  1. This has to be one of my pet hates at the moment.

Let's take today as an example. We're 2-1 down against Celtic with 80 minutes on the clock. The game is raging from end to end, with chances for both teams.

I'm trying to watch the game and already there is a steady stream of people asking me to move so they can get by and leave. There are people heading for the exits from other rows and sections as well.

Now, I can fully understand that some people buy into the whole "beat the traffic" myth, which basically shaves a negligible amount of time off your journey home, but when we're 2-1 down against Celtic with ten minutes still to go? Really?

I've found myself leaving early once this season, which was the game against St Johnstone when we lost 3-0. It was a lost cause and the players deserved nothing from the game, or from the fans.

When McCall came over to the east stand with a few of the players after todays game it would have been nice had he been clapping to less empty seats. The players put in a decent shift today and deserved some recognition in my opinion.

Anyway, it's a fucking real annoyance at times :wallbash:

  2. Call me a sadist, but I've been browsing the various Celtic forums this morning whilst drinking my tea, basically reading their comments and getting myself more & more fired up for the game (even if they seem less arrogant & arsey about the result as they usually would).

Anyway, one thing I noticed that made me smile was the amount of "hardcore" fans who post on these forums frequently that spend the day of the game asking how they can watch the match from their fucking computer chair.

The amount of request for internet links almost outnumbers the posts discussing the actual game.

    <_>

Also whilst drinking my tea, I ended up watching this little classic. A repeat of this would go down just fine!

  3. there's no way randolph, hateley, hutchinson, murphy and probably law will be signing new deals here. craigan is near the end of his career as well. that's 6 out of your 11 starters.

If they decide not to sign, I'm guessing that McCall will be among the first to know so he'll deal with it appropriately.

I would be surprised if we lost every single one of the guys you listed there within the next season or two though.

  4. we're probably going to be losing randolph, hateley, craigan, hutchy, murphy and law either this summer or the next. lasley is 33 next year and jenno is unpredictable. better to get the rebuilding in early.

Bollocks to that. We simply don't know who will still be with us when the new season kicks off. I remember all the talk of how many players we'd lose after the cup final, and it amounted to Sutton.

Besides, you have no idea who we'll be bringing in over the next year or two.

If Hughes is willing to sign until January or the end of the season for reasonable money, then fair enough. I'm still of the opinion though that we could be doing with using whatever money we have to strengthen other areas of the team.

  5. Am I the only one who's going into this game tomorrow not even looking at where either Celtic or Rangers are in the league?

My eye is on St Johnstone & Hearts at present, and us having a seven point lead over our closest non-Old Firm rival is what really counts.

I'm assuming that Celtic & Rangers will finish 1st & 2nd rgeardless, and that we really should be looking at cementing a European place over the next few months.

Even a loss tomorrow will not be catastrophic. We'll still have a minimum four point lead over St Johnstone, and they have to visit Ibrox next weekend, whilst Hearts visit Tannadice, so our closest non-old firm rivals will be dropping points over the next few weeks as well.

  6. The club in question is Leeds United but I still aint giving my source. :P

No offence Jim, but I'm completely disregarding your "insider knowledge" until something concrete comes of it.

As far as I'm concerned, Randolph is a Motherwell player and we're looking to cement a European spot this season. That's all I'm thinking about.

Oh, and the small matter of us beating Celtic and getting Lennon his jotters tomorrow.

  7. I'm not saying people should boo players when at games (although I would maybe make an exception for Bob Malcolm when he was here) but I agree that "passengers" is the right phrase here.

Just to be clear here, you're not calling Higdon a passenger, are you?

  8. Perhaps we just need to accept the fact that the average number of punters we get is the support these days? I mean, the number of fans who stay away because the tickets are £20 rather than £15 has to be pretty negligible surely?

I don't think the home fans will number any more than they usually do.

  9. Awk chill out. As you can see from my previous tongue in cheek post, I'm catholic and I hardly find it offensive!

Just because you don't find it offensive doesn't mean others won't. There's no place for it on a Motherwell forum. Leave that shite to the bigot brothers.

Back on topic, a point from this game would be considered a success for us, wouldn't it? I guess it's a sign of how far they've dropped when it's also being considered a good result by their fans as well!

  10. The main problem Sportscene has is i think it is contractually limited to a maximum of 5 minutes per game. OK some games don't need anywhere near that (the 2 saints game highlights were very brief last night) but some games could do with a bit more coverage. By the time they show 5 goals and two efforts off the bar they've got very little time for anything else and the sending off was seen as more controversial than a booking for a dive.

I don't think that's the main problem at all. It's more to do with the figures they have announcing and presenting. Surely they can find better talent than that?

The commentators are cringeowrthy to say the least as well.

  11. I gave up watching Sportscene ages ago due to the poor set-up. I now watch our highlights on the BBC website, and catch the rest of the games on ESPN's 15 minute show, which features all football and no studio guests.

  12. you said 'surprising' i misunderstood thought you were implying that it wasnt a surprise

Ah, I see. No, I was implying that this was the phrase the media would most likely use. They'll be even more surprised than most of us as it appears half of them don't even know we're fucking second in the table by the way they go on.
