  1. I think we have a decent shot at 3rd place, but it's dependent on a lot of things for me.... How consistent Hibs are between now and the end of the season as they have to be favourites for 3rd with the team they have How injury free we stay - can't afford to lose anyone in the team to long term injuries Who we can recruit in January - proven striker a must, plus keep Ruddy and Big Yass I think we should easily finish in the top 6, with Hibs and United the mian contenders for 3rd. I think Hearts will pick up their poor start to compete with Aberdeen for the final top 6 place. Is it there for the taking?? No. In my eyes its Hibs to lose it, but if we perform well we have a chance.
  2. I here he's still forcing his way into the national team!!
  3. I was lucky enough to have met Betty and I got to know her reasonably well. I am truly shocked by! I only bumped into her at La Piazza in Carluke a fortnight ago where she was her usual self and seemed to be doing very well. I can only echo the comments made previously, Betty was a wonderful human being and is a great loss to the club. Her warmth and personality, so endearing and so natural, ensured she had a lasting effect on the people she met - me included. My thoughts are with her family
  4. At the end of the day thats exactly what it boils down to - and its his call and his alone to make. Does he stay and learn his trade and get first team exposure, or does he chase his dream and move to Celtic for more money and the hope of being a regular in a few years? The thing is, if he stays with us and things don't work out he might never get the chance to join Celtic again, and if that's his boyhood team, can he pass it up? I'd be dissappointed to see him go as I haven't been this excited about a young Well player since Faddy burst onto the scene.
  5. Aye doomed....but relegated?? With Hamilton, Falkirk, Kilmarnock and St Johnstone in the league we were tipped to be relegated?? Even in the summer I didn't see it being that bad!!
  6. I never quoted there....I was more a summarisation as it seems he is betting against us all the time. He said we'd get Well beaten of Dundee United, and I'm sure he tipped St Johnstone and Aberdeen to beat us, along with Inverness - and obviously Rangers. I don't really have anything against him as such, just I think he's very selective in what he see's in football. Yeah I'm sure my comments are a bit OTT, and I'm sure he would be a decent bloke if I ever met him, but I'm fed up of him thinking we are going to get beat MOST weeks as it suggests to me that in his eyes all good things we acheive are out of luck or over-acheivement. It's that attitude that takes away from the tremendous start Gannon has made to his Well career. He was already fighting a losing battle following in the shadow of media darling whore Mark McGhee. We have acheived what we have this season through re-invention from Gannon, explosive energy from our young players and hard work. And that in my eyes in a big two fingers to people like Dodds who see us as some sort of whipping boys keen to put our ability down at every opportunity!! Hugh Keevings is another one who loves to shoot us down. Coincidently, did he not predict we would finish bottom this season?? I'm sure he did in the Daily Record, but not sure. Can anyone confirm?
  7. ....and thats why EVERY week since the season started he's tipped us to be beaten?! Not even tipped for a draw. Did he not even say he thought Inverness would beat us???
  8. Is SteveDiggle got a stutter???
  9. Simply put he's a fud who clearly knows feck all about football... Anyone in the contry who have seen us play this year and Falkirk play this year would have us clearly installed as favourites to win this game, it being at The 'Ark and all. And by anyopne in the country I include new born babies, the blind, the dead, the mentally insane and EVEN Hugh Keevins!!!! Doods is just a silly wee bawsak....
  10. Fair enough.... We can't all be perfect?!
  11. Aye maybe. But what I ment is they never went on to have high profile careers as a player, apart from Lambert who I just don't rate as a manager. St John, McAllister and Coyle were all top international pedigree in my eyes. Maybe I was a bit harsh in my summarisation... I did say limited as they are all fledgling managers.
  12. So far the obvious names have bounced about, but what about the bad?? Ian St John anyone?? On talk sport the other day they were talking about good player don't make good managers ie Southgate, Keane, McGhee ( ), etc and all the best managers were pish players, Ferguson, Wenger, Mourinho, etc. Hows that apply to Well? Coyle can come under good manager and good player, but other than that the lesser Well players such as Davies, Martinez, Burley, etc have had most success. While a few of the better players, St John, Nijholt, McAllister, Lambert have had limited success if any.
