Hopefully this stays in the ‘Former players thread’ and not the ‘ins and outs’ but I see the BBC Scotland gossip page is saying that Moult has unfinished business with us; mibbee he stills owes money for the physio bill or something. Louis don’t spoil our memories of how good you were by coming back a dud again.

In the same gossip it says this:

Ross County manager Malky Mackay aims to keep Motherwell's former Staggies midfielder Blair Spittal at Fir Park on Saturday.

I presume he is going to let the air out of his tyres or something! :D

At the moment he's the joint premiership record holder with Craig Dargo for scoring in 8 consecutive games, so he needs another goal on Saturday against Ross County to stand alone.

Ah yes good point, I really should know better than use certain Scottish media outlets as a reference point 🤨

I think it is to do with the League being rebranded from the Premier League to the Premiership, hair splitting nonsense in other words. They are probably ignoring any records set in the old First division days too.

Is it just me that thinks we should be playing the youth players were basically safe and theres no difference in finishing 7-10th to us get minutes into Lennon and see where he is Luca Ross seemed close under Hammell so why not give him a go weve got nothing to lose and a lot of the current players need to bet let go off

You're trying to make MJC's aneurysm burst, aren't you?

For the past couple of years my season ticket has been for Over 60s .. which is a great reduction.

However I see that the Over 60s is now Over 65 s ..

As I am 62 , I now have to revert to paying full adult ticket .. how will that attract people to renew their ticket … “Oh , by the way  , we have just decided you have to pay more than double you have paid over the past number of seasons since you turned 60 “..

Is it me , or where is the sense in this !!!

My understanding is that the change to 65 happened last year but anyone who had already turned 60 continues to get the discounted rate.

Coatsy just beat me to it.

Be interesting to see how the fixtures pan out.

Not sure how the computer system works, whether its just a random selection based on certain criteria fed into the system, or whether the league deliberately try to keep the interest going right to the end of the season?

Anyone at home in the first game will do.

I agree avoiding United right now would be preferable as they seem to have hit a rich veign of form. That said, I think we would have learned from last time out and with a weeks rest before the game, our energy levels should be back up to where they need to be.

Lets try get that final win in the bag at the first attempt.

The only criteria involve the arse cheeks, make sure they get 19 home games each, even if it affects the teams still with something to play for, then make sure that Celtic can't win the league at Ibrox. They also have to worry about the first game after the title is settled being at Ibrox to avoid the embarrassment of Rangers not applauding the Champions onto the park. Once that is sorted they just pull the other games out a hat.

Great result today and KVV adds to his tally. Other results went pretty much as expected today with the exception of Killie  who I thought would only pick up a draw. Credit to Ketts and the players.

Good to see that Motherwell's B team continued the tradition of blowing it when everything suggests a home win. In form, check, playing against a struggling team, check, full house, check.

Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.

I'd still prefer they would have won though.

  7. Lies, damn lies and statistics. Scott Brown used to have passing accuracies in the 90%s, but all of them were back to his centre halves. Spittal at least doesn't hide like some of his team mates, and, more importantly, didn't when things were bad mid-season. Maybe if some of the others had put in the same effort he did we wouldn't have been in the position we were. He isn't the best player I've ever seen, but he is far from the worst.

Perhaps, but you can only play the team in front of you. We'd had a pretty shocking record at Celtic Park until the mid-70s, if my memory is correct, and so going there to see us win was brilliant.

I wasn't thinking of the 80/90s. Those five-goal thriller games were in the mid-70s. I think our wins at CP  began under the managership of Ian St John and continued for a few seasons. I haven't checked the records in 'Well Again but I think that's correct.

Sounds about right to me, again without checking.

Don't forget Andy Lynch day, what a laugh that was. :D

  9. I remember a cup win in about 1975, I'd have to go searching for an exact date. We were 0 - 2 down at half time and won 3 - 2, Pettigrew scored twice, can't remember who scored the other, Vic Davidson possibly. That was a great day, greater team.

