  1. We re-signed Stevie Hammell for 110k did we not?

Think that's only because we sold JP to Plymouth for £250k.

And it made sense to sell on someone nearing the end of their contract, and sign a more than adequate, younger replacement and pocket still £140k profit.

  2. BBC and Sporting Life both say five (yes only five) guys.

Everywhere it seems have claimed it to be 5.

But, Crocker claimed that it was 6 booked for Hibs, just prior to Riordan getting booked in the last minute for kicking the ball away.

So, if he was originally right then it would indeed be 7 carded.

Either way, I am sure the SFA/SPL issue fines for clubs that receive 5+ bookings in a match. So, either way this would ensure harm to their Fair Play bid.

  3. From the teams perspective, i dont see many positives.

We will be fucked come Christmas and all the excuses will somewhat understandably relate back to the lack of a break in the summer!

    I don't understand this tbh.

I mean we would have been delighted if we had grabbed the 4th spot that we were aiming for all season. Which ultimately would have got us in the Europa league on footballing merit.

We wouldn't be moaning, and complaining of ruining our 09/10 SPL season.

Well the round we enter the 2nd leg is only a WEEK earlier than the 1st leg we would have entered had we finished 4th.

Don't really see THAT much difference.

Surely United will be in exactly the same boat if they end up in 4th.

It's not like other seasons when the Intertoto was complete before the UEFA Cup started.

Due to this revamp, there is a game every week. So, teams aren't losing out so much at the start. It's over the long run for the teams that end up in the QF's, SF's due to the sheer amount of games they now need to play. Not necessarily when they start.

  4. 1 - Opposing goalie being roundly applauded for his bye kick taking technique

Well not the best of starts to his 'Well career, if we were to criticise Fraser, as currently it seems he could and probably will be our number 1 next season. In saying that, not like us 'Well fans to hold back from criticising our own players

  5. I just heard the baby crew on the radio...."Follow follow we will follow rangers will we fuck blow them up and join the MFC"

You could establish exactly who they were from the sound of their voice transmitted through a radio?

  6. Yass!

Interesting to note a crowd of 2818 tonight. Obviously due to fuck all to play for and ICT understandably poor away support. But, must be one of the lowest at FP in a long time.

  7. Keeping an eye on the bookings in the other game as well.

Another 45mins from us without picking up a booking.

And with Gary Mason being booked for the Midden then we have another card safety barrier (albeit the ultimate decision not all judged on bookings but certainly a major factor).

Another one for Shuggy Murray for Midden.

So that will be 2-0 on bookings between us and Midden tonight.

  8. That was Hearts fans mate. There no-where near us in the Fairplay league though.

Well according to the papers, Hibs are one of our nearest challengers.

Hearts on the other hand, are NO challengers whatsoever as they will clinch the Europa place through league position anyway.

But, it may not have been the Hibs fans that encroached onto the pitch and therefore won't be penalised for that offence. But, surely Riordan's antic's directed towards the Hearts fans. The mere provocation of his celebration, was the fact of the Hearts fans entering the pitch. So, surely Riordan's "celebration" could perhaps affect Hibs points scoring in the table.

Either way still maintain St Midden are our only real competitors. And with Mason being booked in the 1st half. It's another card to add to our cushion.

  9. Keeping an eye on the bookings in the other game as well.

  10. Almost always comes up whenever a team lose their manager.

But, we always worry with McGhee's allegiance to Aberdeen that if Calderwood were to leave, would he return?

Well with his history with Reading, any chance that a return to the Madejski could be on the cards, with Coppell's resignation?

  11. Also how many other teams in the SPL, no infact the world can say they have a player in their side who put Wayne Rooney in his back pocket and never let him oot for 90 minutes

    True, true.

We don't just have the one remember... we have two!

Not to forget Craggs silencing Rooney & Co at Windsor Park one memorable Wednesday night..

  12. Getting ahead of myself at the moment.

But, if we do happen to clinch this 6th European place.

The potential list of already qualified teams for the 1st Qualifying Round are:

Derry City - Rep of Ireland

Sligo Rovers - Rep of Ireland

    Helsingborg - Sweden

    NSI Runavik - Faroe Islands

    Torshavn - Faroe Islands

    Ararat Yerevan - Armenia

    Gandzasar Kapan - Armenia

    Irtysh - Kazakhstan

    Kaisar - Kazakhstan

    Keflavik - Iceland

    Fram - Iceland

    Anorthosis Famagusta - Cyprus

    Linfield - Northern Ireland

    Crusaders - Northern Ireland

    FC Lahti - Finland

    Dinamo Minsk - Belarus

    MTZ Ripo - Belarus

    Juvenus - San Marino

    Dinaburg - Latvia

    Llanelli - Wales

    T.N.S - Wales

    FK Vetra - Lithuania

    Flora - Estonia

    Trans - Estonia

  13. You can imagine if it's tight and the good old SPL decide it's as it stands at the end of the season (and between us and Saint Mirren), guess who'll be at the wind up on Saturday. Another Man City on the cards?!?!