  13. See a wee snippet in today's Tory bum-f*ckin Sun that Motherwell legend Mitchell Van der Gaag has taking his first steps into management with SC Maritimo in Portugal. He has been a youth coach at the club for a few years, and after Maritimo ditched their manager at the weekend, Van der Gaag has been drafted in to replace him. Couldn't find a link to this I'm afraid... And that got me thinking about all the former 'Well players to go on and manage at "bigger" clubs than 'Well, acheiving more than they did as a player. I know Van der Gaag played for Maritimo, but it's arguably a bigger club than us.... So what's your thoughts on former 'Well players as gaffers?? Who has done well, who has been shite??

    Signing #6

While I agree that they are similar types of players, I think Juciewicz has a far suppior pedigree. His touch has impressed me in the little I have seen of him so far, and he has more pace and workrate than Sutton for me. I wouldn't play the two of them together - unless in was part of a three man attack. That said, thought he was ok the other night until he took a knock. Hope he's ok and back in contention asap!
  15. I've got a £50 bet on with a HIVee supporting mate that the 'Well finish higher than them this season, so I hope we hope we fecking hump them!! But a tough one to call as Hibs are so inconsistent. Will pitch for 3-2 Well as I think this one has goals in it.
  16. I went for About the Same.... Reasons for that is the most exciting players for me at this early stage of the season are the young guys Hutchinson, Forbes, Slane, Saunders and McHugh. They were all in the squad last year so they have to be taken into account. What I think is diffrent is the management. While McGhee acheived great things with us, and had us playing some great football, Gannon is a diffrent calibre for me. He shows no fear and great optimisim in pitting the youth into the squad, and even if we hadn't lost all the players we did over the summer, i still think we would be seeing the young guys involved. As for the transfers in, they are all replacing players who have left and they can be compared (to a certain degree.) Here are my individual head to heads and what I think it means to the team.... Giles Coke vs Stepehn Hughes - Hughes was extremley impressive on his game, but was far too inconsistent. Early signs from big Coke shows he a competent player and has a real touch of class about him. Both on top form, I think I'd have Hughes...but over the season I think Coke has to be your man. BETTER John Ruddy vs Graeme Smith - Smith had his best season for 'Well last term in my eyes, and I was dissappointed to see him go especially when Fraser was lined up as his replacement. However, big Ruddy has shown glimpses that he is a quality keeper, but still a bit error prone - as was Buzz. SAME Yassin Moutaouakil vs Paul Quinn - This is the hardest one as we haven't seen anything of big Yass yet. Coach was a great servent to the club and was going to be hard to replace. But this guy comes with a great pedigree, and is probably our highest profiles signing in a long time. I believe he will prove to be a great addition, but it is far to early to tell. UNDECIDED Steve Jennings vs "Big Bad" Boab Malcolm - Most people would easily say better, but from what we have seen from Jennings so far he is slow, unfit and hard in the tackle - ring any bells?? But can he hit a free kick?! And is he versatile enough to cover at the back if needed?? For me, he is our most unispiring signing - but I hope I proved wrong. I much rather have Lasley playing to both of them. Controversial, but SAME Tom Hateley vs Brian McLean - hard to compare thes too as they are diffrent kind of players, but both have a degree of versatility. McLean was the one player I was truly gutted to see go last year as he has lots to offer if we can keep him fit. As for Marky's boy, he has really impressed me in his time here. Not too flash, keeps it simple and works hard. It's another tough one to call, and I would love to have both. The fact Hateley is younger and can cover more position, I think he offers more as a squad player than McLean. Hard to say, but BETTER Lukas Jutkiewicz vs David Clarkson - the only one that is a complete no brainer for me. While it is early days in Jutkiewicz time at 'Well, I don't think he can replace Clarky. He is too similar to Sutton from early signs and doesn't offer that workrate and spark that Clarky did. Without doubt WORSE Richie Humphreys vs ???? - Humphreys has come in to offer extra options on the flanks and it was a position that we badly needed competion in with only really O'Brien playing that position to last season. Was gonna mention Artur Krysiak, but he never played. Easy one...BETTER ???? vs Klimpl - Was gonna compare him with Jennings or Coke, but thought they were more like Malcolm and Hughes respectively. The Klimp will always have a bit of a cult status at The 'Ark, but he wasn't actually that goood. Yeah he offered a bit of bite in midfield, but so does Lasley IMO. He was a bombscare in defense, and I believe the arrival of Jennings and Coke make up for his absence from the team. SAME On a side note, the potential of the youngsters mentioned really excites me and while they are not the finished article I believe we will see so much from them. Why McGhee never gave any of them a run out I'll never know. I think they are the diffrence and if they continue from where they have started then I will be pushed to say we are much better now than we were last season. The only player from McGhee's two years in charge I would love to have back is Rosco. He was the diffrence between 3rd and 7th last season for me. And to echo what has been said already, I believe the team is definately more exciting than last year. Only time will tell if it's better!

