Scottish Premiership Game 7: Aberdeen (H) Sunday 24/09/17 (12.15)
The African replied to Yabba's Turd's topic in Club Chat
Let's not get ahead of ourselves. This will be a tough game and we will need to be up for it. Our fitness levels seem good so " change for changes sake" would not seem to be necessary. I can see Dunne being brought back for Hammell and Grimshaw for Rose if he is injured. Anything else would be a surprise. Robinson can always freshen things up as the game goes on. He has shown that he has options on the bench and that he know how to, and is prepared, to use them. Hopefully we can keep the momentum going with another positive result. -

Cheers. So , even if he goes for nothing in the summer, the decision to keep Moult looks to be paying dividends. -

So what is a League Cup semi final worth to us, in cash terms? Anyone have an idea? -

Are Richard Gordon and Willie Miller still jibbering shite about how we should have let King Louis go to the Dons in the summer for half of what he is worth? -
R I P Paul. Worthy of our respect for a number of reasons. Firstly, as a former player, even if his time with us was not successful. Secondly, and probably most importantly, as a player who, for no other reason than his heritage, faced and dealt with the insidious racial abuse of the time with more dignity than it deserved. Thirdly, and only slightly with tongue in cheek, for scoring the two goals which helped deny Airdrieonions a cup final win, after they had knocked us out in the dodgiest of fashions in the semi final. Thoughts and prayers with his family and friends.

Would be great to get one over this mob, and more than a bit overdue. The fact that they are such favourites of our media would make it even sweeter. Having said that, they are no mugs and it will take a decent performance to get the win. Still think that the league points are more important in the longer term, but this match represents a free go to get to a semi final and the cash and kudos that would follow on from that. -
Scottish Premiership Game 6: Hibernian (A) Saturday 16/09/17
The African replied to Yabba's Turd's topic in Club Chat
At this stage of the season, I'd be more apply with another performance that proves we are on the right track. We have not had a complete ninety minutes yet and it will probably take our best performance of the season , so far, to take something from this fixture. Having said that, it would be great to keep building momentum by continuing our recent good run. -
Nice to see the young goalie keep a clean sheet. After the difficult time he had in Belfast, good that he could get back on the horse. Looks like he made a decent save or two as well.

Scottish Premiership Game 5: Kilmarnock (H) Saturday 09/09/17

Frear out with concussion, and I doubt that they will rush Hammell back into action, but otherwise seem to be healthy enough. Hopeful we can keep our good wee run going. Would love another clean sheet but any kind of win will do me. -

We should ignore the unnecessary sideshow that is "former player" related and concentrate on doing a professional job on this lot. -
Indeed. Young players will all make mistakes and they are generally magnified for a goalkeeper as they, more often than not, lead to a goal. I am sure nobody feels worse about it than the lad himself.
-
Please note the word "could". Before the transfer window was brought in, at least there was that option available. The fact that several managers thought that Stevie Woods was not only worth a game, but also a contract renewal is inexplicable.
-
At least in those days, when you brought in a dud, you could move them on quickly. How long were the likes of Crawford Baptie or Ally Graham on our books. The introduction of the transfer window screwed that option.
-
A shame that the young lads are out, but hopefully they have enjoyed and learned from the experience. That is what this tournament is all about for a club like ours..
-
Only in that both Smith and Wright left Raith at around the same time. Wright going to Dundee suggests that there wasn't a huge difference in cost at the time, though even then, I was fairly sure who the better player was.
-
The Ben Heneghan deal is Tommy McLeanesque. He was quite astute at bringing in players for small fees, getting decent performances from them and then convincing other clubs to buy them for decent money. Smudger Smith comes to mind - couldn't believe it when Dunfermline stumped up £60K for him.
-
Hopefully the guys coming in will both add something to the squad. I am certainly happy to have some more experience at centre half, even if I am not generally a fan of loan signings. I do think that we did have to sell someone and Heneghan was probably at the height of his value. The club seemed to hang on for a bid that met their valuation, which also is nice to see. There is no reason why the club cannot now sit down with Moult and his representatives and work out a deal which is good for both sides. If he stays healthy, he is away next year anyway. Why not get paid an extra grand a week and just concentrate on his football?
-
Cheers. Makes sense, and good to know that I was referencing a true classic.
-
Hopefully we have a plan involving a half decent replacement, if we are to be emptied by any offer for Heneghan. When we thought we might get a few more miles out of McManus and Heneghan's form was doubtful, I was all for letting him move on. Now McManus is done and Heneghan has looked better, we need to consider where his departure will leave the squad, as well as the cash we might bring in.
-
1957, so a few years before my time as well. Have seen the film though and it was a decent story, well told. The use of 'Hardy Kruger" as a euphemism for " the one that got away" is not my invention. I saw someone else use it, quite liked it, and decided that imitation was the sincerest form of flattery. I can't remember who it was, but it may have been Delboy in "Only Fools and Horses".
-
Scarcely a "Hardy Kruger" then. Just out of our price range.

Scottish Premiership Game 3: Ross County (H) Saturday 19/08/17
The African replied to Andy_P's topic in Club Chat
Hoping we an get the ball rolling with the league campaign. Three losses from the first three games would not be a good look. -
Selling Cadden now would be a high risk strategy. He is a key player for us and would be extremely difficult to replace. At twenty, he is only going to improve and he has two years left on his contract.
-
Good luck to Stephen McManus. All things onsidered, he should be remembered for having been a decent player for us. His retirement does leave a bit of a gap in defence, though his change of role should hopefully free up some cash fore an experienced replacement. You would assume that this has not come out of the blue to Robinson and co, and that some thought and planning has already gone into a replacement. We should hope to have someone in sooner than later.
