  1. Off topic, but how is that goalie getting on that left us for Leeds a wee while back? Think his name was Alan Martin or something?

They sent him out on loan for the season, to some non-league team.

    Barrow I am sure.

Appeared in the FA Cup earlier in the season on Setanta.

  2. I thought they played 'well against Hibs to be fair.

I think they flattered to deceive in that game to be fair. Watched it, and despite St Mirren knocking the ball around very nicely, it impressed me that very rarely did they go long searching for Mehmet (and latterly Hamilton) nor did they look for the ball over the top for Dargo to run onto, they continually played the ball on the deck and through Murray/Dorman in midfield. The fullbacks Camara and Ross joined in whenever they could. And everything looked great, BUT the key fact is, that all happened in the first 2/3 of the pitch, soon as they were remotely near Hibs' goal the entire thing went to pot and they were simply inept (probably hence why they are 11th in the table). Despite all the possession they had against a piss-poor, unmotivated Hibs side they created next to nothing apart from their goal (which was a class apart) and a Dargo mis-timed header, and perhaps one or two half chance just before their goal. And that is shocking when you take into account how much possession they had.

  3. No, with well over 200 miles to cover and a 5-6hr journey ensures my trips to Fir Park are sadly not as frequent as they used to be.

Doesn't stop me attending week in, week out..

Sacrifices have to be made, I would do anything to ensure I see the 'Well.

  4. They really shouldn't though. We have played Iceland three times in the last few years and I am still awaiting for Gudjohnsen to show up...

Judging by his performances against Scotland, when he turns out for Iceland the amount of times I have saw him drop back into the defensive mid role (I know he is slightly familiar with playing further back for Barca, just not that far back), just to pick up a little bit of possession. This when he is meant to be a CF for Iceland. Not his fault, he has to play and move into more unorthodox positions just to get into the game at all.

Not that I am saying he makes a team, but an Iceland without Gudjohnsen has basically no threat whatsoever and should be treated almost as a walkover at Hampden and a comfortable win away. But, with Gudjohnsen in the team they have a slight threat about them.

I mean plenty of shite players have looked good when surrounded by class. So, even with Eidur there his mere presence may get that little bit more out of his teammates e.g means we may put an extra man on him - marking him out the game - allowing extra space for someone else to exploit.

Despite not being impressed in his previous matches against Scotland, you would admit to rather playing Iceland without him than with him..

  5. I don't know what's the most significant aspect of that report. Nielson going on loan again or from a Scotland perspective, that Iceland lost to the Faroes.

Wouldn't read too much into that, the key Icelandic players did not feature, with the main exception being Eidur Gudjohnsen.

They will be an entirely different proposition with him in the starting XI.

  6. Hopefully McGhee can throw his weight around like he did last year after deciding to stay on, he did it on the stipulation that Porter, Hughes and Reynolds would not be sold in the Summer. All 3 of which stayed, and obviously included knocking back a good bid from Rangers. So, again hopefully this time around MMG can go to JB and demand that Maros gets what he wants (within reason of course).

As far as I am aware, he does seem to be slipping under the radar. I mean not many journalists, commentators, analysts etc seem to be talking him up much. Certainly not like Clarky, O'Brien and perhaps even Hughes. I know we all rate him hugely and all pretty much agree he is immense, but from the outside looking in not many seem to be taken notice.

Also, any chance that he could be re-called to the Slovakia team for the friendly vs England next week?

Would be great for Maros to stick Rooney & Co up in the air.

  7. AFAIK aren't FC Midjtylland in serious financial trouble, and was one of the reasons they wanted Maros away to get rid of at least his wages for half a season (which in turn has lasted a full season). I thought they were crippled financially.

And was it not only 100k they wanted back in the Summer, and we couldn't afford it and as a result of wanting him off the wage bill, they were happy punting him to us on loan instead. So, if they were looking for 100k back then, he will have a year less left on his contract, and therefore they are in a lesser position to negotiate a better deal. So, don't reckon they would be too hard to deal with.

Cost I don't think is going to be that much of a problem, our problem lies if someone else comes in and pinches him from us.

  8. Dunno if we have similar rules to England.

When it hits March then the booking limit is increased to 10 I think from 5.

As during the Sunderland - Liverpool match, Whitehead was booked (5th of the season) and the commentator claimed he was lucky it was the 3rd of March by then and the limits had increased.

