  1. Was it Skacel that Hearts had an "option" to extend / buy - they took it up, he diodn't play any games for them and punted him on. If we really had this "option", that's what we'd be doing.

What is the point in these options if the player can just say no thanks lads?

  2. Thing is, this time last year we had a manager who knew of many gems in the English lower leagues who could be lured here due to his reputation and the promise of top flight football.

Craig Brown isn't really inspiring me so far with his targets (if rumours are to be believed) and I'm worried we'll have a squad of bottom 6 / top of first division journeymen. Would LOVE to be proved wrong though.

  3. Asked the big seedings / league set up brain on P&B whether or not the result of the Spanish cup final tonight would have an effect on whether we're seeded in the third round if we qualify. His reply:

Depends on results. Last season the cut-off was 7.826 / 7.633 but of course things could be different this year. If more non-seeded teams defeated seeded teams, you'd have a better chance. So at the moment it's basically too early to say the likelihood of Motherwell or Hibs being seeded in QR3.

Regarding False Light's point... if the cut-off came right down on 6.158, Hibs would be seeded and Motherwell unseeded by merit of league position.

  4. Totally.

Seems amateurish in the extreme and doesn't pain us in a very good light.

Has there been any word from the club on the reason why our manager is working without a contract? Apart from CB's constant reassurances that he's happy working without one?

  5. He lived three doors down from me during his entire Rangers career, his ex-wife is still there. I remember playing kirby and "accidently" threw the ball that little bit harder than it needed to be into his path on more than one occasion. Always got a few wee fancies and a bit of keepy up before returning the ball - absolute legend.

Heh, allrighty Steph. You forgot to mention hiding behind walls in case his good mate Richard Gough offered you a couple of Whams...

  6. We are not all raging. Some aren't bothered in the slightest with Slane potentially going. So what if it's hypocritical? Makes you sound silly? You lose all sense of a reasoned argument with any rival fans ie OF? Aye, we are all pro-Motherwell but get a grip with the "moral philosophers" gash. If a rule is good enough for Shrewsbury then it is good enough for us.

I'm not interested in reasoned argument with OF fans, I'm interested in MFC getting the best possible result out of any situation, and if that makes me hypocritical / sound silly I couldn't care less. And personally I don't think it does.

  7. I suppose in a way Shrewsbury have a similar moan to the one we are currently having with Paul Slane ie "promising" youngster "half inched" for next to nowt. In that respect we can't cry foul at Celtic and then give the big V to Shrewsbury IF (and that is a big if) they are due money. If they are it could be nippy.

We're not crying foul though, we're just fucking raging that a potential talent could be leaving for nothing. As a Well fan I think Paul Slane is a fucking penis if he bolts for Celtic to the detriment of our team, and I hope we come out of this Humphrey business smelling of roses as well. So what if it's hypocritical? We're Well fans, not moral philosophers, and are therefore concerned with how Motherwell are affected by these moves, not with how consistent we appear in our opinions.

  8. Just about every side in the SPL is only a kick-in-the-arse off extinction. There is no way any of them would vote anything through that resulted in a loss of income - be it more teams in the league (less OF games, less home games) or summer football (contentious I know, but I don't see TV companies paying more for this as some suggest - I wouldn't pay to watch Scandinavian games during our summer for a start). If anything I think we'd get less exposure with summer football.

Also, football is a winter sport and postponments are part and parcel of that. It's not like we live in Russia, or Scandinavia where it is impossible to get games played in the depths of winter, and there is no predicting when we'll get the bad weather. I've seen snow in April and tree splitting 10 degree sunshine in December.

Finally, when would we relay the pitch / do much needed groundskeeping work (I'm at the absolute limit of my knowledge here) if we were playing on it all summer?
