. We see football from all parts of Europe on television daily and fans are expecting their team to win - and do it in style. They want the technical ability and flair they see from Spain's La Liga and the top end of the English Premiership. Thats just not possible. There isn't the money for Scottish clubs to attract top drawer players. It seems fashion is over-riding common sense."

Maybe just maybe if Mr Broadfoot and his ilk promoted Scots football more, more fans would go along and support their local side.

  3. Sales have been fantastic...

Thats great news indeed. The question is though...will we sell more season tickets in total or are fans just renewing earlier. Time will tell. I hope its the former. At worst though it will improve the club's cash flow.

  4. I don't know how many times I've had the same thought Brazilian but I still renew my season ticket and I daresay I'm too old and stupid to give up now!

I complain when I go to Fir Park but I really can't see me doing anything else on a Saturday afternoon.

  5. Technical question here.

How does any water get from the surrounding soil/medium into the actual drains? If there are holes/slots in the drains wouldn't the surrounding medium particles block the holes/slits?

  6. The reason it is flawed is that when you try to renew online it lets you select 1 adult family ticket at £150 ish and 1 child family ticket at £150 ish (for the price of a family ticket) but the additional child is priced at another £92 ish.

Fair enough. Glad you've got sorted.

  7. Overall great value albeit the online renewal thing is seemingly a bit flawed

How do you mean its "flawed"? If its the inability to renew family tickets online there may be a good reason for that. Perhaps Leeann or Flow could explain.

  8. Evening Times continues to stir.....

CELTIC today denied reports that approaches had been made to Mark McGhee's agent

I see - so they wouldn't approach MFC first for permission to speak to him?

  9. St johnstone must have same scouts we have every player we look at so do they......

Firstly, £1.5k per week is a decent wage for an SPL team outwith the current top 6. In other words, the Pars are continuing to pay some of their players decent SPL wages. Not sustainable in their position.

Its highly unlikely that the usual suspects (Killie, St Mirren, Hamilton, Falkirk, St Johnstone, Dundee etc) won't know about this level of player. If one club knows about an available player you can rest assured the rest will as well. I would think it'll be unlikely that we'll sign anyone in the summer that the others aren't aware of. There are exceptions of course.

Players like Scott MacDonald, Richie Foran, although unknown to you or I before coming to us were well known to the other clubs. These days agents will send out blanket mailshots to virtually every similar club in Britain, or perhaps further afield.

Teams as diverse as Crewe, Grimsby, Wrexham and Dundee will know far more about our own under 19s than Well fans will.

  10. St Johnstone was looking at Gallacher but the Pars are looking for a significant fee for him and he's on substantial wages. Given that they've discontinued their interest.

If Dunfermline want to trim their outgoings they're going the wrong way about it.

  11. The Courier - Dundee / Dundee United

The Scotsman - Hearts / Hibs

    The P & J - Aberdeen

The above newspapers are the last places that I look for unbiased reports concerning these teams. Whilst they do have inside contacts no doubt, they have a habit of telling their readers just what they want to hear.

Take any of their reports with a pinch of salt.

  12. Is the Morais at ICT the one that was at Hibs? Got sent off at Fir Park for a rash challenge.

    Yes and no.

Yes, he was at Hibs but no - he was sent off for a VICIOUS tackle on Jim Paterson (no rashness about it despite what Murdo McLeod said).

  13. I had been all set to use the end of season POTY event to generate interest for the site to continue sponsoring players and had hoped to get the funds to sponsor two again, but with last years huge increase in costs and the...............mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm :P

Still go for it Brazilian. I'm sure the site's supporters will do their best as they always have done.

  14. However to temper that, another post elsewhere suggests that MM and WM met in a bar in Aberdeen last night.

I've been led to believe that if the two of them met in an Aberdeen bar it would have been pure coincidence, Jim. If MMcG was ever to return to Pittodrie then a few fences would have to be mended.

  15. For those criticising Paul Quinn, I say only this. At least he seemed bothered about the result. A bit of professional pride at stake, something others could learn. Was it an avoidable booking? Yes. Did he channel his aggression in the best way? Probably not.

Totally agree Melvyn. Paul Quinn was far from being our worst player today and he, at least, showed some will to win. Looking back over the season its our left flank thats cost us most goals, time after time after time. If opposition managers can see it why can't we?

The defence must be rejigged for next season as we've lost far too many cheap goals. That should be our number one aim. We also need a left sided midfielder who can defend.

  16. i don't see why it's always hughes' fault. there should be four men in midfield. he does what he does very well, he'd be a much better player with better players beside him ala darren fletcher.

Its not all his fault. Our defence made sure of that today. However he was possibly the most talented player on display today, on paper. In theory a real matchwinner capable of setting the game alight. The trouble is he rarely if ever does, and is all too often overshadowed by those with lesser skills

  17. Anyone else think that we could really do with a flair player who drives AT goal and shoots on occaision? (like Taoul who won the match doing this?)l This arguably was our undoing today, with Hughes and O'Brien in particular flattering to deceive, passing sideways, backtracking? It was painful at times, particularly in the second half where we were looking to pass the ball in at times rather than just being direct and having a dig.

Spot on. O'Brien and Hughes looked very impressive but didn't actually do anything. The latter will not be missed next year. At times our build up was so laboured and slow that by the time we approached Killie's box 10/11 of their players were organised and waiting for us. Where was O'Brien's and Hughes' guile?
