  1. I'm sure someone said earlier in this thread that a plastic pitch is a non-starter due to the pitch not being flat. I'd imagine it would cost a ridiculous amount of money to flatten it out so I really don't see this ever happening at FP.

Undersoil heating buggered the pitch up, then the groundsman seemed to make a mess of a perfectly good pitch at the turn of the year by covering it for a month with the USH on. Had the latter not happened I'm sure the pitch would have been OK, by SPL standards anyway.

  2. Teams were spending outwith their means before the current financial climate downcrunch, and now we're seeing a lot of teams cut down their 1st team squads, including our own. The TV money was also cut during this period, and wads of our cash has been absorbed into the pitch. So I'm not surprised that we may struggle to hold onto the likes of Coke and Hately, but as fatcalf has said, they'll move on and we'll get someone else. They're hardly "once in a lifetime" talents, and our first choice midfield pairing of Lasley nad Jennings are already signed up.

  3. When we played at your place we were entertained by a couple of gangs beating the shit out of eachother with sticks. It was weird to have a westquarter game where the fighting wasn't on the pitch!

  4. We wont be paying any transfer fees, so even if the player is with a lower league club we won't be signing them.

Another useful rule of thumb is that if we know who the player is, MFC probably can't afford him.

  5. Hibs can keep their players and command bigger fees because they pay them a lot more than we do. They also have a history of taking players teeth as collateral, they are definitely the gumsiest club I've ever known.

  6. I'll be playing that pish boring rancid poofy 'sport' for Edinburgh South CC every Saturday till August <_>

I'll be doing the same for Westquarter. We played ESCC the other week, were you playing?

  7. I'm sure the pitch will be in excellent condition for the start of next season, just like it was for the start of this season. How it will look January is a different story.

  8. Big drop in wages but good signing-on fee, then the likelihood that he might well get a big, big move next Summer, or down to Everton and off to a Championship team where he might well only get a bit-part game every so often. The fact he continually mentions wanting to stay (unlike others still to sign) says a whole lot to me.

He could be crocked and out of the game in two seasons for all we know, so I don't see him taking a huge wage drop on the off chance that he'll get a bigger wage increase in a couple of years time. If he has a contrct for 8k per week he'll be seeing it out, or get sold on to a championship club where he'll make at least the same wage, and a big signing on fee.

  9. Seriously, the guy doesn't get the praise he deserves! He might run like Forrest Gump in quicksand, but the workrate is immense, and his aerial ability is excellent. Add quite a few goals to that list and he should be a prime candidate for our player of the season (have we had that yet?)

Maybe not quite an "unsung hero" but his contribution has been lost amongst the hype surrounding Juke and Ruddy.

  10. I have the feeling that if another club had our stadium and pitch we'd be constantly ripping the pish out of them for their shit stadium and pitch. Aye, Fir Park has character, but so does Pete Postlethwaite's face.

The who "soulless" and "legoland" tags get on my nerves as well. All empty stadiums are soulless, and any collection of four stands filled with rows of seats is going to look kind of lego-like. I don't want an architectural masterpiece (in motherwell!?!?) I just want something functional.

Our stadium is not fit for purpose anymore. The deomographic has changed, more people drive now, and there are more forms of entertainment to compete with, so we need a facility which is more accessible and comfortable. We also need to maximise our income, and find novel ways to bring money into the club. Fir Park limits us in this capacity, and we have the added issue of the place costing us a fortune just to keep it as it is.

How we go about doing this is another issue!

  11. Anyone know who I would be best to get in touch with a proposal of a commercial nature at Motherwell? Our business has some good innovative products that would certainly add revenue to the club and give us something that I believe no SPL Club would have..................

Is it one of those condom machines with the blow up sheep in it? Ear muffs? Either way, the club's phone number is on the website.

  12. As usual the only people to benefit from it are non season ticket holders. Thanks.

Also what happened to the promised range of initiatives that would be announced throughout the year for ST holders.... nothing as usual.

Wont work anyway, will be the same crowd with a lower income.

ST holders get in for cheaper and have a guaranteed seat. They don't need anything else.

  13. If our support was so critically important then maybe they shouldn't charge us so much to watch. The price is ridiculous, the catering is shite, and fans are treated like criminals.

It's a shame that attendances haven't rocketed since we've been on this great run, but wins wont make people's bosses pay them more or reduce the cost of their mortgage.

  14. Corrigan was an excellent player for us, and a fine servant. I don't think he was quick enough to get a sniff of international football though. The mistake in the semi-fnal was a sore one, but to define a Motherwell career which included over 250 starts by one error is a tad unfair.

I doubt that you'll find any "legend" who has gone through their entire career without making a mistake, and if that's the entry requirements of the MFC legends club then we won't have any!

  15. Is it fair to say that Craig Brown can juggle soap/soot/soup better than Jim Gannon?

I think we oculd scrape 4th this year, but I'm really looking forward to next season if Broony can hold onto the majority of out out of contract guys.

The best thing about this run is that we've all forgotten about the Scottish cup exit!

  16. Any time I see us on the wrong end of a ridiculous decision I always think of the Celtic game at Fir Park where Johan Mjällby knocked the ball about a yard into our net and the goal wasn't given. That always sticks out as one of the most ridiculous decisions given in our favour. Think we drew the game.

Our refs and linesmen are utter shite, have no consistency, and are ridiculously unfit. This isn't even their main job, so how can they be at their best (which is probably shite anyway)?

The best thing that could happen would be for the fat linesman to admit he made an arse of it. How they can say it was for a foul when the signals are different is just silly, and Forbes was 100% right in making sure the ball went in, imagine the abuse he would have got if it narrowly missed because he left it!