    Signing #7

He is quality in Footie Manager! Have signed him a few times in the past and always does well! Hope the real life version of him stands up as well! Another good signing Jimbo - kudos!!
  18. Good to hear - especially since its not a two year special! Get the rest of the youngsters tied up now too - especially Slane on a long term deal so if Smellic want him we can demand crazy money - just like Hibs did with Brown, Fletcher, Whittakker, Murray, Thompson, etc, etc
  19. To quote Kevin Kegan: "I would love it if we beat them. Love it!" If you offered me 10th spot in the league right now, but we finish above Aberdeen I'd bite your hand off. As has been mentioned, these young guys will be fired up to prove McGhee was wrong to overlook them and I think/hope that will edge it for us. I don't really know what to make of McGhee's sheepies yet having only played Celtic and Hamilton - Celtic are my tips for the title and Hamilton face a relegation scrap with Falkirk in my eyes - so it's hard to judge. Would keep the same team as Saturday, maybe replace Hateley with Jennings or Lasley for some extra bite in the midfield and use Humphreys and Slane as impact players. Gannon will be well aware that a win on Sat will mean a huge deal to the fans, and for that reason I'm tipping us for a 2-1.
  20. I'd sign the no.22 from Flamuntari. When he came on he gave the team a bit of spark and his pace was incredible. Even Jogging he was faster than Reynolds, who is porbably the fastetst player in our team. And he took his goal well - only 18, surely worth a punt?? Could probably get him for much cheepness!!
  21. Don't know if it's been posted already, but Buzz has signed for Brighton. Click here! Interesting to read that he's gonna be a bench warmer behind a 35-year old!
  22. Bit dissappointed with this news, especially if we offered him a contract and he turned it down as we basically stood by him through the last two seasons with his injury problems. I felt this season was his time to shine with Coach looking certain to be off and doubts wether we will keep Reynolds. That said, it only depends if we offered him a contract or not. If not, then why not? Has the finger to be pointed at McGhee again?? If so, he really has went out his way to undo all the good work he done with us by leaving us so short staffed player wise!
  23. That was a great post Al, and while I have certainly been one of the fans getting into to a little bit of a panic, reading your post has added optimism to my opinions of the situation we are in just now. But your outlook on our future are dependent on two very crucial things: A) We get the right manager ...and B) We have a few youngsters at the club who can really step up If have faith that if we can tick the boxes for these two then we have the possibility of a very bright, fresh future...and that, as you say, is incredibly unique to this league, and exciting for all our fans. Lets just wait and see what happens.... ....Have a little faith! Mon the 'Well!!
  24. Agreed! Of all the names totued so far, this one excites me the most. Yeah Nihjolt and Gary Mac have links to the club which I think is always nice with the management team, and Sanchez and Gannon seem to be great motivators - but none are on the same scale as Boothroyd. The guy has actually acheived things in club football, and has a great reputation with the media for the way he conducts himself. Also, I know he has a great respect from the players that have worked under him and that, along with his knowledge of the English lower leagues, could lead to a few quality signings for us - ala Porter - should we get the job. Until now I haven't had a favourite, and thought any of four (Nijholt, Gary Mac, Gannon and Sanchez) would be a good appointment for us. Hoiwever, now I'm all for Boothroyd. If there is any truth to this story I'm excited at the prospect of his appointment, and would actually be dissappointed should he not get the job in favour of one of the other four. Boothroyd with Nijholt as his assistant would we a dream team for me!
  25. Posted this on In's and Out's. It's a done deal, with only formalities to tie up.