Aye, but they are fighting for their life on Sat and the remaining 3 games afterwards. They can't afford to be stepping out of challenges and 50/50s. Pressure of relegation makes players do silly things.

We on the other hand can just do a Man City and help up losing 8-1 by not being committed. Not that I think we should do it, least that is an option to us that isn't available to St Midden.

  14. Respect towards referees and opponents, positive play, fouls, crowd behavior and behaviour of club officials are all taken into account.

Well due to Scotland and their dismal showing in this years competitions, at least it's been unable to affect our placing.

So, we compare this to fellow similar nations like Poland, Romania, Serbia & Co, they as well have had no other representatives late on in both European Competitions. So, all are unable to climb above us into the top 3.

Whereas all the bigger nations have done themselves no favours..

England - Fletcher's red card, Chelsea's negative play going against the "positive play" that UEFA set out. The indiscipline from Drogba + Ballack.

Spain - Abidal sent off, as was Godin for Villarreal at the Emirates in Quater Finals.

Italy - Juventus were down to 10men in there game against Chelsea in Turin.

So, the major nations harming their chances and the lesser footballing nations not getting teams to the latter stages, apart from perhaps the Ukraine.

Combined with the fact the National team picked up zero bookings in the Amsterdam Arena.

    Looking good anyway..

  15. Would you want this Motherwell team going into the last day against Kilmarnock needing something...?

Of course not, mainly due to our inability to "turn up" for these type of crucial matches (bar Sheep at home last season amongst a select few). The Malpas debacle against St Midden was bad enough to cope with and that was with a game to spare, with our fate in our own hands, not quite sure if I could cope with a one-game - winner-takes-all scenario in our last game.

But, on the other hand, to have the opportunity to send Killie down. Could be a thought too good to resist.. :D

  16. A lot of talk of our goal difference being too good for us to go down. A couple of 3-0 defeats in the next couple of games change anyone's minds...?

Not that there any realistic chance of us going down, only mathematically are we still unsafe.

But, talking of goal difference being disgarded. You reckon Cardiff fans thought they're goal difference was too good to lose them a Playoff place.

A 6-0 defeat to Preston turned that round. A complete 12 goal swing between the two sides. Not to mention boost the others Goals Scored column. And as a result we all know that Cardiff lost out, not on points, not on goal difference but on the goals scored. Which is mainly due to that 6-0 hammering.

Stranger things have happened in football..

  17. 1-0 either way.

Similar to the cup game, whoever can take the golden chance that comes their way will win it.

Not many goals in the game I reckon.

Hopefully we seek revenge for our no-show in the Top 6 decider.

  18. As I posted earlier I checked the news reports on Man City last year and they found out the week after uefa finished counting at the end of april. So it really is a case of waiting till friday to see if Scotland made the top 3.

    Fingers crossed

    Are you sure?

As remember, last season, Richard Dunne was sent off early in Man City's last fixture of the season. And they weren't sure whether that affected their Fair Play standing, and almost allowed the then nearly relegated Fulham to take the place. That is why Man City sat back and refused to tackle for the rest of the game and ultimately lost 8-1.

  19. The standings are drawn up from all European competition matches from the period between 1 May 2008 to 30 April 2009.

Anyone know when the final results shall be published, with any potential games that can be included must be completed as of today. So, therefore with the table being unable to change, when shall they be publishing it?

  20. Surely Scotland would have to drop out.

We are currently occupying the last vacancy as of January. Well due to no Scottish team participating in European competition after Xmas, and the National side only comepeting against the Dutch. Then surely we would have no scope as a Nation to pick up any more points.

Same can be said for Norway, but the Danes would have Aalborg and Copenhagen (both knocked out by Man City) to continue their co-efficient after Xmas.

So surely bigger Nations like Italy, Spain, England, France, Germany etc due to playing more games would be able to achieve a better overall score and knock us off 3rd place.

Hope I am wrong and we will have a trip to the Faroes, Finland, Belarus, Montenegro etc in early July.

  21. Re: Dobbie

Barrowman at ICT is a perfect example of someone that can score barrel loads of goals in the lower leagues and then be totally found out at SPL level.

Even Deuchar (albeit slightly better rate than Barrowman), he broke pretty much every record on his way through with Gretna, and can't score in a brothel in the SPL.

Even Martin Grechan, whom McGhee rated as not good enough and allowed him to move to Stirling permanently, has a very good record in the 2nd Division, and is clearly not SPL standard.

For every Swanson, Gomis, Cowie, Rankin there are plenty who make the step up only to find themselves totally out their depth.

And both Barrowman (Killie) and Dobbie (Hibs) were both let go from SPL clubs, as both deemed not good enough only to make it in the lower leagues. There careers are following a similar pattern. Fair enough Dobbie may be good enough, and be a gem of a signing. But, quite a risky one at that. And we can't afford to pin our faith on a guy that's only proven at lower league level.

And with Queens move into Professional status, they could be in a better position financially to be able to hold out for a fee, that in all likelihood we couldn't afford (especially a risky capture at that). If we are spending money, we need to make sure it's gonna work out for both parties e.g Porter (wages, rather than transfer fee in this case).