So, I suppose if this rules applies in Scotland as well, we are fortunate that Klimpl missed the first half of the season and was unable to accumulate any more bookings.

Regardless, I am sure Flow mentioned elsewhere, you get points for the type of booking, and as Maros' challenges haven't been too bad, surely hasn't accumulated that many points.

    Hopefully.

  9. Yeah, think we are currently 2nd to Celtic.

But, as they will represent the CL space, then surely we would be next in line... assuming McLean keeps PQ out the team.. :P

As last year it was England that got the Fair Play space and it was Man City that benefited, as there was some confusion as Richard Dunne was sent off on the Final day that almost allowed Fulham who avoided relegation on the final day to almost claim a UEFA slot.

So, it is not down to league position.

But, if we finished in the top 5 then we would qualify for Europe regardless (assuming an Old Firm/Aberdeen final) so therefore it would drop down to the 3rd "fairest" team in the SPL. Which means a total of 6 European SPL teams for next season.

  10. 2/ The goalie that made a complete arse of said pass could be our number 1 next season?!!

    Nah, worse..

That was Ryan Esson, we are getting Michael Fraser... the number 2 to the said guy who made a complete arse of it.

To be fair, I reckon part of the reason why Fraser is not playing is due to the fact he has signed the deal with ourselves (as well as being dropped for shipping 5 at Ibrox at the start of the season, and has failed to get his place back from Esson as a result).

  11. How long before the chant is "We Are Unbeatable" comes out from us, a la Arsenal when on their 49 match unbeaten run a few years ago.

To be fair, that was a momentous achievement from Arsenal, we are a 5th of the way there already! :D

    Mon the Well!

  12. Thing is, IF we do make it (and it's a huge IF and not looking/wanting to tempt fate). But, if we somehow manage to claw our way back the points deficit we had over the other 4 since Dec, and we do end up clinching Europe. Which one will be better, last season with the skills and great play all season and hoping we hang on all season and get it with a few games to spare. Or this season, fighting and grinding away results for the 2nd half of the season and climbing up the table from 10th upwards to go on and clinch it.

Both will be extremely sweet, and getting ahead of ourselves, what an achievement it would be if we manage back-to-back European seasons.

We must now hope for a Rangers/Aberdeen/Celtic Scottish Cup Final.

All 4 games are extremely winnable, 9 points though would be an amazing return for us.

  13. 3 points off Utd in 5th..

4 points off Sheep in 4th..

2 points clear of Hibs in 7th..

    Not bad at all.

Especially as it looks ever increasingly likely that 5th place WILL be enough for Europe.

    Onwards and certainly upwards.

    Great result.

  14. - Recession.

    - Population of Germany 80 million + (according to Wiki) compared to the Population of Scotland 5 million

    - Schalke reserves (a fantastic attendance) but they represent one of the largest clubs in Germany.

    - Cooper fiasco, many fans vowed not to return.

    - Plenty of fans are disgusted by the songs and actions of a certain set of fans and refuse to go.

  15. Definitely can't be regarded as a keeper warm up, as well Gunnar just stood there letting the ball whistle past him into the net or when up against DLS the 14th row of the Cooper.

Suppose at least Artur seems to be making more of an effort and actually contributing to the warm up.

  16. Same with Hammell, to some on here he's not good enough although he's our most dangerous player when it comes to setting up goals, and that's a fact that can be found on the SPL website!

If anyone wants to look at shite deliveries, I am sure we all saw Gary Brady's corners, fuck me as a Midden fan I would be raging, dinked balls in with no pace and no real accuracy, making it almost impossible for the attackers to do anything with. Absolute waste of a good set piece opportunity. Did it what 5-8 times in the entire game. Must be infuriating to witness him doing it all the time.

In saying that when Dorman was taking the free kicks, on two or three occasions put in sublime crosses into the perfect area with a helluva lot of pace.

That is what to strive towards, whereas it does show that well Hammell's may not be the best (as it used to be) but would much rather his delivery than Gary fuckin' Brady..

  17. Reynolds was very good during the game, but why oh fuckin' why is he unable to punt someone up in the air? Fuckin' perfect chance to take a booking and give away a free kick, with Dargo out at the by-line, but preceded to let him run at him and let him pick a pass.

Look at Craigan 2mins beforehand, pulled Dargo back and was rightly booked, but stopped the attack. Fast-forward, opposite side, Reynolds neglects to do the cynical thing and well we are a goal down and out the cup.
