The Rangers V Motherwell Spfl Playoff Final 28/05/15
MelvinBragg replied to Yabba's Turd's topic in Club Chat
I watched the game at Ibrox on the big screen in Jack Daniels. Strangely I remember being calm until we scored. Then it felt as if we had something to lose. Which is ridiculous because we clearly had loads to lose if we were relegated. I also remember me and Frazzle saying right after full time that night that we'd give a kidney for the first goal on the Sunday... -
The Rangers V Motherwell Spfl Playoff Final 28/05/15

As a football fan, particularly a fan of a relatively small club, the joy in football is to be found in moments, or single games. This was to avoid relegation, sure. But does that mean I celebrated the moment any less? Nope. If anything, it's more important than a semi final win. It truly is a case of how your club will look going forward? Have a look at Dunfermline, Partick Thistle or Raith Rovers for evidence of that. I also agree that Barraclough was a big factor. Coming with no knowledge of Scottish football (remember his tongue in cheek comments about aiming to win the league) meant he seemed to go into the game without the preconceived notions of how this should go . Definitely didn't pay any heed to the 'back where we belong' chat from the Rangers minded side of the media. Van Der Gaag vs Dunfermline, Moult vs Accoes, the 2-1 vs Falkirk. Moments of relief, but also moments of joy. We don't get millions of those as Motherwell fans. It's alright to look back on them and smile... -
Frankly more alarmed that it turns out Danny Swanson is 33...

Good gesture by the club but not an offer I'll be taking up. I bought a season ticket for two reasons. I could afford to and I wanted to try and help make sure that there is a club to go back to when we are allowed back to watch football...

Have heard that Ilic is away. Also Rohan Ferguson, which leaves us with Carson and Morrison for goalkeeper. Possibly an indication of how tight the budget will be. Hartley, I would imagine is among the higher earners at the club so it may be a financial decision. Haven't heard anything regarding Dunne, but if rumours are true that we're signing Lamie from Livingston then possibly we'll be going with Gallagher, Donnelly and him as centre back options with Devine as back up... Chris Long is another interesting one. I'd imagine that League One or League Two in England would have been his preferred destination but given the uncertain financial situation there, clubs may be reluctant to take a chance. Again rumours of White from Inverness may be a factor.. Not going to worry too much about us running with a thin squad as others are likely to be in the same position. This may actually be a situation where being fan owned works in our favour as the Well Society with its direct debits has some regular revenue coming in...

I'm told that Manzinga and Hartley are definitely away and apparently Gillespie has indeed signed a pre-contract with Newcastle..

Where did anyone see about the new season tickets coming out? Having seen anything yet...

Looking forward to tomorrow's post match lap of honour...

I was also wondering this...

As others have stated, we're kind of down to bare bones at the moment so there's not a huge number of options team selection wise. I'd be going 352 Gillespie Gallagher Tait Hartley Grimshaw Campbell O'Hara Polworth Aarons Watt McIver If O'Hara isn't fit, I'd be tempted to play Maguire, Semple or Cornelius in the middle. Risky but no riskier than playing Grimshaw in there and having Mugabi in the back three. McIver is simply a better option than Long in my opinion, an opinion that I know is unpopular. Like I said, that would be my team but I fully expect 433 with Tait at left back...

Where did you see this? I have been looking for information on tickets for this one...

Looking at the season as a whole, of course it's not been terrible. Problem is momentum. If a couple of the wins we had in the first half of the season had come in the last month, it wouldn't feel quite so grim as it does at the minute. Going into March, we haven't won a home league game since the 7th December. In the five home league games since then we've scored two goals, one of them a penalty. The majority of fans don't go to away games, so most of our support have not seen us win in nearly three months and have hardly seen us score a goal. A fair bit of negativity is to be expected. We may well finish in the top six but if our form doesn't pick up, will anyone relish seeing those final five games against the better teams? Financially good for the club, it may be but dispiriting to watch...

He's been taking the back four in the pre-match warm up for a while now.. .

Weirdly in some respects, I thought we played better with 10 than 11. Having two forwards quite central (once Aarons got a bollocking from Watt and got closer to him) seemed to cause them problems. I would say they probably had more chances but we had slightly better chances. Given the situation thought Watt (and McIver, his replacement) did well. Thought Donnelly was OK at right back, given Gallagher was clearly nowhere near fit, Donnelly was probably the pick of the back four. Man of the match though was clearly O'Hara. Seemed always to be the one snuffing out any danger...

I'd bring McIver on for Hartley. Leaving Watt up top himself, the ball is going to keep coming back at us and it'll only be a matter of time...

He's 25 years of age...

Not at all. But the 'get it up ye' to fellow Motherwell fans is a bit much...

All the people crowing seem to think those of us criticising the team will be disappointed. Quite the opposite. But anyone who says that first half performance gave any cause for hope is lying...

Beat me to it. This kind of result has been coming...

Obviously it won't happen and I'm not advocating it but managers have been sacked for less...

It astounds me that there are still those who say Bowman wasn't good enough for us when he's scoring goals at league two level and we're gambling on guys with 20 career goals at the 24 in the lower leagues, from the Belgian lower leagues or Ross County reserves...

Motherwell 0 St Mirren However many goals we give them It depends on how you look at our season. Does Robinson getting us to where we are in the league without a striker/winger worthy of the name deserve credit? Or does he deserve criticism for leaving us with such a lack of options? I tend to give him credit and assume that none of our forwards were his first choice. I have not seen enough of Aarons or Watt but the rest of them are not good enough...

Yes, it happens and if you goalscorers in your team, you can turn the corner. Too often at the minute, we're relying on the opposition goalkeeper throwing one in or spilling one...