Skippy Sunday could have been better if he had squared the ball to Gerry Britton, I would have loved to have seen the look on his face if he had a tap in against his beloved Celtic. (I suspect it would have hit the corner flag though)

  10. I always target 38 points before I can relax and think about how high we can finish and not how low, and in the last 15 or so years, only twice has the team finishing 11th exceeded that total, I suspect this season won't buck that trend, so 38 points should be plenty. 11 games to go, 11 points required, I think ( and hope ) that we will manage that.

sky sports said if spittal hadnt scored, it wouldv been pulled back for a pen and a sending off,   but feck that   we dont do 10 men

I've no doubt that would have happened, and as I said, I was happy not to play against 10 men, but if the referee waits for a break in play to make a booking, eg, Van Veen's stupid hand ball, why is a goal different from a throw in?

  12. What a pleasant way to start a Sunday afternoon, thoroughly deserved three points.

The BBC report, and a couple on here, have talked about Shankland hitting the post, it was actually a great save from Kelly and it, arguably, sent us on our way. Everyone contributed to that win and pretty much anyone could have been the man of the match.

Having an organiser in Butcher allows us to look much more comfortable with and without the ball and at no point today was I tempted to start chewing my nails. If anything, I'm disappointed we didn't win by more.

One final thought, I was surprised that their no. 3 wasn't even spoken to after the second goal, he had Dean in a bear hug then wrestled him to the ground in the 6 yard box before Spittal put the ball in the net. Given our record against ten men I'm happy nothing happened, and I'm also happy to admit that I don't know that specific rule, but I thought some sort of action would have been in order.

Huge result though, 'mon the 'Well.

  13. Two games in a row we have been given a really hard decision to make. I went with Goss because he is now influencing games with a littlle bit of skill but is also working hard off the ball.

Honourable mentions to Kelly, Butcher, Cornelius, Spittal & Obika. I could make a case for most of the team in all honesty.

  14. Confident as ever I see. Your invincible favourites (Hearts) won at Fir Park earlier this year in a game even their fud of a manager said they were lucky to win, and beat us courtesy of a late penalty at Tynecastle. Both games against a Motherwell team that was really struggling.

You may be right that we will lose, but I hope to F@#k that the players don't share your opinion of the jambos. If we get the effort and commitment we saw last night, we can hopefully get up their noses and take something from this one.

  15. For what it is worth:

Kelly: Nothing much to do, caught a 20 yarder which was straight at him and was fouled (possibly) at a cross which he dropped.

Johnston: Composed under pressure, made some good forward runs and linked well with the the forward players. Caught out of position a couple of times, but all in all a good solid performance.

Blaney: My MOM, won a lot in the air, comfortable with the ball at his feet and seems like a good communicator. Early days and against lower league opponents, but an impressive start.

Lamie: A man totally devoid of confidence.

McGinn: Got forward very when the opportunity arose and was generally solid playing on the wrong side. Was tending to drift inside towards his natural position as the game wore on though.

Slattery: Made himself available to the defence, but didn't do much when he got the ball, should do better.

Goss: One of his poorer performances.

Spittal: Worked hard and at least tries to play head up football. Unfortunately his main failings are pace and stamina but at least he doesn't hide.

Mandron: Took a short time to adjust to the pace of the game and the pitch. Did well enough though, some nice touches and linked up well. Plus two goals, the first one was virtually unmissable but he was in the right position. Seems a good addition so far.

Crankshaw: Looked ok on the right, but fell out of the game when he switched wings. Judgement reserved.

McKinstry: Looking better every week. Very unselfish at the opener and should have got on the score sheet in the second half.

    Subs:

KVV: Nice back heel in the build up to the second goal, stupid booking. He is what he is.

Cornelius: Did what he does, works hard and tries to get forward. Deserving of more game time IMHO.

Shields: Not on long enough to contribute.

All in all, better than I expected but we could have made it more comfortable if we had taken at least one of the chances earlier in the second half. Arbroath never really threatened but a clean sheet will hopefully give us some confidence.

    Goss
