There's a lot of pressure on Nick Daws and Stuart Kettlewell right now. The club has been caught with its pants down over Biereth. We have a fortnight to bring in about 5 bodies who are not just half decent but can hit the ground running. Its a tall order. So far the quality of names being linked with us aren't inspiring (possibly Monty excepted), as Melvin has said. SK mentioned in his presser that all year long loans have recall clauses. That being the case hopefully they're not one sided i.e. Oli Shaw.

A choice of 2 strikers for Saturday.....Bair and Obika.

Before the break, the squad was paper thin. SK said that we'd likely bring in another 2 players to address that numbers/quality deficiency; more if players left. Discounting McGinley and Maguire returning, we've now lost 4 players (Souare, Spencer, Wilkinson and now Biereth). We've brought in one, Montgomery. Whilst we can't always take such comments as being gospel truth, for a number of reasons, that would mean we're now looking at bringing in 5 more bodies in the next fortnight or so. I, like many, expected us to strengthen during this window, but as things stand at the moment we're looking to be weaker, taking into account Slattery's injury - thats quite a prospect. I hope that we don't just bring in bodies for the sake of it as per Melvin's concerns above. I don't get the criticism of Arsenal by some (they do have previous as we should have known). Such criticism should be directed at our own club for being somewhat naive. Season long loans are a risk as we've just found out with Biereth and Spencer. A lot depends on the agreement wording of course. These big English clubs are not charities, they're ruthless businesses just doing what they do. For Arsenal read Aston Villa, Liverpool, Newcastle etc etc

I largely agree with you Greg. However, I'd add a central defender, and another midfielder to your shopping list. We badly need pace in the central midfield and up front, a pacy wide man and a finisher. Like you I think Biereth is a decent player but think he's overrated. Maybe our system didn't suit him or bring out the best in him?

According to the Edinburgh Evening News, we're tussling with St Johnstone over Conor Smith. Loan or permanent deal.

Quite pleased at the Curtis Main news. IF it was down to money, Dundee were always likely to blow us out of the water. As for Mika Biereth we'll await developments, but its always risky putting so much emphasis on a dodgy loan deal. It does bring into spotlight though our striker signings in the summer.

No. I've never managed it yet in over 40 years of washing cars. There's always a first time though.

I don't quite get all the opinions on Callum Slattery. I do get though that he's underperforming and his form fluctuates. Of late, he's been unimpressive after a good start to the current capaign. What I don't get is these accustions of falling over (folk really mean diving) very easily. He's a physical player and takes more than his fair share of punishment. Thats not to say though that he's never "fallen over". To take one example, in the St H Johnstone game about a month ago, he clashed with Daniel Phillips I think (?), with the latter craftily hacking him in the back of the ankle. He fell down, not surprisingly, but one or two around me accused him of deceit and diving. He "wins" (an expression I hate) a lot of fouls simply because he does get fouled a lot. I get though that he's not in the John O'Hare category.

I don't know about that but he's partial to a spot of gardening especially weeding.

Theres a bit of sense in most of your posts MJC, much more than many give you credit for, but you're wide of the mark with this statememt. Our club is not in financial trouble (the annual accounts tell us that) and we're not basket cases like the 2 Dundee clubs. We have cash in the bank with some back up available, if and when needed, through the Society. Irrespective of what we think of the video, this campaign is to raise fresh funds to help us compete with the likes of Killie, Ross County, St Johnstone and St Mirren, which we're currently struggling to do. We're in no danger of going into administration any time soon.

I suspect they want to offload him (or he wants to move on) for reasons other than wages. We couldn't afford his current wages before and we can't afford them now.

Some rumours at last. Who knows, not me, there may be an atom of truth in them. Penney would a strange one. He didn't like being at Motherwell (maybe just working under SH). He started well but his form fell off a cliff and with the best will in the world he couldn't defend. From what I can gather he's hardly played since leaving us. He'd be an odd signing.

Arran Bone has joined Gala Fairydean Rovers on loan until the end of the season.
